Airbnb 10% off Bookings Made before 31 Dec, 2015 (for Stay until Jan 31, 2016)

472
CITIHK552415

After enjoying the 20% discount code posted by easternculture, I was looking for another deal for a short Airbnb stay during the New Year. Thanks to shaiguy's comments in easternculture's earlier post, I was able to use the 10% discount code for our new booking (saved me $72, every little bit helps :). This does NOT need to be your first Airbnb booking.

Booking Period: Now until Dec 31, 2015
Stay Period: Now until Jan 31, 2016
Code can only be used once per user

I have an Australian Airbnb account but made the booking via the Airbnb HK site, just to be sure I get the discount (however I am not certain whether this is absolutely necessary), and used the coupon code "CITIHK552415" which OP "Vincent" kindly posted. The transaction was in AUD.

More info can be found here:
citibank airbnb promotion

Good luck, be safe and enjoy the holiday festivities!

Edit: To connect to a Hong Kong VPN (Thanks to shez1212):
Use www.zenvpn.net or http://www.proxy-listen.de/Proxy/Proxyliste.html
(I used FreedomVPN myself)

  • Optus customers prepaid/postpaid and internet or homephone get 50 dollars off airbnb too, looks like a generic code you get

    • +2

I think the Optus deal is for users who have never completed a booking on Airbnb (i.e. first booking only)

      • +1

very difficult to create a new email address.

        • +4

Aren't reviews and verifications a major part of how AirBnb functions?

        • +3

          @Makoto

You need to verify your identity before making a booking with airbnb. This involves uploading a digital photo of government issued photo ID. Not as simple as a new email address!

        • @ash2000: Really? I'm pretty sure when I just booked on Airbnb it asked if I wanted to use my facebook profile so I did.

        • @siraitken:

Really? I'm pretty sure when I just booked on Airbnb it asked if I wanted to use my facebook profile so I did.

One is now required to verify their ID by both 'physical' means (phone number, email address, govt. ID) and an 'online presence' (FaceBook, Google, or by submitting a video).

  • 10% off Coupon Code:
CITIHK + first 6 digits of your Citibank Credit Card (e.g. CITIHK123456)

So, does this mean you need a Citybank credit card?

As your code has already been used, surely one would need a another Citybank card's first 6 digits?

Or do you think that their system does not check?

    • +1

Credit card's first 6 digits are not unique. You'll find that the first 4 are the same across the same issuer + bank, more or less

      • +1

For completeness, the first 6 numbers represent the BIN (Bank Identification Number), i.e. the number that can be used to identify the issuing bank of the card. Banks can have many BINs.

Worked in CC processing and used a tool to look up any card issuer from the first 6 digits (Visa or Mastercard).

    • The original post on hotelpromobook.com has been there since July 2015, and I was able to book/confirm the booking last night with the same code. Hence sharing it with everyone (in the lack of a better deal at the moment).

I don't think the first 6 digits are that unique…

Anyway I would have loved to test it with another Airbnb account, but they are painful to set up and be verified…

  • Does Airbnb have promos for first time users like uber?

  • If your a new customer, dont forget to use the airbnb referral wiki for $28 off your next booking

Also don't forget the Optus $50 voucher for new SIM card
      Try OPTUS_EEJZY code

      • Can I stack codes?

        • Not sure,
          Try it.

If you can't just buy a new $2 prepaid sim card and register for $2 daily plan. It's great if you're going to travel, 500 MB per day is sufficient enough for GPS navigation (Here/ Google Maps) if you want to travel to unknown area (like me last week when I was in SYD)

Anyway if you can't , you can ask Alistar the Optus Mod in Optus Forum to generate you a code.

has this worked for anyone besides the OP? i have tried on two different PC's and both times it says I am not eligible to use the coupon :(

  • The code didn't work for me :-(

    "Airbnb 10% off Bookings"

Basically how much Airbnb processing fee is, kinda like ebay.

    • Basically how much Airbnb processing fee is, kinda like ebay.

AirBNB sometimes charges a "processing fee" of 3% for currency conversion when the Guest's payment is in a different currency from 'something or other' (I have never been able to work it out clearly). However, this appears to only be in rare cases.

The AirBNB Fee for Guests is a sliding scale between 6% and 12% (but I think that in 99% of cases it is 12%).

The AirBNB Fee for Hosts is 3%.

  • Code didn't work for me either (tried with VPN too)

ooo how fun, good luck on the merry go round lottery dip that is air-bnb.

    • Are you for real? I have stayed in nearly 10 air-bnb places - all amazing experiences.

      • +1

100% for real mangzzzz I've also stayed in an air-bnb place which was fine.

But I've also heard stories from friends about apartments being disgusting, trashed, not like the photos etc etc. Like I said lucky dip.

I do understand that you can get your money back and all that, but paying last minute for a hotel because your appartment is a dive isn't a great outcome is it.

        • I've also stayed in an air-bnb place which was fine.

Congratulations on doing some research and getting a great outcome (prize) from the AirBNB Lucky Dip.

You do not seem to know much about AirBNB Guest Support and their processes/procedures.

A Guest has 24 hours from the check-in time to report any problem(s) to AirBNB.

