Thanks, I am just thinking of replacing all pillows.

    • +1

Which one are you going for?

      • +1

I bought two latex pillows a few years ago and now I get great sleep. I'm a 6 ft male. I have one medium (classic?) and one high firm. The medium was too small for me though. The high is better but they really need something thicker again. ULTRA! Seems like the prices have gone up $20 - $30 a pillow since I bought mine but the dollar was high back then. Better yet they don't lose their shape and they don't grow dust mites.

  • Anyone have any recommendations?

    • +19

The high density heavy memory foam pillows are great for pillow fights.

      • There's a deal for health insurance somewhere on here…

      • I don't see it in the list. What's the product name (and the price)?

  • How is the quality of this brand? I haven't heard about them

    • +7

      Are you a new Australian?

      • Why would you guess so?

        • +16

Because never hearing of Tontine is like saying you've never heard of Vegemite.

        • @Rod71: you are right, because I don't know this brand. But no I know

        • +2

          @Rod71:

Would you respond to my question about the quality of this brand too if you don't mind?

        • @Meteorite: Yes, it's Australia's favourite pillow.

        • @Rod71: I've never heard the name either and I've been here my whole life. I guess being younger and never having actually bought any pillows explains it.

I've just been using all the hand me down pillows since I moved out!

        • +1

Tontine is the biggest brand in pillows.

Just head into any bedding retailer where you buy sheets, protectors etc (like BigW, Kmart, Target), and you'll see so many variants of pillows made by this mob it'll make your head spin :).

I'm 40yo… and I can't recall using another brand of pillow my whole life.

  • Arh.. can't resist the temptation and got a new pillow for myself

  • +4

Be careful, some things can still be had cheaper elsewhere.

    Example http://www.tontine.com.au/sale/tontine-anti-allergy-mattress… $65

http://www.manchestermadness.com.au/best-sellers-2015/tontin… $52 delivered ($5 flat rate per order)

    • Doesn't seem so anymore.

  • Are their quilt the best as well?

    • +1

I bought one for their wool quilts last year. It is ok quality but nowhere near as good as the Bambi quilt I also recently bought. I'd only buy tontine at half price, otherwise I don't think they are good value.

      • Bambi quilt sells their stuff online only?

    • +2

Depends what you mean by best quilt. Tontine is best for those on a budget with extremely lost cost (under $100), not goose down quilts of course but does the job.

If talking about best quality/price then Supreme Quilts is no competition the best brand in Australia, but at a much higher cost considering they use 90-95% polish/hungarian/siberian goose down with fill power of 650-830. The higher cost can also be bargained down through the 'offering' feature on their 2 ebay stores though.

Looking at Tontine's sale right now. Their site only lists 1 down quilt - 50% European duck down & 50% duck feather for $399 Queen size. Quite a rip off for duck down even with the sale. The wool quilts on Tontine's site are decent value though all under $100.

      • Same with Supreme Quilts. It has an ebay store but doesn't sell in David Jones, etc. How would I know how good it is compared with Onkaparinga, etc?

        • Onkaparinga isn't considered good at all. They don't even advertise fill power on their down quilts. Aussie market leader SupremeQuilts and USA market leader CuddleDown both clearly display the fill power on their respective websites. If a brand is hiding it then it's probably below 500.

When brands hide the most important factor in a quilt, which is the fill power, it's a clear indication of what's inside the quilt is of low quality.

        • @bargainerftw: hmm… Do you know any good ones that can actually be found in stores like David Jones so you can have a look at the product before you buy?

      • Can you elaborate more on how to use the 'offering' feature? And why do they have 2 ebay stores?

  • Thanks OP - Therapillo purchase made!

  • I bought some latex pillows. Thanks

  • Has anyone got a spinalease pillow as being promoted heavily by 2gb?

  • Anyone know when the sale is over? Can't seem to find it on their site. I am assuming the end of Sunday? I am going to be sleeping somewhere with one of the memory foam pillows tonight so I want to see if I like it first.

    • Email states starts Saturday ends Sunday (AEST) so that would mean midnight sunday.

Just looking through my pillows, the Tontine ones have all gone flat ('poly medium high') but the Target pillows have kept their shape well.

Here are the Target ones I have - $25 for two. Free delivery for orders over $39. Just a thought in comparison.

    • The target ones that I have purchased have been the ones with foam inside and polyester on the outer and they do tend to last longer. Tontines foam support pillow (link above) is $11.48 so I might be a better buy in the long run than the standard polyester value pillow range.

