    • Cheap but no Netflix :(

      • Strange cause both of mine do??

        • New ones don't. Basically if you see one with Miracast, it doesn't have Netflix.

One of mine does, one is an older non-wifi one without Netflix

Club Catch is evil. It will lead you to a life of excess and hoarding as your ozbargainer nature will drive you to purchase countless useless items that you will buy due to fulfilling the hole in your soul that can only be filled by getting a bargain and to recoup the membership fees. As space runs out in your home, which was once filled with precious memories of your family, now a junkyard of toilet coffeemugs, chromecasts, dyson vacuums, ssds and the like. Precious moments basking in the radiance that is your young son/daughters smile now a distant memory with all the time spent on OZB checking for bargains. Please. We at OZB anonymous welcome you.

    • +6

      Also membership is $20 off

    • +3

couldn't agree more, just a side note, COTD is mostly junk and I don't think they sell SSD competitively.

      • +1

I bought a Samsung 830 from there for $180 quite a few years ago, other places were wanting $230+ to even come close to the performance of the 830.

    • +2

By that logic, OzB is also evil.

      • didn't club catch trial used to be 14 days? unless I'm reading wrong its now down to 7 days only

        • Actually use to be 30 days.

        • @sneakydean: 30 days then 14 days then 7 days then back to 30 days….right before their "birthday" when it dropped down to 7 days.

oh well. i have enough email accounts and credit/debit cards to start more trials when necessary

for goodness sake, i cant even access the site. it crashed every 5 minutes. is anyone facing the same problem like me or is it just because i got a really slow internet?

    • +1

No.. they really do have some shit slow servers. Mainly because they arent probably using the right Content Delivery Networks (CDN's) to cache the web objects and save the real servers for the transactions.

      • +1

        Happening to me too :(

(profanity) still can't place my order. Think the website only designed for 10 people viewing at a time…

  • What does everyone think about the Black & Decker range? They seem ridiculously cheap!

    https://www.catchoftheday.com.au/brand/black-decker/

    • +2

I have had the 18v matrix drill for a year or so and love it, quite strong and sturdy. Not sure how the 10.8v one they have atm would compare - it looks the same. Last month COTD had 60% and with my club catch trial I bought another 18v drill (mainly for the batteries) and the 650w planer. The drill build quality is not as good as the matrix drill, its quite a bit smaller and lighter - which has been handy in some tight spots.

Something about the colour scheme of the planer really makes it look like a cheap toy - I was surprised how big it is. The front of the base plate, in front of the cutters, is nice machined aluminium, but the trailing part is thinner folded steel, don't know if it will really matter in use. It has a nice indexed turn handle for adjusting the depth of cut. So far I have only used it to shave a few mm off the end of an old hardwood 6x2 joist - it did it easily, very hard timber but not full width cut.

If you're just an occasional user like myself I'd say go for it.

      • Thank you, I purchased most of the tools there. The price seems worth it with your feedback.

    • +3

Black & Decker was one of the top sellers and good products over in UK before I left is 2002, not sure about these days though.
I used to have some of their stuff.

    • On this topic, how much is shipping for the planer if someone with catch club could please check :)

      • +1

I'm in catch club, and when I put every tool, it showed $9.95 discount for shipping.

So I assume, everything is capped to $9.95 per order or free if catch club above $50.

        • Thanks mate!

    • +3

Another big fan of Black and Decker. Especially the Matrix drill system and their other compatible 18v lithium range. I bought the Matrix 6 piece pack (drill, air inflator, detail sander, jigsaw, oscillating tool, 2 x 1.5Ah batteries, charger) a couple of years ago on special and have found it perfect for home handyman use in so many different situations. I added the trim saw, impact drill, and router attachments when they were on special $25 each. I then got a second 6 piece pack for a steal at $120 from COTD (for the 2nd skin and extra 2 x batteries mainly as I use the Matrix with impact attachment as a rattle gun for changing wheels at the race track). I then added the recent Masters buy 1 get one free B&D 18v Hedge trimmer and air blower for $190 which also come with a 2.0Ah battery and charger each. I also got the compatible 18v led light skin from Amazon. The batteries are all interchangeable so now I have 6 x batteries, 4 x chargers, 2 x drill bodies, 1 x hedge trimmer, 1 x air blower, 1 x torch and a stack of matrix attachments. If there was one complaint, its that the air blower isn't a 2 speed so it is either on full ball, or off. Having a half speed would have been handy.

