Android: TomTom Go 20% off Unlimited Subscriptions (3yr $45.99)

30

The TomTom Go Android app is very good, being very similar to their Go 510/610 devices with regular map updates, POIs, live traffic and speed cameras. I've been hoping they would discount their subscriptions for Christmas- and they have!

1yr subscription is currently $19.99
3yr subscription is currently $45.99

Subs are purchased from within the app:

  • How is it when there is no data connection? I do miss the live speed display in google maps.

    • currently using them to drive around canada, been excellent so far. sometimes the route it chooses is strange and the "choose alternative route" option will take you back 100km on the road you just drove on instead of taking another exit..

      • Is this tom tom go or the older version?

        • Go

        • I don't think you can buy the old one any more, which was also specific to the country map you wanted. Whereas this new app works the same as their GO 2013+ devices and are "global" so you can download every country map available. (But possibly only a limited number at the same time)

    • Good as the maps run offline without a data connection. You download the map(s) you want as part of the first time set up when you launch the app, and it notifies you when there is a map update but waits until you have WiFi to download it. (You can override this and use your mobile data if you want to though.) So you'll just miss out on their live traffic and speed camera updates.

  • How does this compare to Google maps. G Maps also allows local offline download now..

  • Sygic's World maps is a better offer imo..

30 Euro's on special at the moment (same price as this TomTom) for a lifetime license and updates with maps to dozens of countries including Australia / NZ, SE Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe, North America and South America etc.

Alternatively, can go with Nokia's HERE Maps for free including navigation.

What's wrong with Microsoft Here Maps? Download the region you want for offline use, free no data GPS. You also have live traffic if you leave your data connection on and want that specifically, speed zone reminders and POI's. Works great for me!

Microsoft never owned "Here" maps - they bought Nokia's Mobile division but nothing else.. Still belongs to Nokia but they will be sold off to a car manufacturer consortium soon (even though they are making good money and revenue)..

  • Once you've paid for the subscription can you use it on any Android device with your Google Play account attached to it? i.e. like with an application you purchase.

I know some apps like Nine (Exchange client) seem to work this way. Once you've upgraded in the app, it seems to always know you've upgraded on any device.