  • +1

Have been using Tontine until I bought Target pillows and realised just how crappy Tontine pillows were. Tontine went out of shape and shrunk within a few months. Especially Tontine Euro pillow, it's unrecognisable after 3 weeks. I'll never buy Tontine again. Hate is the word.

  • Thanks OP, just got 7 pillows for $60 delivered. It was about time to replace ours as they are starting to get a bit manky.

  • What are the pillows they use at the high end hotels? they always seem so so soft is there any tontine pillow that can replicate this?

    • +1

Varies mate, but if they are heavier than 'normal' its most likely Latex.
      Firm, durable, high quality.

Next time you find one that you really love, open the cover and check the label.

      • Thank you :)

what are your thoughts on this?

Rough weight? How do you like to sleep? Do you normally sleep with one pillow or two?

You've linked to a two pack… you need two?

My Mrs is smaller than me and prefers the medium height this pillow provides, and she also sleeps a lot on her front (so a higher pillow would be uncomfortable).

All depends on how you sleep bud. For me, I need something a little firmer/higher because I sleep on my sides… but sometimes I flop onto my stomach and like to sleep on the corner of the pillow (weird I know :)). So I went for the one I linked below. The foam is thinner on the edge and compresses enough for me to sleep on my stomach a bit. But I know I mostly sleep on my sides… ask your partner if you arent sure :).

Go to Domain or HN and try the pillows if you arent sure, but the one you've linked is good because its medium (which means if push comes to shove and you want more height, you could always put an older flatter pillow underneath for more height).

I'm not an expert by any means, but I do love my sleep and spent ages looking for my dream pillow :).

I am staying at a novotel atm and they are using tontine commercial grade anti stain foam core pillow.

  • Thanks OP. Just bought a Tontine mattress protector at Target. Going to return and take this offer. Cheers

Guys, forget about the cheap $10-15 pillows.

They are polly fill and will last 6 months tops.

Invest in a top notch latex or memory foam pillow suited to your body weight and sleep position, and you'll never look back… BELIEVE ME.
    I use this one http://www.tontine.com.au/pillows/memory-foam-latex/therapil….

I'm a bigger guy and I tend to sleep on my side. This pillow comes with me when I travel its that good :).

I look at it this way…

You spend a lot of your life sleeping.
Invest in a really good pillow and mattress and the sleeping experience completely changes for you.
A $15 pillow every 6-12 months that never really feels perfect.
Or a $90 pillow (marked down from $180!) that lasts far longer and feels A LOT better.

    • +1

You're still taking a punt on a $90 pillow though.

      • +1

Most people would be happy to spend $200 (or a lot more) on a good pair of shoes…. for their FEET.
Sometimes you'll get it wrong and the shoes aren't right when you use them for a full day. That's a gamble most are prepared to take.

But when it's a pillow for your HEAD, people all of sudden expect miracles from a $10-15 pillow, and then base their expectations on that when buying other pillows.

Do yourself a huge favour and try out some of these more expensive pillows. I'm not saying this to make money (I'm not affiliated in any way with a pillow manufacturer or retailer). I'm saying this because I "took a punt" and have never looked back, and its made a huge difference to how I feel during the day after a sound sleep.

A perfect pillow makes a HUGE difference to how well you sleep, which then affects how you feel throughout the day.

Just like shoes, find the right brand/style/model and stick with it. Even if it takes a few attempts. It's worth it.

If my favourite pillow went to $300 replacement in 5 years, I'd still buy it.
My favourite sneakers are New Balance 860's in 4E (extra wide) fit. It took me 4 different brands and styles to find the one that fits perfectly. Its the perfect fit for me… not Nike, not Adidas, not Dunlop Volly's.

Same with my pillow. Find the right one and you'll never go back to cheap and nasty. A Dunlop Volly has a purpose, but it'll never be as comfortable as a modern shoe that costs more. Just think of the hours you'll spend on a decent pillow. Seriously… its important!

Dont go through life with a crap pillow!! I did for 30 years, then 'upgraded'. Big difference.

  • Thanks OP ordered 4

  • Bought the Venus Mars work in king size (we had the queen size we bought from target about 1.5 years ago and its been awesome, but having recently upgraded to a king bed recently I have been looking for this quilt in king at a few Target stores but couldn't find it anywhere).

Also bought a king size waterproof bed protector and a baby pillow fit the little one. Saved me a freaking stack of cash with this deal. WOOT.

  • Sale is finished :(.

Still free delivery, but the 50% pricing has ceased.

  • Has anyone received shipping notification?

    • yes I do. Mine shipped yesterday

      • Did you create an account? I didn't so maybe it's not sending my shipping notification.

        • I didn't either

        • @chonghe: Ah okay, I should get mine soon then. Thanks.