I have heard for heavy use though, they won't hold up, so its better to go with a more expensive brand.

      • Awesome, thanks for your input. It's pretty much for home use and DYI projects, seems perfect for the price.

  • +2

That Club Catch nonsense is really putting me off COTD these days. It is not the OP's fault, but it seems the majority of these deals require membership.

    • +1

Agreed, just make COTD a members only site. Everything that's at a reasonable price requires membership. For those not willing to fork out the $70 (currently $50) membership fee, all the rest is junk or close to retail pricing once shipping is factored in.

Tempting but I dont have the time at work to look through all the categories ehh

Edit.. eh spent an hour on the site and managed to spend $111.97 of 'I dunno why I needed then' worth lol

    • i think that every time they have these massive % off days.
then i relapse and spend a few hours trawling through everything lol.

so spent $200+ in all >_<

  • +2

It used to be that to qualify for club catch free shipping youi only needed $50 at full price in your cart.

For example $25 of '50% off' items would qualify for free shipping.

However, my cart just now did not give the free shipping until I had $50+ at the discounted price. Even though they were mostly 70% off items. Drat. There goes another advantage of the CotD site. Gone now it seems in a site software revision perhaps. CotD advantages are eroding.

    • +4

Credit to them though, I placed an order 2 days ago before the sale and when this sale came on I would have saved over $100.

As my heart sank, I looked at my order history, clicked on cancel order. They refunded me the money in 3 minutes. I put the same order again, saving the $100, plus the saving from Visa checkout.

I think the cancel order functionality, even after 2 days is amazing! I know other sites sort of have this, but to be able to click the button and do it yourself with such a fast refund turnaround, I think that's pretty good. One good thing about take a few days to get your order sorted.

    • +1

I've just placed an order, had $20 store credit. Total came to just under $57, took store credit off, got free delivery and $10 credit with visa checkout. So, paid just under $27

  • Question bargainers.

Has anyone tried claiming GST TRS Refund from stuff bought from COTD?

Will the papered receipt COTD sends be enough to show to the immigration?

    Thanks.

    • +1

I've noticed this question pops up a lot on OzB … as long as it has is an Australia store with GST clearly marked on the invoice it will be acceptable (if its over $1k you must have your name on the invoice - but all online stores generally place your name on the invoice).
Ie - no DWI camera receipts from Hong Kong.

      • Thanks for the reply Ezza.

Question, how do they validate the authenticity of the receipt then? Is there a way for them to validate that a receipt is genuine or not? I have no plans to make illegal receipts or what, but I just thought, people can just randomly print a receipt and put an ABN and put a GST calculation there.

Also another question, assuming I only have one receipt right now, I can still claim refund for part of the receipt meaning, I'm only claiming 8 GST from the 10 of the items I bought from the store. Is this possible?

Has anyone tried using the TRS App for smartphones? How do people factor in there the discount and stuff? augh so confusing.

        Thanks for your time again.

        • I'm not sure how they validate if its real or not.. but they do stamp the reciept then ask for a credit card to refund to. Your items needs to be $300+ (if claiming multiple item under $300 they need to add up to $300 or over).

          See this link - https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Ente/Tour/Are-you-a-traveller
There is mention of an app

  • damn register with new email, club trial, then the watch i wanted to buy is sold out.

  • Dunno if others are having this trouble, but my $40 store credit is missing from my account. I've emailed them about this but their sla is 7 days. And the sale lasts only till Friday noon. They don't even have a phone number ffs.

    Any ideas?

  • Hmm so I just signed up to cotd (hope someone gets the referral cash!) and then signed up to club catch. I have 6 items in my cart totalling $150… but it is charging me 9.99 for postage? Isn't it supposed to be free or there a code I need to use?

    • try a refresh of the browser page so it picks up the new data

  • Does everyone already receive your order? This time processing seems really slow… my order still under processing.. it has been a week…..
