Oh so my hoarding is really just altruism for the rest of society?

          Cool!

        • +1

@Scrooge McDuck: whem you put it that way, it could be an expensive and inefficient form of carbon capture

      • +1

        Should have Brodened it

      • SHUN SHUN SHUN

  • +1

    is it waterproof?

    • Optus doesn't list waterproof as a feature on xperia e1 page. Only supports 900 & 2100Mhz 3G which may be a deal breaker for some.

    • …and is it smart enough to walk on water?

      • only as smart as its owner…

      • Jebus!, It's just a phone.

        • It's just a $4 phone

          FTFY

    • +1

It's a $4 phone, I wouldn't be surprised if it were full of candy!

  • +1

Kmart mirrabooka in Perth doesn't have any. Sounds like it's a store to store thing.

  • +3

    Kmart Werribee no stock.

  • I'm guessing that as it says "Optus" it's network locked to Optus?

    • +1

Yes it's locked out of the box to the Optus network. But you can use it on Optus mobile network resellers just fine such as amaysim for an example.

But hey i bought one of these Optus Sony Xperia E1 phones from Kmart a few months ago, tried the phones IMEI through the Optus mobile phone unlocker and it issued an unlock code straight away free of charge.

So if you get one of these phones, try the IMEI through the Optus mobile phone unlocker and see how it goes you may just get a free unlock code.

    How many were in stock?

    • I went to Indooroopilly lunchtime yesterday and asked how many they had that morning, and she said no they didn't have any, but in a tone where she'd been asked a few times already..

  • +1

No stock at altona gate, Vic.

  • +3

It must be store special for clearance. I also bought Motorola mini defy for $17 (last item) 2 months back from Kmart, ACT

  • +2

I would call this insufficient stock quantity as this is only at one store and would be very little stock.

    • but there is exception in that the price is amazingly low.

      • Only for those who live any where near the Indooropilly store. :)

        • +1

I reckon there are a few KMart Indooroopilly store employees who have one or ten of these now

  • +1

    Any in Sydney?

    • +2

      No

      • +16

I applaud you sir for checking every Kmart in Sydney on our behalf.

        • +6

          You're welcome old chap

  • Are there any other stores stocking this model which price-match?

Online searches of Officeworks, Target, K-Mart, Big W and DSE yielded no results.

  • Bulky phone, too thick, very bad battery life and horrible overall performance.
I understand it's a $1, but are you going to use it as a primary mobile?

    • +1

This may be just the shot for a poor man who can't afford a better phone. :P

    • +4

Why does it need to be a primary phone?

For this price it's a good toy phone for kids to play around with. Or to keep aside in case your main phone breaks or is lost and you need one temporarily. I would pick one up if I was able to. It wouldn't replace my Galaxy S6. But between a couple of kids and a missus that tends to drop her phone a lot it would surely come in handy at some point.

    RIP kmart's store phone numbers

  • Damnit, really wish I could leave work to check this. I need an Mp3 player for the gym with a touch screen so I can navigate through long audio mixes.

  • K-Mart Cannon Hill also had clearances on mobile items.

  • None in Tassie's Newtown or Rosny

  • no stock at Kmart since a week ago

  • Price-match it at Officeworks and purchase it for 95 cents?

    • $0.95? How? It says $4…

  • Is it locked to Optus?

    • +6

      Optus Sony Xperia E1

      Probably.

      • +1

Heh well it was a fair question. I bought an unlocked S5 last weekend from Telstra with all the branding on it.

    • Should be Unlocked already for a phone 2+ years old

  • +2

Wow I bought a Moto E 2015 for US$10.88, and thought THAT was a good deal. AU$4 is crazy!

    • +1

Where did you get MotoE 2015 for US$10.88 from which website? I am planning to buy one of this. How good is this phone.

      • I bought it from Best Buy. The catch is… I am in New York now. If you have a freight forwarder then you might be able to get it

  • +10

    Telstra $2 Nano SIM - 10c
Optus $2 Mobile Broadband SIM - 5c (Don't know if we can activate it as a mobile phone???)

    Drug dealers of Australia rejoice!

    • But how do you register it without your own ID?

      • Go to your local ID forgerer.

      • I don't know, but I'm pretty sure it can be done if you have enough eneloops!

        looks at you

  • Anyone able to get one from any NSW store..?

  • +10

Why are there so many upvotes when no one's even gotten one/been able to get one?

    • +3

People will spend an inordinate amount of time to nab a bargain. 3600+ clicks for a picture of the special and 90 up votes. Seriously, I try to imagine what I could accomplish if I wasn't on OzB so much, but I do love it!

  • +1

    None at Chatswood NSW!

    • I saw you there. :)

You were the azn guy, right?

      • BwaHahah… maybe but I didn't see anyone around except a couple picking digital photos.

  • +1

Only a few available at OP store. Should not be a bargain as not enough stock

  • +2

I will buy 10 of these so that when my Samsung Galaxy sh-ts me, I can throw a $4 phone at the wall instead of a $400 dollar phone.

But the 64 million dollar question is, which phone lags more?

    • +1

      Block-quote which phone lags more?

Depends how fast you throw them and at what angle.

      • +3

And the reference frame of the observer.

    • @justtoreply

You are still using a Samsung Galaxy S?

      • Yep.

I'll admit, I'm using an S3 which would be even slower. I will probably tolerate it for a long time because I don't think my ideal phone exists. FM radio + Bluetooth Low Energy + Good headphone DAC + Android 4.4

M8 would do it I think.. but I already bought two faulty ones :(

    • I hear ya.
Had a s4 and after 6 months was shittinnng me.
Now moved to Xperia Z2 and I'm in Android heaven :)))

      • Have had an s5 since July, considering the hardware it runs it should be much faster

  • No Stock Kardinya, WA

  • +1

am at the store right now. no stock.

  • +1

Kmart has PS3 12gb consoles for $129 is that cheap or not?

    • Add the cost of a 500GB HDD to install yourself. 12GB isn't enough for quite a few games.

  • +3

all these people liking this deal, anyone actually bought it?

    • Its an OzB thing.

  • No stock at Indooroopilly, Toowong and Mt Ommaney. I think the deal is gone.

    • Oh no, I was ready to go..!

    • Lol, we must live close by :P

  • No Stock in Rowville. I called and asked.

  • Is is unlockable?
There should be one on ebay I reckon.

    • Try the Optus mobile unlocker first. The last time i bought an Optus Xperia E1 from Kmart (a few months ago) it spat out an unlock code for free from the IMEI number.

      https://secure-unlock.com.au/ou/launch

And to think i paid $60 for the Xperia E1. What a big price drop.
