    Decent deal. Thanks OP.

    $100 x 24 months = $2400, iPhone 6 Plus = ~ $1400.
    $2400-1400 = $1000/24 = $42/month for 20Gb of data, unlimited calls + 500 international minutes. A good deal if you need a new phone.

    • +2

      last years model though.

      • That's fine.

        New model is $1529.

      • +5

Is there a deal even close to 20GB for $42?

Even if you sold the iPhone and paid a bit more for a 6s.

        • realistically talking you could sell it for 1.2k MAX on ebay
minus fees of 200 you are left with 1k so you pay $58 a month for the plan

        • yeah yeah, that's the way to go. ___

        • +1

@tuzii: try Gumtree, Facebook and WeChat save $200.

        • +1

          @malouphix:
          and deal with low ballers…..

        • +2

@tuzii: You ignore those low ballin' mofos.

        • +2

Yeah, gumtree is ok when you have the item in demand.

Gee, even if it was $80/month, what else has 20GB, unlimited calls, unlimited SMS?

So for $40 it's pretty unbelievable value.

        • +1

          @rochow:

Only if you A) need a new phone, really want a new phone, and

          B) would use 20gbs a month.

          But still, it's $100 a month.

        • +2

20GB is enough that a number of people could go without home internet which would be a decent saving. Not really suitable for me though.

  • Would you take an S5 over an S6?

    • Expandable memory, removable battery and water resistant features are all not available on the S6, so I can imagine some people will still go for the S5

    • +4

I would imagine that if you wanted the either of these the best option would be to get the 6+ 128GB and sell it and then buy the Android.

      • Buy some people might not have the time or go through the trouble to sell a phone and buy another one. just join the plan and use the phone/20gb data.

  • +11

You can get the the iPhone 6s for a bit more…

    6s 64gb $100 / month
    6s 128gb $106 / month

    http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/iphone/iphone-6s

  • -5

128gb is only going to last you 6.5 months.

    • +1

more like 6 months once you take into account IOS overheads..

    • +2

      Say wha…?

      • They be talking smack!

    • +1

OzBargain does not like your joke, apparently. Probably because it should be 6.4 months. They're sticklers.

  • Would optus invoice you for the handset component and allow you to pay outright? would be handy for TRS

  • +1

Wow my plan is $111 a month for 8gb, think Optus will be willing to give me an updated version of my plan for 20gb? In not asking for lowering my plan to $80 just adding additional data without paying the extra.

    • Maybe try and upgrade to the "$135/month" plan. And don't mention that it's discounted to $100 :p

    • just used the online chat, got my $80 a month plan upgraded to this deal. They said it should be active next billing cycle, now lets just hope they didn't add a second plan…..

      • Don't forget to ask about phone repayment.
Optus might charge with your old phone repayments plus the new plan cost.
        It's better to check I think…

    • +1

yes they will but you have to ask them. best way to do it is through their app. use the live chat feature.

  • can you get S6 Edge 128GB from optus anywhere?

  • Has anyone tried to upgrade an existing plan to this new plan? I have the 6+ on the $80 plan and would upgrade to the $100 plan if I could.

    • Short answer is they can apply this to existing plans but if you were paying handset payments (which I think all previous plans were) then these handset payments would be on top of the $100 ($135) plan.

The longer explanation for those that are interested.
I just spent an hour on chat with Optus trying to apply it to my existing plan. All seemed to be going well with the Optus rep say that they could "absolutely move me to the new plan". I asked if I would continue to pay $100, they said yes. It wasn't until I actually asked if the handset payments were included in the plan, that they said it wasn't.

IMO they were misleading, but I won't die in a ditch over it.

  • +1

Is the bonus 10 days Optus Travel Packs every month? or once off?
If it is every month, that is awesome value.

    • +2

      It's 10 days per month.

      From the CIS:

As part of this plan you will receive up to 10 days of Optus Travel™ Pack for use within each billing month. You need to ensure your Optus Travel™ Pack is activated by contacting Optus prior to use. Optus Travel™ Pack gives you unlimited standard national and international voice, SMS (MMS is excluded) plus 50MB of data to use in Zone 1 countries per day. For list of countries see

      • Thanks. Its a great deal as the Optus Travel are normally $10 per day.
Pity that I just signed up to Virgin last week … why.. :(

        • +1

          It's not a bad deal.
I paid $60 for a travel sim with 1GB in the US. I guess I can get by with 10 days of unlimited calls (in certain countries) and 500mb of data and not have to deal with changing sims, etc.

        • +1

@jimbo jones: I am in NZ 5 days a week.
So the Optus Travel pack is great.

But the Virgin plan have data roll over, as I dont use much, I can accumulate a lot of data.

