  • Nice, that's about $300 Aussie, usually go for around $450 Aussie.

Nice buy, I'm just scared of losing 8TB of data in one hit, so I'd have to buy two…… argh.

      You just saved $300!
But keep them in separate locations in case of fire or nasty theft. The Internet is my backup. All my files are on the torrent network.

      • Why would the torrent network feel the need to keep seeding your personal files like photos etc?

        • +3

My files aren't personal, anyone can use them.

Yep, already have redundancies in place, i think I will stick to max 4TB…. for now anyway.

    • You could buy the 5TB model which is same cost per TB if your worried.
      Buy two for redundancy.

    • Generally, yeah. I personally do buy two for this reason. In this case I'd be concerned enough to avoid still due to the technology.. does it use HAMR? If so, no thanks - not proven stable yet.

SMR I can deal with for an archive drive like this.

    • If you know what you're doing, you'll never lose 8TB in one hit. If the files are important, there are ways to automatically duplicate the files across multiple hard drives.

      • Hence buying two drives at once…. I have around 10 externals at the moment.

  • Price via Amazon Exchange is about $305 ish
Given ShoppingExpress is doing 8TB internal for $300 before freight tomorrow this is pretty decent.

including the USD $5 app referal from earlier posting on OzB worked out to be $301.77 all up delivered via Standard shipping.
So would be about $310 delivered without I think at the amazon exchange rate.

If this drops further over black friday, amazon should be ok to refund the difference within 7days of delivery i think is their policy.

jesus christ, since when did 8tb hard drives become available 0.0

what a time to be alive.

Seagate have had their 8TB Archive drives around since March this year, maybe longer.

Ive had one in my computer since June… no issues at all. Runs lovely.

Wait till you see 16TB SSD drives coming out in the next couple of years. :)

Didn't think it was intended for 24/7 use. Read somewhere the expected life was 12 months.

      • Ive had one in my computer since June… no issues at all. Runs lovely.

Mine failed spectacularly after less than 2 months of use. The replacement is still working but I really don't trust these SMR HDDs and I've resorted to making another set of backups in addition to my live RAID data, and the Seagate 8TB.

WD have a 10TB, uncertain if released.

And wait for it…Samsung have created a 2.5" 16TB SDD, not released as yet.

      • +3

16TB SSD - I'm waiting till it's under a million, hopefully after Christmas:)

  • $37 per tb is good.

  • thanks, bought one.

why it is bit cheaper for me? USD $213.95 total.

    • That's same as the price in the title.

  • I asked on amazon and the seagate hdd's apparently dont come with an australian power socket. Not sure if you have to buy one or its unusable via power.

    • From past experience they ship with universal voltage plug packs, but with a US 2 pin plug. So either use a travel adaptor or bend the pins.
