Was going to cancel my edge card due to annual fee increase. Then decided not to coz all these cash back offers

    • +8

Should've just jumped on another Amex deal

    • How much is it going up to?

      • cash8 was probably only paying $149. I think they kept existing customers at $149 for an extra year after they raised the fee to $199. I'll certainly be keeping my platinum edge after the initial year was free. I redeemed the free flight for tickets that Virgin was charging over $500 for.

        • +1

Yeah, the Platinum Edge still offers pretty good value @ $199. I got the free CBA one with 40,000 points (still waiting for points to be credited) recently, and also have the Discovery Amex. The bonus points offered under Platinum Edge don't apply since I hold the Discovery Amex which is making me hesitate. :/

      • Those on $99 -> $149
        Those on $149 -> $199
I wonder if those getting bumped up to $149 will get another $50 increase next year.
The statement credit tends to cover the fee's. The free return flight certainly does.
Their customer service is worth it too, so much easier & helpful then banks.

    • Haven't they just released a free card? It even looks like a charge card.

Or you can get the CPA Gold Credit Card w no annual fee.

  • Are CBA issued Amex cards eligible for amex statement credits? It won't let me register my card but reading the conditions it indicates that it should be OK.

That Rebel credit could come in handy.

    • +1

Yup - I have used several Amex offers with my CBA Plat

      • Thanks might contact amex support

      • I think I was doing this wrong. Do I basically just click the link above, then register my card details and that is it?

I think I was trying to register for something else on the amex page when it wasn't working. I'm an idiot.

        • +1

          Yeah :)
You can also register for an account on Amex Connect and you can see all the offers available to you.
          https://network.americanexpress.com/connect/au/en/default.ht…

        • Thanks, I registered for that now too. I was previously trying to register for amexconnect on my mobile and it kept rejecting it. But it worked fine on my desktop.

          Thanks for your help :)

I also got body shop 50/10, qantas 700/100
    Plat reserve

  • I just registered my cba amex for the dymocks offer without any problems.

    • ANZ card not eligible for dymocks only. All others are ok, but had to use manuaal links

  • +3

I got a qantas offer of spend $700 and get $100 back. Don't know how to link it..

    • might be targeted. I got that too.

    • spend $700 or more on eligible Qantas flights on their registered Card online at www.qantas.com or at an Australian travel agency, in one or more transactions

How would Amex know that you paid for a Qantas flight at a Travel Agency?

  • +3

Reading the terms and conditions of the Dymocks one, it seems that Gift Card purchases count

Any one of them sell visa/mastercard prepaid cards?

  • Can I use this deal more than once?

    • +1

You can only use it ONCE per retailer per card.

    • Normally, you can only use it once per card. I didn't know this before and had 3 lunches thinking I'd still get $10 back for $20 meal lol. Experience always comes at a price

  • Fantastic, just bought some books from Dymocks for the kids, postage was $6 though.

I wonder if you ring up and threaten to cancel if they'll waive the new annual fee coming in

Signed up 3 Amex cards for Rebel sport and went in for a look today.

Grabbed an item, and when I went to the counter, the CSR asked for a 'hundred'

I asked him to split it in two - paid 50 with one Amex, then he put the second part in as 49.99

Realising that the 100 dollar item was actually 99.99 I asked him if he could change it to 50. He said sorry, the system isn't set up that way.

Here is where it got interesting. I proceeded to pay 49.99 on my visa debit card, and he then proceeded to refund the whole 99.99 onto the visa debit.

So back to square one, he changed the price to 100 and asked for two payments of 50, which went through on my two remaining Amex cards.

    3 cards, 3 emails.

Total cost for $100 item: $40 (after 3 x statement credits.)

      you are a real oz-bargainer!!!

      • Thanks mate. More blind luck than anything else. But I'm not going to complain.

  • Thanks

I have an Amart gift card I need to use :P

Rebel giftcard purchase doesn.t qualify for amex $20 offer..

    • After purchasing a $50.00 Rebel giftcard on Friday no confirmation reward email was received, so thought the same thing. Happy to say that $20.00 credit from that store appeared on Sunday.

  • Can confirm that unlike the David Jones statement credit, the Dymocks one has an e-mail confirmation once you qualify for the offer. Bought a Dymocks Gift Card along with some stationery from the Sydney CBD store.

    • Anything good at Dymocks apart from books?

      • The Sydney CBD store has DVDs from SBS and ABC (I think ABC; definitely SBS), knick knacks for your Kris Kringle presents and there's also a stationery shop next door you can claim the statement credit on if you pay on the books side.

  • Would a gift card purchase still quality even if the terms and conditions say not? I only ask as the item is out of stock at amart sports, and being an in store offer only, I was going to buy a gift card to use online. I'm not sure how Amex would know if a gift card was purchased or not. Thanks.

    • Worked at rebel. Should work at amart?

      • I'll give it a go and post the results! Thanks mate.

        • It worked, got the email immediately after my purchase!