The Guest(s) do not have to pay for an hotel.

First, AirBNB will assist in finding another AirBNB place. They will also help pay for a replacement place by adding up to 20% extra credit to the Guests original payment.

If a suitable AirBNB place can not be found in time (usually by late night), AirBNB will pay for a Hotel until a suitable place can be found.

        • Yeah because I know what I want to do after a 500 hour flight to the US is wait for AirBnb to find me a non dodgey room to sleep in while I sit in the streets with my luggage praying they find me a place / pay for my hotel.

        • @Duram:

Yeah because I know what I want to do after a 500 (sic) hour flight to the US is wait for AirBnb to find me a non dodgey room to sleep in while I sit in the streets with my luggage praying they find me a place / pay for my hotel.

Why would you not do due diligence when searching for your AirBNB accommodation? Just as you would do when choosing a hotel in which to stay.

You look at the Host's reviews from previous guests.

          For Example our listing:-

          https://www.airbnb.com.au/rooms/4344252

Guests read our reviews and then send a Booking Inquiry, or jump straight to Instant Book.

          Edit:
Oh, I gave your comment a + vote. As it is a good point to make.

By the way. In the USA there are usually lots of great Coffee Shops and Sports Bars in which to wait, and to use their free Wi-Fi while doing so.

  • I am using freedome vpn to access airbnb hk, but there was no box to put a discount code?
    any help?
    thanks

Agreed that the "Coupon Code" field is hard to find on the booking page. I hope Airbnb can improve on their GUI design.

You can see a screenshot on where to enter the Coupon code here, which is under the summary of fees on the right.

If you are looking at the Chinese version of the website, click on "優惠券" in the same spot.

Family loses $7000 after booking New York loft in Airbnb scam :

    Caveat Emptor

    • More like, Family loses $7000 after they bank transfer money to someone they don't know in hopes for a place to stay.

You can get scammed pretty easy on airbnb. Family member lost $2K and airbnb didn't want to know.

    • +4

You can get scammed pretty easy on airbnb. Family member lost $2K and airbnb didn't want to know.

Ahhh… No, that is completely false.

One can not be scammed on the AirBNB Web Site.

All on site transactions are covered by the AirBNB Guest Guarantee and all payments are fully protected.

It is only if one: communicates outside of the secure AirBNB Messaging Thread; leaves the security of the AirBNB Web Site; pays outside of the security of the AirBNB Payment System - that one can be scammed and lose money.

      • -1

This is true - it holds your payment until your stay is completed & then releases to the airbnb host.

        • This is true - it holds your payment until your stay is completed & then releases to the airbnb host.

          Ahhh… Well, no.

AirBNB will release the Host's payment 24 hours after the Guest's check-in time - or, if the Host has not specified a fixed Check-in time in their listing, 24 hours after 15:00 on the check-in date.

This gives the Guest 24 hours from Check-in to report any problems before the Host receives payment.

Legit booked mine just last week for one month stay in korea… universe hates me.

  • OP the code doesnt work on VPN either, bit disappointed :(

used this code instead :MEETHALFWAY [from retailmenot] $50 off $200.
    i guess better than nothing

    • +1

This deal must be US$. Tried to use code for ~$200 booking & got message "Code requires trip to cost at least $277 AUD". This is amount before the airbnb charge.

Took $69 off when code successfully applied pre-checkout.

EDIT: First tried to pay with credit card & got message "This code is not valid for this payment method". Apparently will only work with PayPal. Checkout directs to PayPal.com US site, & could not get my payment request to process. Gave up after several tries.

      • +1

yeah i couldn't get it to work either.

        • Shame, it would be a good saving. Has anyone got code to work??

      • yeah i thought i got it working, but it failed on me :(

Thanks a lot OP, save me AUD 155 for my trip…
    cheers,

Works for me! Used ZenVPN, didn't need to change to Airbnb HK or HKD, just as long as you're connecting the VPN through HK, you should be sweet.

  • +2

Can confirm that this worked for me as well, thanks OP.

Downloaded FreedomVPN via the app store on my iPhone 6 and successfully booked via the AirBnB app after changing my location via the VPN app to HK.

  • Confirm using HK VPN on my iPhone, coupon works 10% off.

The MEETHALFWAY code failed for me but this works, about the same savings.

    Thanks.

  • I used www.zenvpn.net the first time - all good,
then my request got rejected, then the guy tells me I can submit again becuase their friends don't need it after all - by this time the zenvpn trial had finished, I then used golden frog vyprvpn and worked again - lets hope its accepted this time….hardly seems worth all the effort - just jokes, I got $100 off - i would have done it for less than half that!!!

  • Works! I've used it a couple times now

  • Citibank code worked fine, Used HK VPN but Aussi AirBNB account, got 10% thanks OP.

  • Just used it over on my end too. Thanks for the code and thanks for the tips guys.

I used ZenVPN, signed up for an account, activated my.. 24 hr free trial? and then routed through HK. As mahasona and badtzmaru56 said, didn't need to change HK version of AirBNB or change to HKD - just required the VPN. Tried it without the VPN first and it didn't work, so the VPN was definitely necessary.