With this Optus plan, I will forfiet most of the data (20GB) each month…

          Hmmm… decisions..

  • +1

Before the EOFY I got the 128gb 6 plus with double data (13gb) through Vodafone and pay about $113 a month I think, so in comparison this is pretty good!

    • I got the 128gb 6 plus with 7GB data for $70 a month (on the $100 plan). I would be lucky to use even half my data allocation in any month

  • +2

Bloody good deal if you include the travel pack. Saves having to purchase a sim for every time you travel.

  • +1

Thanks op. Im interested in getting the Note5. The $85 deal is cracking value for 8gb of data, 300 int minutes etc. Telstra offering 2.5gb of data for another $3 more. Hoping for a telstra deal in the next week or so but im not holding my breath, some competition is always welcome

  • +1

T-Mobile unlimited sims in the USA are $30.00 each for 1 month- purchased one at Walmart 2 weeks ago

  • Any advice on getting out of my Voda plan for the same price but shittier phone, shitter coverage and 10gb less in data?

  • Doubt majority of the people on this plan are going ot use even half of the monthly data allowance. Unless you are tethering most of the time you are out and about.

    • with optus they allow data sharing among devices. i have 22gb of data shared with 2 phones and 3 ipads so this is very handy for those type of scenarios

      • But do you actually need to share the data. I mean most homes will have wifi so its main use comes when you are out of the home. I am assuming you also need to pay extra for the shared sims. Unless all 6 devices are used out of the home I would just be hooking it up to the wifi. But yeah it does make sense if you have those many devices.

        • +1

you do not have to pay extra for the shared sims. Also i have 3 kids who each of their own ipad and the shared data comes in handy in the car. They all watch you tube videos and play online games so for me it works. But i can understand for most people 20gb is probably overkill but i guess it nice to have.

    • +1

Its 2015 plenty of services consume bandwidth to go over 20GB, the only reason mobile data usage is low for many people is because data caps are typically small.

      • Yes that's fair enough. My point is does 20GB need to be used over 3/4G or could majority of it be using the home/work wifi

  • nexus 6p for the win

    • huh?

      • -2

its the name of a phone thats not an iphone, wouldnt expect isheep to know that other phones exist lol

        • +1

          I have a nexus 4 & 5. I know what Nexus 6P is.

  • Mobile data caps slowly rising? PogChamp

  • $90 with broadband discount?

    • +1

according to their website, yes :)

  • +1

Im also seeing $100 google play credit on the s5 and s6 deals.

  • Hey guys i just re contracted with optus with the iphone 6s plus on the $80 plan i did this less than 7 days ago can i change to this one? or is there no cooling off period? I hate it when they do this

    • +1

      Why don't you ask Optus

    • I believe you can change the plan to higher ones BUT the handset repayment stays.
      Example:
If you have plan $70 +$10 handset then you can take the plan $100 +$10 handset (from your original plan) in total you will be paying $110 per month - although the plan $100 actually could give the handset for free.

      Hope this helps.

  • +1

So I tried to add the promo ($100 + $14)/month for iphone 6s plus 128gb and at the checkout page it's asking $149?!

    • +1

That's because you are actually signing up to a $135 plan and you'll get a $35 rebate on your bill every month, They do this if you want to break the contract early the penalties will be charged for the higher price.

  • +2

Just "upgraded" from my current 128Gb 6S+ 8Gb Plan ($107 per month) to the 20Gb plan for $106(!). Did it in the online chat, very easy.

I did have to guide the rep to the offer page though :-)

I also get more international minutes (500) and free 10 days of travel pack. Very happy, thanks OP.

  • Hey with those who have upgraded their plan to this can you help me out lol.
I currently have an iPhone 4s 8g on a $50 a month plan with optus. Because I use a lot more than my 1gb data I overspend on this plan every month, usually my bill is around $100. I really want to change to this plan but since my contract ends in June they have said $200 plus $70 handset repayments to pay this contract out. Anyway around this? I plan to hop on live chat with them later, for those who upgraded their plans how long did you have left on yours?

    • You only will be eligible for a free upgrade 3 months beforehand, but that seems 3 months away,

If I were you I'd just upgrade and cop the bill, you could sell the 4S to cover the break cost.

If your spending $50 extra a month anyway you would have made your money back within 5 months anyway.

You also will only have to pay $200 now and the handset repayments will just continue monthly until they finish

      • Good points. My problem is mainly coming up with the $200 upfront now, with Xmas and $1000 car repairs all happening. I've seen they used to do something called rollback, where if you spent over your plan each month it would reduce your contract. Shame they got rid of that!

        • i dont think they have, work out the anniversary of your contract, for example if its 15 June 2016, then every month on the 16th your early termination should reduce by X amount of dollars. if your worried about the $200, wait until the anniversary this month, and chances are the $200 wont be due till late January, by then im sure you would have sold it.

