If you are going to get a griddle I would suggest the double sided one instead.

You can use the corrugated side for steaks and the other side for hot cakes, eggs etc. We've had one of these for about 20 years and we use it a lot.

    • Wow that's expensive.. I got one from Aldi for $20.. http://offers.kd2.org/en/au/aldi/pjTb/

    • Le Creuset is like the Rolls Royce of cast iron. Not sure if there can ever much discernable difference between hunks of unenammelled cast iron.

I would just get this for $99, albeit slightly smaller..

le creuset vs lodge seems to be a common "battle" on the interwebs.

        Two things:
        a) When I bought this thing 20 years ago there wasn't the plethora of copies that are around now days
        b) This griddle has been rock solid for 20 years and should be rock solid for the next 20 years. Will the Aldi one be the same, don't know?

When it comes to cookware/crockery/cutlery I buy quality and buy to last. Trident knives, Magimix food processor, Kitchener mixer, Riedel wine glasses, Fissler pots, Corelle plates. I look after my stuff - good glassware, kitchen knives and saucepans are hand washed and dried. I've used lesser quality in the past and it warps, rusts or breaks down. The good stuff costs more upfront but lasts longer and reduces my carbon footprint as I'm not throwing stuff out all the time; also the stuff is usually more enjoyable to use because it is designed properly.

  • Looking to replace my plastic chopping boards. Anyone know if the Catskill - Bamboo Chopping Board Set 3pce are any good?

I have a bamboo chopping board (cheap) as well as another type of chopping board made of softer wood. I somehow find it more pleasurable cutting on the one with softer wood as I find the bamboo board too hard to cut on. It's hard to explain but imagine using a sharp blade that still slips once you reach the wood as opposed to a satisfying grip when you cut.

Kinda like wooden chopping boards vs glass chopping boards.

      • Hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the response foggy10.
