    Thanks op.

Noob question - can I somehow set this up at my modem/router level without having to install individual windows/android clients?

    • +6

      No problems.
If you have a dd-wrt or tomato router you can configure system wide VPN for all connected devices.

    • What brand/model router/modem do you have?

But mostly likely you can't, usually only highend/business units tend to offer builtin VPN client.
As @epicttiimm said it does come with the tomato & dd-wrt firmware, but you'd have to install that yourself and I'm guessing you haven't done that (since you ask that question:-).

      • Usually that would require an ipsec tunnel. I cant seem to recall any offering pptp client connectivity, that said Ive never looked for it.

  • I can't access this site at work and was wondering if they have an exit node in Russia?

Good but no OpenVPN kills it for me.

free is good, but it is a whole lot different to what you get in the paid service.

    • +1

Very true. I have changed the title to reflect the fact that their paid tiers are discounted at the moment as well.

      • I have never used a vpn, can you be honest and say what you use it for (torrent?), thats all I can think I would want one for (and maybe I have it all wrong and it is useless for that)

I rarely use one but it's necessary in some countries to visit some websites we take for granted (e.g. Google and Facebook in China, but I don't know if this one has been tested in China).

For non-privacy/non-censorship related issues, your everyday Australian Joe uses a VPN simply for geolocation circumvention.

Up until a few years ago a lot of popular websites didn't use secured https so using public WiFi meant potentially exposing oneself. Though even using a VPN means you're trusting the VPN provider. It's important to note that using a commercial VPN service guards your "privacy" (from prying eyes) but doesn't guarantee "anonymity". A VPN normally obeys the laws of the country in which it operates - as a lulzsec hacker found out when using UK-based HideMyAss.

        • @peterpeterpumpkin:
          thanks Peter.

  • VPN kills it for me. Ur bandwidth speed is linked to the links speed for the VPN.. Much rather DNS ghost

no P2P allowed on the free trial =(

    • PPTP only on the free account.

    • where does it say that.

It does say light use only though and also spped is slower than the paid version (how much slower I do not know)

    In FAQs

"we do not keep logs with our users’ activity more than 7 days. "

    So they DO keep logs.

PureVPN is a better service than the paid services of this provider by the looks of things and cheaper slightly..

    • I have used both and can confirm that PureVPN's performance is far superior for me. Also, had problems with dropouts on ibVPN and the 'killswitch' failed for me the other day. That was the last straw.

With my PIA VPN I cant post anything on Ozbargains.
Is there a easy fix for this?

    • Use your real IP.

      • +3

Why would I want to use my real IP? I am paying money to hide it…

    • Try another server, some are blocked by OZB.

  • I used these guys until earlier tis year. I can't say I got anywhere near the speed you're quoting (less them 10mbs, ave 2-5mbs on 100mbs cable). I never had issues with conecting to the servers & the client was easy to use.

    • +1

that will be full speed then for my crappy adsl2

  • If you try to signup while being connected to a VPN server in Japan or Netherlands it will refuse. I tried few other countries and the same result.

I'm now connected to a kiwi server and all is good. I assume this trail is targeted to users in AU & NZ.

    • The website says that they don't allow signups from VPNs.

  • How to get it for free? I click on link but it still $4.84/month :(

  • Thought this would allow me to access a US website that is restricted to Australia location IPs, but even when connected to the VPN, it didn't work. Any thoughts?

    • Flush DNS and power cycle all devices. Clear cache and cookies or try a different browser.

    Noob question,

So this only for certain devices - laptop/tablet (not Surface rt?) therefore can't use (as no app) for gaming console/Apple TV/WD TV ?

Plus only one connection means I can watch Netflix USA on iPad with one account but then need another account if someone else in the house wants to watch Hulu on their laptop ?

  • watch ibVPN's blog for sales every few months. i would not be surprised if you emailed them a request, they might give you a lower annual rate. i have not tried PIA, but i can't imagine it possibly being any better than ibVPN.

  • do you know when this deal will expire?
    If have few other questions
    Q)
    a) with the vpn, does that allow me to watch content from other than Australian Netflix?
    b) what region will it allow me to watch?

  • It says, "The FREE Unlimited VPN package is not (yet) available in your location. Thank you for understanding." ?

    • Same for me :(

  • Just a heads up, I signed up with these guys a few years ago & let my a/c expire abiut 12mths ago. suddenly I've started getting spam sent to the email address i created especially for them ibvpn@<mydomain> they're claiming no data breach & soemoen has guessed it. I'm calling BS & they've had their email address list exported. the spammers didn't get my name, just the email address. (emails are addressed to "Dear ibvpn@<mydomain>…click here…>
