Will this work on sliding doors? If not is there any similar lock for sliding door? Thanks

Hi there, No It won't work on sliding doors. We don't have another lock that will work on them but there are some type of child safety locks available on eBay.

A suitable length of timber dowel will work or any timber cut to the right length really.

        • We use this too. The advantage (besides being cheap) is that you can set the length so that you can leave your sliding door/window partially open for ventilation but too small for a person to get through. When not needed you can just stand the dowel upright leaning against the wall (sliding doors/windows are rarely opened fully), and drop it down when required.

@edvoon: Be a bit careful using this trick to leave windows/doors slightly open as allot of older sliding windows/doors can be lifted up and out of their tracks (for installation and cleaning) when not fully closed.
Also a handy trick to clean them if you have security screens.

        • @MoneyPincher: Thanks for that heads-up, I'll check that.

  • I've been looking at these for some time. I'm about to travel to Asia and they seem to be very hand useful but I'm still not sure how they operate. Are you supposed to use then to prevent anyone to open the door if your room? But you can only install this from the inside, so, why would you want to lock the door if you are already inside the room to keep tour things safe?
Maybe I'm not properly understanding how this works, that's why I'm asking.

    • Hello jaragonzalo. The lock is used as a personal privacy, safety or security device. It helps to warn you or stop unwanted intrusion whilst you are in the room. Many people use them on their travels especially when staying in unfamiliar hotels, hostels, backpackers or places that don't offer very good security. Personal property items can be replaced if stolen or damaged even though it can be distressing at the time.

      • Thanks for the info rep! Very useful indeed

  • Purchased one

Looks handy to have and a good price

  • So many good comments, so many people buying one, such a good price and my trip overseas getting closer that I couldn't resist temptation and bought one.
I'm staying at cheap backpacker hostels, and from some reviews I remember some people complaining that some bathroom doors don't have working locks, so this should come very handy, thanks!
