    Thanks arthy90, but I like my junk mail. :)

    May be useful for those who want to keep their letter box clean.

  • bankstown council gave em out years back but no one payed attention to it and still shoved my mailbox full of junk

      In those cases the only way to avoid junk mail is to put the sticker over the letterbox opening ;-)

      Then again if we don't get junk mail we do risk missing out on more bargains! I need a sticker asking them to please deliver the catlogues on time -before- the sales start rather then five days after!

    I got one of these recently:

    http://www.catalogue.asn.au/distribution/contact.asp

    You have to send a stamped self-addressed envelope to get one. It's a high quality reflective sticker and it's stopped catalogues being stuffed in my box, but I do get the occasional leaflet from small operators who ignore 'no junk mail' signs.

    • Are they the ones which come with your letters?
      If they are they are delivered by Australia post and are sorted into your letters before delivery

  • If it's too much hassle to send off for this offer, I found mine for $2 in a variety store. It was a plastic sign though so I had to use contact adhesive to stick it to my box.

    Generally the advertisers are good at honouring it, except for the rogue operator or two.

    • If you look hard enough I think you can even find these in most Woolworths.

  • If this is how the actual sticker looks like:

    Then it will hardly get noticed. Why not use some tradition and easy to read font?

  • how about no door to door sales person :S

      I have actually seen a house with a sign on the front door that reads something along the lines of:

      To avoid any kind of abuse, please don't bother knocking if you are
      * a sales person
      * collecting surveys
      * fund-raising
      * asking for a donation
      * from a religious sect
      * …
      * …
      * my complaining neighbour

      P/S I have a big dog.

      I LOL'ed. Almost felt like knocking on the door and run, but I value my life too much. Should have taken a picture. :)

      • You should have taken a picture and posted it somewhere. :)

  • But how will we find out about bargains with no junk mail:-P

  • Thanks! But i love my junk mail.

    Let me get this straight. A junk mail company is giving out "No Junk Mail" stickers in return for adding my name to a junk mailing list?

    Am I missing something, or is this just sucker bait?

    • +1

      Na, sounds like a redirection of post box junk mail to ur inbox with the branding 'its green'.

    • Its an attempt to get you to sign up to their online newsletter but not a requirement of the offer

    • +1

      Well if they have your name and address it's not Junk is it as you've opted in!

      Spot on.

    Why print when you can read it online! I like it. Thanks!

    I'm going to get one and put it on my work laptop, see if it stems the tide of pointless emails I get from other employees…

    I had this exact idea for a website :(

    I was going to use online distribution, email lists, rss feeds of advertisements/brochures from your suburb and offer anyone who signed up a free 'id prefer my junk mail through green junk mail' sticker.

    My reasoning behind it is junk mail shouldn't be necessary in todays internet society, living in a unit complex there's always crap strewn all over our driveway. I still want to read this junk mail though, as there's often coupons for local store that save me money, but most of it is stuff I am not interested in. If it was online I could save the mess at our mailbox, quickly view it each day, only print what I want, and also I was planning to make the site have a sort of favourites/training system - when you view/print a certain advert it remembers that I like lennards chicken for example, and will show me similar offers more predominantly, rather than have me sift through stuff I don't want. The key part to this would be getting business on board, my plan was to emphasise one suburb at a time - the more people that have greenjunkmail on their mailbox, the more likely businesses in that suburb are going to accept that they should switch to online.

    It's funny how so many ideas can be had by 2 different people at the same time. I'm glad someones at least doing it, in future I should spend less time overthinking my ideas and more time just doing them I guess. Good luck to them!

    • Australia Post are already trialling `virtual letterboxes' (it's done overseas) so don't worry this is a well advanced plan already. I work in a direct marketing business and we've been keeping our eyes on it too.

    Junk mail isn't even good for burning, its plastic coated and just takes up space.

    • that site is good but it doesn't stop people from sending out junk mail in the first place

  • It is a good freebie if you don't like junk mail… But I like it :O If I'm not interested in it, I put it in the bin, isn't too much effort!

    • thats the idea of the site, people like you - the idea (well at least my goal) was to one day have everyone get their junk mail online rather than waste paper in the mailbox, that way you still get it if you want, but without hte rubbish!

  • What do you put on your mailbox if you don't want to receive any of the local newspapers?

    I have a "no junk mail" sticker which doesn't seem to work, but i've never seen any
    "no newspaper" stickers to buy.

      Just write/print one and stick it on with tape. Works just as well - if they choose to take notice.
