That's like RRP for any asian grocer.

    • +1

Yup. Buy it by the box full (24) for those emergencies!

    • -1

Asian grocers sell them in 32 or 40 packs.

When you can buy 6 of these and get it at this price, its a bargain.

Otherwise I might as well go complaining in all the other deals here that you can get a better deal if you buy 50x of a certain item.

      • you can buy singles at most asian stores too m8

        • Couple of points
          - would love to support these small shops but I don't get to them so often. Woolies are everywhere incl down the road from my place

          • I can use a credit card with no surcharge/minimum amount and no frowns in some cases of these small stores (I love the stores that pretend my Amex doesn't work, when I take control of the machine to show em how its done, they magically put it through no probs)

          • I get FF points with Everyday Rewards as well as my CC

But if the asian shops are cheaper and are convenient for you, go for it

          • +7

@sash213: Couple of reasons why i go to small shops like those asian groceries.
            - would love to support Woolies, but it just doesn't feel the same.

            • I can use the rest of my silver coins to buy something cool.

            • I get a funky smell in every aisle.

            • I get stuck in traffic INSIDE the shop due to the 90cm space in every asile

            • I also get street credit from the shop owner cause he knows I always come by on fridays to buy those asian noodles with high contents of MSG called Mi Goreng.

            • I get random stares cause i'm hella white and albino.

  • Looks like we got an Indomie battle on our hands. But I think credit to Coles for laying the first blow, had already bought a couple of packs last week, not the healthiest snack around.
You are right though, competition & all buyers win.

  • We're all winners if it means that we're getting the noodles with real flavour at a better price - just don't base your entire diet on this product kids!

  • Nom nom nom. Bought some at Coles but haven't the gall to open them yet in case they are a delicious snack and I get addicted.
Hopefully someone will find a bargain gym membership deal to offset all the damage done by these naughty noodles. :D

    • They are a delicious snack. You WILL get addicted. Just FYI.

      • +1

1 pack on it's own is never enough. I always need to eat 2 packs in one go. Hence why I buy these things by the boxful.

        • Yes, same here.

          • +1

@nulled: me too and because they are so cheap!

            • +2

              @colaman: I have 3 at a time… am i a pig? :)

              • +1

@Iggsy81: No, you are just hungry!

I have 2 myself on average, time to stock up at Woolies!

If I spend $30 or more, I get a 4c off fuel voucher to boot!

                Win win! :)

    • You're screwed once you try them :P They are so tasty. I have to NOT buy them to stop myself getting fat and running up my cholesterol levels lol.

Protip - use only a little of the palm oil or none at all - that helps a little.

      • +1

Only a little ?, i have to cut open the oil sachet after pouring it into a bowl to lick up the remaining goodness.

The powder and soy sauce is delish as well.

  • -1

    just run it off!

  • Great deal.

Don't forget, you can buy 10 or 20 or whatever you like and you will get the same discount. You don't have to buy it in lots of 6, its just a minimum of 6.

  • +5

When i buy mi goreng in a box from the asian groceries

Not only do i eat the noodles

    I eat the box.

  • +3

i reckon we need to change ozbargain 's name to noodle bargain :P www.noodlebargain.com.au lol

  • Melbourne Springvale has Migoreng every now and then where you buy a box of 40 for around 8 - 10 bucks

Sydney Cabramatta is the same. Actually any Asian Grocery does it for that price. Glen waverley has them for around 11 bucks for a box of 40.

Coles and Other places which sell Migoreng is not cheap

  • remember to add the chilli satchel when your cooling it !!!!!!

  • it actually makes me wonder why these noodles are so cheap. What did they actually put in it? Is Coles/Woolies losing money on these to lure customers into their stores?

    • it's just that the cost of production in indonesia (and most SE-Asian countries) are really low. Probably is, on my estimation, about a tenth (10%) of the production cost in Australia.

It's the same reason why most companies now choose to relocate production to China and SE-asia, cos they can produce products at a lower price, yet sell you products at a rip-off price.
(exception being indomie, which is sold cheaply)(And even cheaper if you but them in indo)

  • I love these noodles, got hooked last year then Coles has them marked down for 20c a single packet where I live last year (before I joined this site). Bought about 50 packets (as much as I could fit in my hand basket) was eating them everyday. Then I bought a couple of packs earlier this year and either I got a bad batch or they changed the type of noodles because when I boiled them up and mixed in the seasonings, the noodles went all mush. I hope they haven't changed them. I really really really like these noodles.

