  when a company makes BS claims like the following, alarm bells should start ringing about the rest of their claims

  That's rubbish and I would say the opposite is potentially true, as using a VPN service means all your personal data is up for grabs by them as it passes through their servers. Also writing your own security software is unlikely to be secure, as you don't have the benefit of external analysis of your software.

  More importantly, companies like PIA have much better deals.
