OP, would be really nice if you guys could manage this deal every month or two here.

    • +4

Not if people abuse it by buying cheap shit for under a dollar each.

      • +1

You can't blame people I reckon, but a minimum of $20 or $30 seems very decent.
Maybe a free catalog too, prior to next years coming out would be a good deal.
I always have pottered with electronics, love it. Only zapped maybe a few times seriously. Excellent ;->)

Am I the only one that finds Jaycar to be far more expensive than everywhere else?

    • Depends on what you are buying. If you want some electronic components or similar, or a few metres of speaker cable, where can you go that is cheaper?

But for things like flashlights and toy helicopters, I agree with you, they are just purchasing from China and adding 300% markup.

      • Altronics

    • I know what you mean!

Bought 4 gold plated bananna plugs from an australian ebay seller for the same price for 1 from Jaycar

and the service in store is crap

      • +2

My local store (werribee VIC) has great service, they even gave me something for free once.

      • Melton Jaycar are really great

Where is this "everywhere else" that you refer to?
They're the only bricks and mortar shop in Canberra.

I understand that that is less relevant to this deal because you're getting stuff delivered, so the only advantage is delivery time, but for actually having a store, I think we should support jaycar. Look what happened to dick smith. Soon we won't have any stores we can pop down to on a weekend for supplies half way through a project. That's going to suck. So to combat that, I think it's honestly worth paying a little extra just so jaycar doesn't die out. Depending on what for. You obviously wouldn't pay double for a drone, but many things are reasonably priced at jaycar.

Obviously everywhere else isn't going to include the small cities and random ass town in whoop whoop.

So where would be some examples in Sydney or Melbourne?

        • @Frig: Ask someone that lives there.

        100% agree.

I'm not disagreeing with buying locally. I haven't even mentioned buying online/overseas.

There are a few local shops in my city that are the same or cheaper. AFAIK they're local franchises or independent.

That's fantastic. Even better to support an independent.

        • @Frig: 3 users don't seem to think that.

I don't think there is many stores left selling bits and pieces. Its handy to pop in and get something even if its a bit more.
For brand name parts they don't stock online is only option. Hope they do stick around.

Jaycar is pretty handy when i'm in a pinch. There's two near me and they both have fantastic customer service and staff actually know what they're talking about (Fairy Meadow and Shellharbour NSW).

Yeah you can get them cheaper online, but when you're working on a Sat afternoon and you need a terminal block, some oddball HF Socket, diodes or an 8 pin DIP socket.. you thank your stars that there's a brick and mortar store with these components nearby!

p.s. don't really agree with people wasting time buying little items just to take advantage of their free shipping. It's behaviour like this that puts sellers off having promotions.

  • Sweet. Anything one should absolutely buy? I am looking at a mains power meter so I can check out how much electricity some of my stuff uses. Anything else?

  • Just bought a Nibbling tool to use as a Fret Tang Nipper for when I renew the frets on an
Electric Guitar I just bought off Ebay. The seller didn't mention about the dings and wear in them(of course).
$14.95 pretty good deal I reckon.

Also bought the budget Vernier Calipers for $10.95 to measure the fret size so I can buy similar fret wire to suit.
These look better than the plastic Vernier Calipers I saw in Supercheap yesterday for around the same price.

    Happy as… :)

    Thanks OP.
