  • Hey Rep,

Just a quick question and might be a stupid one BUT, do you ship to QLD? I just ask as the Vic/WA title

If you can you have sold one already :P

Hi - do these Palit cards have the fan-off at idle function similar to the EVGA and ASUS cards?

    • The fan on these shouldn't turn off, otherwise they would overheat. I'd also expect them to be pretty noisy idling just like most other blower coolers.

      • Most brands have a no-fan idle function because modern chips auto-drop their operating frequencies/voltages/power draw to a very low level when doing 2D work. When idling/2D the GTX 960 only draws 7-8W.

        • Well I haven't seen a blower/enclosed cooler that does that plus it's the cheapest version, all the ones that have the feature use much larger open heatsinks.

        • @bentan77: Fair enough.

I found a review that compares various dual/triple fan designs with the reference/OEM blower style. The blower style is indeed louder both idle and load but is still only 37.3-40.4dB at 18 inches away which is above a whisper but a long way from loud.

        • @tantryl:

So I guess the answer is no - it doesn't have the fan idle function?
Fairly quiet it may be, but not silent like the Asus' "DirectCU II" , MSI's "Zero Frozr", or EVGA's ACX models?

        • @hallph: Yup, that appears to be the case. No zero fan mode.

    • This review appears to be of an OEM version of the same basic design and the fan doesn't start spinning until the GPU hits 54C and according to the testing the GPU idles around 44C so it should be silent when idling.

What's the usual price for this? Is this a non-popular brand? I'm building a ~$1500 gaming pc and needing a decent card. Please help.

    • I bought one because it was the right price point.

The card is good but the cooler could be better if you are really going to push it.

      • I'm not really an overclocking guy, I'm not that pro. I only use products as it is.

    • for a $1500 build budget you can get a better card than this

      • What card should I get?

    • +8

For ~$1500 you should at least get a gtx 970

      • what's the price point for gtx 970?

        • ~$470 for 970

  • great price for 4GB!

Palit is a perfectly fine brand. In my experience there really aren't any bad videocard brands. Some spend more on marketing, and some spend none. And that's about the difference.

if you have a 7870 amd card or gtx 580 and above there isnt a point to upgrade unless your building a new system otherwise great card at good price you can also find a amd r9 380 for 305 AUD shipped via newegg if someone wants a little more grunt.

I reckon its worth upgrading from 580 myself. Especially for the DX12 compatibility.

      • DX12 would be well worth investing in a more powerful card but, gpu boss doesn't represent a well balanced real world testing especially for games, but it is up to the buyer i suppose.

        • It's always going to be better to get a higher card. I'd love a 980ti bit I cannot afford it. I'm not a hardcore gamer so I'm happy with getting a 960 for Xmas. When the next gen of cards come out I'll grab another for cheap. 960 4gb sli scales very well in most reviews.

  • How much RAM do they normally have?
Is "4Gb GB Only" still enough for modern games?

    • +1

4gb is in the higher end of the spectrum. Most cards under 300 have 2g of Vram.

    • my 2gb gtx960 asus strix gets my ultra quality auatomatically set on fallout so i reckon it'll be fine.

    • Depends on what resolution you are playing at. Currently, 4gb is plenty for 1080p, doable for 1440p but it is not enough for 4k@60fps.

  • +2

That 128 bit bus though. I rather go with Radeon 380 for abit more cash. Much more future proof.

  • What I'd love to see is another post like this one:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/216477
I'd be looking for a good value all-rounder build for about $1,000

  • I have bought Palit card my whole time in the gaming hobby, I recommend them. Remember future proofing by buying the latest greatest thing is a waste of money. With High Bandwidth Memory just around the corner for non-flagship, cards, this will be a good intermidate until they become more affordable. • I'm a vote up just for ple.

I really enjoy their website and the records they keep of each item ive bought through them. Tells me how many days warranty i have left on each item

  • Hi Store Rep, how about some price adjustment on your eBay store? Got some voucher to use for this card, if it's possible?

    • Hi,

Sorry, eBay pricing is a whole separate deal with eBay fees etc to take into account.

      Thanks

  • How long will this deal be valid for rep?

    • Depends how quickly they sell ;) Should be able to hold it up over the weekend.

  • Nice deal. Hope you bring back the deal on the palit 980ti

  • Looking to possibly update my son's desktop PC. It's running the Phenom II X6 1155 @ 2.8/3.3 w/12GB RAM. 125wt/socket AM3. If I were to get this card, what sort of decently priced motherboard would be a good fit? Current board us the Asus M489GTD-Pro-USB3 (5 years old).

    Opinions, please?

    Ta!

    • There's no need to change the mainboard.

      • Thanks for that. Yeah, I've been keeping an eye out for motherboard deals— but I don't see much out there interesting unless you pay lots for it. I just thought maybe I was missing something— yet looking at specs, this 5 yr. old board is still holding it's own, it seems?

        Ta.

    • I can do a limited number of the Palit GeForce GTX980Ti 6GB for $929 use coupon code OZB980TI

      • -1

how about $899 like the offer in Aug? ;)

      • -1

        rep $899 doable?

  • +1

After AMD cut prices, this is junk…
    http://wccftech.com/amd-r9-fury-x-nano-price-cuts/

    • wow $50 USD, that is alot. It makes more sense to buy AMD….

      • not sure if sarcasm or..

        • no sarcasm…i did consider AMD 390 vs 970 when I was building my pc. But if the 390 was 50 usd cheaper I would have gotten the 390.

  • +3

Wouldn't say, "junk". The only one in that story that's in the range of the Palit on offer is the Powercolor. It's $250AUD + shipping, so about the same cost. Yet the Palit is AU stock & available here & now.

Will there always be better & greener grass? Yep. Will you always wait & wait & never purchase?

In the meanwhile, my son will have a shiny, new, well-reviewed, 4GB graphics card & a shiny new 480GB SSD installed in time for Xmas.

    :)

  • No Paypal Surcharge

Is this for everything from PLE or just this item? I've never shopped with you guys before. If you guys don't charge any of these rubbish charges on anything and your prices are similar to PCCG then I might make the switch.

    • That's for every item! SMS updates on your order too. We'd be happy to have you on board.

    • PLE are pretty good base on my experience.

  • You can go overclocked (and better brand) for $297 on Mwave ebay (with 20% off code)

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX-960-WindForc…

$8.91 cashback from cashrewards will mostly pay the $12 shipping.

  • Ended Mwave— after a decade— for not matching their own price-drop when item hadn't even shipped, their own site, a long-time (years) customer. HAVE NEVER BOUGHT again. Me, an early 2000 client. Bad call on their part.

  • Please remove that last comment— my son thought he was being funny- (it kind of is, actually- lol).

  • Any chance for a deal on a 390?
