  • Or you could actually earn money from airport parking: https://www.carhood.com.au

    • Curious as to see how this can impact your insurance cover and premium. Or does car hood purchase additional cover in your behalf?

      • Yes. Carhood is fully insured on your behalf.

    • Is there a minimum days required to park there? Can I park there for say 4 days and then pick it up?

      • 8 hours is the minimum time you can park there.
The answer to this, and other questions are here: https://www.carhood.com.au/faq

        • So that means I can park there for only one day and pick up the next? For free and washed?

        • @wildstone: That's what the offer is. Your car just might have a few extra km's you weren't counting on. :-)

  • Thanks so much for sharing. Going to NZ for a week soon so this is good. Works out cheaper than the other car parking services offered near the airport.

  • Thanks for this! Luckily haven't booked booking for the trip late November yet!

Would be even cheaper to book the non-flexible option (just that you can't change date after booking).

    • +1

      Yeah, 7 days
      $48 Long term car park
      $50 Jetaway
      $57.50 Busy Beaver

The only bugga with the long term carpark is if you're outside the 1 hour grace period of your entry time or 1 hour later then your proposed exit, you get charged max rates. so you should set your exit time to the very end of the day to allow for delays.

      • So you can't just put that you'll be there at 1am when setting up parking then show up a 9am or whenever?

        • Nope.

          1. Arrival and Exit at the Car Park
Melbourne Airport does not issue tickets for online bookings.
When you arrive at the appropriate Melbourne Airport car park, you must insert the same credit card used for your booking (or the credit card nominated at the time of booking) into the barrier.
When exiting the car park, you must use the same credit card as you used upon entry.
If you use the incorrect credit card either upon arrival or exit, you will be charged the standard tariff car park rates for that relevant car park and you will not be entitled to a refund or credit on those charges. Click here for Melbourne Airport’s standard tariff car park rates.
There is a 1 hour grace period for entry either side of your booked entry time. If you arrive outside of this entry grace period you will be charged for the length of your stay at Melbourne Airport's standard tariff car park rates (NB these rates may vary from the rates quoted via the online booking system) and you will not be entitled to a refund or credit on those charges. Click here for Melbourne Airport’s standard tariff car park rates.
        • @supabrudda: This just come to my attention and I've just checked back on all my previous bookings.

I've always put very early time (says 6AM) then enter around 8:30AM (out of the entry grace period - always late entry, not early), so far no extra charge has occurred to me.

Though if it's in T&C then I'd be a bit worried about doing this.

        • @huythanhv2:
Yeah I rang them about the exit times (& leaving early) and they were cagey about it. I kept pushing for an answer & eventually they said that I wouldn't be charged any more for doing that.

It's good to hear you had success with the late entry. I'll have to try that (although a 2 hour window before last checkin is usually more then enough).

I wondered how they could justify charging you more for parking less. Maybe they put the clause in there to scare people into paying more for the "flexible" parking option. I might lodge a complaint with the ACCC (since it's a federal jurisdiction).

Since they seem to charge by the week, So I just round the exit date up to make a full week.

        • @supabrudda: Good to hear that they actually said they are not charging extra for arriving late. Totally agree on it doesn't make sense to get charged more for parking less.

  • Thanks, via 'Manage my booking' I cancelled the booking I made earlier today with the JETSTAR promo code (no fees to cancel) then used the better KOGAN code - saved an extra $9.45.

  • No sydney option :(

  • Thank you!

  • Op you forgot to mention the mandatory 2% credit card surcharge (you need your credit card to swipe upon entry/exit) on top.
If you use a different CC at each end (e.g. you lose your card, forgot which one you used) Or if you use a different credit card to the one you booked with, you also get charged full rates.

The Long Term carpark can be cheap if parking 1-4wks, but it's designed to trap people who don't strickly follow the rules.

    • If you register on the website, there's no CC fee. I've just made two bookings and book once every fortnight and have never been charged a CC fee.

    • I never registered account with them, but booked twice now through their website (both times using AMEX) and never got charged CC fee.

I already booked my December trip (non-flexible cheapo option) using JETSTAR code so can't use this offer - but still great post - thanks OP!

      • Is the JETSTAR cheaper?

        • No - this one is better. It's just that I can't cancel my existing booking as I've selected non-flexible option to save most money.

This is good deal - just be careful around satisfying T&Cs as per previous posts:
          (1) Use the same card to book, enter and leave the car park;
          (2) arrive within 1hr on either side of specified time;
          (3) book exit time/date later than you require in case any plane delays. Just try different dates and times until you find the point where price is still the same for the latest exit time.

  • This only seems to apply to off-airport parking. Tried my two dates and none of the local "at terminal" parking options (short term, long term, valet or business) came up.

  • Thanks!

    Drive up price: $149
    Online Quote: $101.50
    After Kogan code: $81.20

and for those with an AMEX card and has registered for the Small Shop Promo, you get $10 back for spending $20 at Melbourne Airport (Parking included). It was a nice surprise. :)

    • Are you serious that Melb Airport is part of Shop Small? Isn't it a bit too big for that?

    • ya are you sure we get $10 back from the amex small shop promo? I can't find that information from the amex promotion site
