        • Yeah he said they successfully did it at least twice. But like I said, you'd have to get lucky with an inattentive cashier.

        • no luck at SA Kilkenny stkre

          @fatming:
At what stage of the actual transaction is the attendant required - specifically for self service when they need to authorise the gift card or load value on to it. Is it before payment ? Or after payment ? Would think its before based on attendant saying no but just wanted to confirm

        • +1

          @cheapfab:

At my stores, attendant has to load value (self serve flags an attendant straight away) and then each stayed until payment was made to swipe and activate the card.

        • @cheapfab: can't do it at self serve

  • +4

    So, in summary..
The big w Christmas gift cards can be used also at woolworths, woolworths petrol etc etc, the same as a regular wish card, and aren't restricted to big w only usage?

    • +4

      Yes

      • Didnt someone have a problem with the Cashier at Masters earlier but was ok with Masters ONLINBE?

        • +1

the BigW cards work at Masters both in store and online.

  • +2

Tried the gift card "loop" today.
Bought a $200 BIg W gift card ($180) as soon as I walked in, then used it to buy a $50 Ticketmaster gift card ($45) and another $100 Big W gift card ($90). No problems!

    • was the 2nd transaction through self service or through the same person/way as the $200 card?

      • first time through self service, 2nd time through "regular" checkout, either way they need staff to activate it.

        • -2

          Why not a 3rd round? :)

  • +1

If you can't find the cards in store, then try the customer service as they had some behind the counter. They were 'A BIG W GIFT FOR YOU' cards and not the Xmas ones, but they were same 10% off. Then straight to Woolies for my weekly grocery shop. Yee haa!

    • I've been to a couple stores and one was very low in cards. There might have been more behind the counter.

    • Could u pls upload a photo?

      • +1

Plain card with 'A BIG W GIFT FOR YOU' across the front of it.

    • South land had no big W cards. Found some at the nearby Ww. Took them to big W and got 10% off.

      • So you shop lifted?

        • Technically the card got $0 value so you shoplifted $0 !!!

      • +2

Southland shelves were out this morning, but they are the decorations on their Christmas trees around the store - so can grab them off.

  • And you can pay with it on the 10% off Family and friends deal saturday and sunday. 20% total!!!

    • Dont think both will stack together as someone tried it last time 10% off Family and Friends deal.

      • That's from the promotion. Nothing stopping you using a gift card as a payment method.

        • yes, that's right, we're talking about 2 different things. Of course u can buy BigW merchandise equating to 19% off the price of the goods, as snuke mentions below. But the F&F discount can't be used to buy gift cards, which is kind of what this thread's about, ie. how to end up with gift cards usable across the group. Mind you, if anyone could be bothered, they could buy the goods and return them and get a voucher which should be usable across the WW group. But if someone wanted to do that, they might as well try the "loop".

    • If it did work, it would be 19%, not 20%. It does of course equate to 19% off products you end up buying with the gift card.

    • +1

Applied 10% family and friends code in store today and no additional discount on Big W card was given.
Just got the 10% discount for loading $100 or more.

If you do want to buy stuff from Big W this weekend then get the Big W card first at 10% off and then go back into the shop and pick whatever shopping you want then apply family and friends 10% discount at checkout and pay with the Big W gift card you just purchased (for 10% off). Some exclusions apply.

  • I was able to go in store and charge 2 cards with $300 each. Then pick up $600 of JB Hi-Fi gift cards and go back and buy them with the gift cards I'd just bought. None of the cards I had were able to scan though so the super nice girl behind the counter had to manually type in each one of their numbers.

I then went to JB and bought a $50 gift card for $20 off my next $100+ purchase.

    Sweet.

Just bought 3k worth with Amex. That's 300 bucks off and enough velocity points to get to Sydney. Score.

  • Also would like to add that as with a physical Wish card, a physical Big W gift card can also be used at a DSE store (just tried today). However, DSE Online has stopped accepting WOW group gift cards since last weekend, so you would need to convert your wish/big w gift card (or Coles Myer gift card for that matter) to a DSE gift card to purchase online, assuming you obtained either card with a discount.