        • @abzolutely:
That actually works out well, anniversary date is tomorrow.
Reading through the contract I signed for this phone and the receipts with it, I was charged a $190 ternination fee last time which they split over 10 months and added it to each bill. That was done in store though, maybe the online staff won't offer this, or maybe it's something they don't do now. Doubt I will be able to resell this phone, home button has fallen off and the memory is incredibly small, main reason I want to upgrade!

  • Ended up getting the 6SPlus 128GB for 104$P/M with the $10 dollar broadband discount.

I hate and love this post at the same time.

    • Which Plan?

      Hmm I'm confused. I got $106 but it's showing $114 now.

      • The 20GB 135 down to 114$ plan.

  • Does anyone knows if the 50MB data (roaming) can be rolled over per day? per month?

    • +1

have used it in a bunch ie 5 day trip you can use 250mb all on one day if you choose handy if you need to plan a lot in a day

      • That is great. Thanks for confirming.
500MB of roaming data per month is quite good.

I think I will cancel my Virgin order (it is awaiting a credit check at present) and jump on this instead :-)

  • Anyone have experience with Optus trade in policy?
How good condition does it have to be if you say it doesn't have bumps or scratches?

  • Available in store?

    • I was in store in the afternoon, asking about the best plan for 6s plus, and their price on the pc is still $135 and +$14 for the 6s plus 128gb…. the guy have no idea about this deal… lucky i check with Ozb. afterward.

  • +2

Think OPTUS has become the new VODAFONE, seeing constant good deals from OPTUS lately, where as Vodafone deals have turned pretty crap

    • They're definitely doing good deals. Their CEO knows what's up.

  • Hmm $752 total to cancel my 64GB iPhone 6 contract with Telstra. Should be able to sell it for around $600ish.. $150 to get the new iPhone and 17.5GB more a month.. Very tempting.. Moved my wife over to Optus last week after Telstra wouldn't play ball and the speed and coverage has been decent enough.

    • Ok called Optus and they offered to waive the first month of the contract if I ported across. Deal done! Assuming I can sell my iPhone 6 for $600. Anyone in need of one? Lol. It's only going to cost me $50 to upgrade to the new iPhone and with wwaayyy more data.

      • I chatted with optus and tried for 20 mins trying to get this offer, they wouldn't give it !!! :(

        • Wouldn't give it to me on chat either. Immediately tried their call centre afterwards and the guy went and asked his manager straight away and came back with the offer. Give them a ring!

  • +1

just sign up on the 6s plus 128gb… cost $104 per month after the deal and discount from optus home broadband.
have to get help with the chat support, because the check out summary will still saying $139

here is a trick, you don't have to be the account holder of the home broadband to get the $10 discount. just ask some one you know with Optus Broadband to use their address, and since all billing will be online, there won't be hassle with you bill from Optus.

"If your mobile plan and home broadband plan are at the same address, you'll get $10 off your monthly mobile bill. The prices below include your $10 bundle discount."

    • Thanks. Now I have to find someone with Optus broadband :)

    • does that mean the address on your mobile phone account will be the address of your friend's house that has the Optus broadband?

What implications does that in terms of getting phones sent out etc.

      • you can have the phone send to your "previous" address !!
i got my send to my "previous" address as I said they would be some one there.

remember to tell your friend that you're using the deal as I think it is only applied once special per home (not sure about this one… might need to clarify with Optus)

the account information/bill can be set to be online, so your friend won't be getting your bill (maybe marketing material through!)

  • Can I ask a really dumb question?

If you sign up planning to sell the phone, it's not locked to Optus right?

    • +1

phone are not locked… even telstra don't do it anymore… only prepaid phone are locked.

  • Just want to have this more specific.. My plans $111 for 8Gb of data on my iPhone 6 plus 128gb model, can I pay no additional charges to have an extra 12Gb data stacked on top of my 8Gb of data as noted on the new plan as I'm paying well above $100 then I should be having 20gb of data in total if that makes any sense?

    • As long as your plan has no handset repayments then yes you should be able to upgrade your plan to pay less money and have more data, other people in the comments have claimed to have done this.

  • Just changed my plan which is over $110 per month to the $100 my plan plus with 20Gb data. Im surprised that they would let you down grade a plan and pay less? Or because it's actually a upgrade since it was meant to be $135 but reduced to $100?

  • woah… just got the phone delivered today… great service.
can't wait for the freebie glass screen cover from Zapals :-)

  • I just rung Optus to change my plan over to this deal. I was paying $115 inc. handset repayments per month for unlimited calls and text and 12gb of data. Now I am paying $105 a month for this deal with the $10/month bundle discount because we have Optus cable at home too!
