I've been looking at these for a while, it is by far the cheapest it has been on amazon according to camelcamelcamel.

According to a couple reviews i've read, these are generally considered a "fun sounding headphone" (with particular emphasis on lows), so if you are looking for something more balanced/neutral, then this isn't for you.

I probably would've bought these had i not bought the v-moda wireless 2 days ago…

  • Fantastic bass heavy headphones at a fantastic price.

Just word of warning, the default earpads may be uncomfortable (or painful) to wear for long periods of time. XL earpads are sold on V-Moda website (and delivered to Aus) which make this a very comfortable headphone, and slightly improve the sound quality too. I'm not a fan of this slightly sleezy upsell tactic but can't say I don't love this how this headphone sound and feels as a package.

  • Oooh, tempting. I've had these on my watchlist for awhile, hoping for Black Friday sales. But after weeks of reading, listening and asking questions, I think I'm gonna with the Beyer DT770 instead (or if I can scrape together come extra coin, the JVC SZ2000)

    But I'll be buggered if $225 isn't tempting…

    • i have both DT770 and M-100, and i would strongly recommend the M-100, particularly at this price!

if you're after a fun bassy headphone for portable use, then definitely the M-100.

if it's for home use, for extended periods of time, then yeah, DT-770 for the comfort (they are very comfortable with the velour pads!).

      • Man, it's the comfort that is really winning me over. That said, I do love me some bass. Do the M-100s keep up with metal music OK? These cans would be used exclusively for office/home use, either through a FiiO amp or Yamaha receiver, so power isn't a problem.

At this rate I'm gonna buy both and sell the one I like the least…

        • +1

ah sorry, can't really help much with metal…in that case, maybe the DT770 might be the best option for you.

see comments here (which you've probably already seen):

another option that is really quick for rock/metal is HD25 (and variants). they are great for isolation too, but are on-ears, so some people find them uncomfortable for extended use.

for comfort, DT-770 with the velour pads are pretty great!

you should probably go with your gut, and go for the DT770 (sorry for confusing!) :)

        • @caprimulgus: lol, that's fine, thanks for your input!

  • Great headphones - one of my favourite headphones of all time, I miss mine, sold it and swapped for XS model.
tempting, but I'm after the wireless model now. $225 is a great price for an awesome set of headhpones