  • +2

This noodle shouldn't be that expensive from the start. From where it come from, it is only cost around 20cent back there, if you buy it retail. If you buy it in quantity, it is cheaper again.
Imagine the quantity of order that Coles and Wollies make. Maybe for the whole Australia, 10 million boxes weekly during this special?

This instant noodle are being made in a super massive factories, and the factory are supplying this product for the whole country (of couple hundred million population) daily, plus exporting in to the world.
Back there, some people can only afford to eat this as their main food (because rice is more expensive, and not talking about veggies or meat yet). This means that the local market of this noodle is gigantic, because it is actually consumed by even the people that cannot afford to eat something else.
You'll be surprise on how many the factories can produce in a day. The beauty of economics of scale…

  • Hi,

I've been having this since childhood. It surprised me big time that it's so well liked by so many Australians + non-Indonesian Asians.

By the way, when we were young (as in primary school young), we used to eat this thing uncooked. So we opened the packet, poured the oil, mixed in the seasoning, crushed the noodle, then mixed them all and just snack on them. Not exactly healthy, of course, but some of us (me and friends) still do so once in a while for old times sake =)

  • Box 40 packs (8x5's) = $8-10bucks at asian suburbs such as Richmond, Box Hill, Preston, Footscray, Springvale and St Albans :)

this price really failed…caught my eyes as well when i walked pass

  • Thank GOD we dont have the DIET POLICE in this thread yet like the last one, along with the scores of ppl who said its no bargain cos if u get 40 at an asian grocer its about the same.. These noodle deals HAVE been bargains for sure !

    • +1

I thought the same too, that you can't compare these Coles/Woolie deals with one which you have to buy 40 packs at the Asian grocer.

BUT I went to my local Asian grocer few days back and they sell them in loose packs for 25cents each. You don't even have to buy 6 to get a cheaper deal than this. :)

      • what i said earlier. You can get most brands of noodles singly at most asian stores too.

        Noodle Activist since 2010 !!!

        • Having said that, the asian stores are not always easy or convenient to go too, especially if you are heading there for mainly one product. Coles/Woolies of course are everywhere and very simple for people to get to. The convenience factor is important i think.

P.S. - Does anyone know of any of these cheap asian places in Brisbane? : )

          • @Iggsy81: Ah yes, fair point. Good thing there's an Asian grocer almost next to my local Woolies.

  • Mi Goreng emang paling enak!!! Hence BIG positive from me

  • -1

As many people have mentioned, you can get these for roughly 30c each from any decent Asian grocery as RRP..

In Lemon Grove shopping centre in Chatswood NSW, you can get 7 packets of Shin Ramyun for $2 (IMO a much better instant noodle brand) I think its a bigger packet as well.

    • is this the red coloured packet ?

      • yep. the packets are awful, get the cup ones.

  • This is an awesome deal and you can mix-n-match with the six flavours that Woolies stock. No 30/40 pk of one flavour can beat that!

  • With my 5% discount card, these are 1.881$ per 6 :D, or 0.3135 each!! muahahahah

    • How did you get a discount card for woolies?

      • 5% is the staff discount card for Woolworths Ltd employees

        • +3

im asian so i get discount.

rock up to the asian grocery.

          do those weird hand signals.

nod ur head up. show him/her the box.

          do abit of a shuffle.

lay $10 bux on the counter.

          then do the peace sign.

          shuffle home.

get high contents of MSG into your system. = priceless

          • +1

@Lexsus: I tried this today but it did not work. The store owner started yelling at me in Chinese and then kicked me out of the store.

            • +2

@[Deactivated]: are you white? (no offence)

            • @[Deactivated]: you missed the nod while entering :D

              • @JOCKz: I stepped into an Asian grocery shop today. These noodlies were priced 50c per pack. Rip. But it was so hot that I bought a can of coke zero for $2. Honestly I think the price went up when the could see the sweat dripping off my nose. Overall, not a success.

                • +1

@sparkles: um what asian grocery did you go to?

                  obviously missed the nod thingo.

have you noticed they dont have price tags.

and its always a different price every day.

                  hahaha

                  • @Lexsus: I think those Asian stores should start showing price tag, I hate it when MOST of the items with no price tag!!!!

  • $9.50 a box (40 pack / can mixed flavo') at glenferrie INDOMART / LAGUNA Asian Market
Laguna @ City even offer 10% discount /box

    • How about in Brisbane? Any stores/markets that sells as cheap as that?
