LG Leon $79 @ Woolworths, Starts 25/11

120

Starting Wednesday, Woolworths will be selling the LG Leon for $79. Optus will also give you $20 Google Play credit. Locked to Optus, but I'm pretty sure Bagman should be able to provide an unlock code for a few dollars.

Seems similar to the Telstra 4GX Buzz, the ZTE Fit, and the Alcatel Pixi 4.5. Reasons to choose the LG over the others are that it has extra frequencies (Buzz doesn't have Optus 3G 900 or 4G 2100, which only really matter if you want to use Optus). Also, it has LG functions like the "make a fist to take a selfie", etc. Although I'm guessing the LG mods are also the reason some people would vote against it. Buzz also has a slightly larger battery.

Activate the include SIM to get the $20 Google Play credit from Optus.

Note: They say 8MP Camera, but everywhere else says 5MP camera, so I think WOW have made a typo.

  • Got a catalogue link or something?

  • Leon is such an un-phone sounding name I doubt I could use one.

Got it for around $50 as a part of Big W's 50% off sale a few weekends back. The gf loves it. Performs surprisingly well.

  • Can anyone answer these please:
IS this a dual sim version ?
and, it should work with Amaysim ? correct ? (Amaysim is under Optus)

    Thanks.

  • The Telstra 4gx buzz is still the way to go?

Yeah, any ideas what version this one is?

There is a LG Leon version with NFC as well if I recall.

I think it's this version for sale at Woolies.

The camera is in the back of the body is equipped with auto focus and LED flash

In my opinion it should have autofocus otherwise it wouldn't be able to detect your fist properly.

Not sure though… Can someone please confirm the auto focus part?

The one in the posts above is the H340N which the review states doesn't have autofocus but it has auto focus according to this:

    Multi-point Auto Focus
When you take a picture, the Multi-point Auto Focus (AF) function operates
automatically and will allow you to see a clear image

Click Product Support -> Manual -> Inside PDF, Camera Page, starts page 49, but the important information is on page 52.

    • I wouldn't trust the GSMArena specs. Except for the flagships, I often spot errors in their specs. Having said that, I find it hard to believe it wouldn't have autofocus. I've bought one, but can't tell what model it is without opening it up (it's a Christmas gift so I can't open it). If the camera is no good I'll just use it as a backup for it's numerous, cross-carrier band support.

Heads up that BigW have 50% off Optus devices starting this Friday, so it might be cheaper there if you can find it.

      • Is that a hidden sale? I went to BigW and asked if they had any discounted phones and they said to come back later in the week.

I still can't find any information online about it.

Sorry, it's not Friday, it's Saturday. I've got a "Think Weekend Sale" catalogue here (from my letterbox) that says it's only on sale Saturday 5/12 and Sunday 6/12. It doesn't seem to be a local sale, so perhaps the catalogue will go online later in the week.
It says "50% off all Optus devices. Models and styles may vary by store". 50% off Guy Leech gym equipment, 20% off Home, 30% off industrial clothing, 40% off footwear.