Please note: Masters gift card cannot be used at other WOW stores unlike Big W, Wish, Dan Murphy's, etc, so avoid getting one if there are better deals out there such as this deal posted here.

  • Can you use wish gift card to purchase bigw gift card?

    • +2

      Answered already about 48,648 times.

      • Was looking for the info from this thread. Unity1 said he is going to take an attempt to do wish to bigw gift card and his answer is on $10 off $100 scoopon woolies wish card deal.

He said no, and you also said no.
However, according this thread it is really depends on a person approving it.

        Did I get it right?

        • +1

there is no definitive answer…..hit and miss from the multitude of scenarios put forward….if the checkout person allows it, you win.

        • @Coops1: cool thanks :)

        • I said no, when, I would have said yes as I have done so several times int he past.

  • +1

It's 10% off big w only gift cards over $100. e.g.buy $100 for $90. Some staff members will let you purchase other gift cards with them, but most won't. It's general store policy to not allow gift cards to be used to purchase other gift cards.
    Been there, done that.

    • +1

wife just purchased a $100 card for $90 using a wish card (which was 5% off from RAA) - i.e. we paid $85.50 for a $100 card.

      • +2

        That's a keeper right there….

  • $100 bigw card or $100 wish card? 10% discount on $100 wish card as well?

    • Big W. See the catalogue

      • unless they run out, and then they give you a woolies group card

    • +2

Tried this today, purchased a $100 Big W gift card and a $100 Wish gift card at the same time. 10% Discount only applied to Big W card. So cost was $190 for 2 x $100 gift cards.

      • +1

I read elsewhere that the Big W card works at Woolworths - so why get a wish card?

        • +2

Because argonbay is so kind to do the test in person and reported it back here.

        • Hi fredblogs, this was a test purchase. Some comments had indicated that a $100 Big W gift card purchase meant 10% off for other items purchased at the same time. Also applied the family and friends 10% discount at the same time as reported above.

An email was sent to big W staff on 16/12/2015 that gift cards cannot be paid with digital gift cards due to fraudulent activity.

I was refused and asked to see the email which she did.

    • Damn. Thanks for the update. So the early lucky ones got away with it, but looking like almost impossible now… Scoopon deal https://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/67953/-100-wish-egift-card-… just got tastier…

    • +5

So you were shown the email? What did it say? Especially the part about "fraudulent activity" - that's what we'd be interested to hear because the only "fraudulent activity" that could be taking place is with respect to the initial purchase of the digital cards. For sure there are ample fraudsters around who'll attempt to buy digital cards by fraudulent means (CC fraud etc.) - but if the initial purchase of a digital card is legitimate, then attempting to purchase a gift card with that legitimate digital card will never be "fraudulent". It can only be "in compliance" or "not in compliance" with the rules governing the program.

    • Care to share what it said in the email

      • More or less it was 2 lines.

Due to fraudulent activities, gift cards can no longer be purchased using digital gift cards.
Physical gift cards can only be purchased using cash, eftpos and credit card payments

It was among other updates they had on the system

        • +1

And in reality this should be the case, cannot believe this was not implemented by BigW in the 1st place. Otherwise it only takes an initial $100 cash which after 96 stacked transactions turns into 1 million dollars of BigW cards. I am sure there are a few who have tried this. Goodluck to those that did it, BigW's stupid fault.

        • @Coops1: You need 2000 cards of $500 to hold 1 million,not realistically possible.Surely more than 96 transactions,maybe 10 cards capped per transaction.

        • @Coops1:

Otherwise it only takes an initial $100 cash which after 96 stacked transactions turns into 1 million dollars of BigW cards.

By my calculations it would only take $90 compounded 89 times.

        • @Scrooge McDuck:

Redid my excel, 97 times to make 1.035m

          Start on 100 in A1, B1=SUM(A1/10+A1) aka 110
          A2=SUM(B1)…B2=SUM(A2/10+A2) aka 121
          Fill down
          1 100 110
          2 110 121
          3 121 133.1

          @Coops1:
          @Scrooge McDuck:

Whoops, your right 89 it is…..divide by 9 instead of 10 eh!
          Trans Outlay Card Value
          1 $90.00 $100.00
          2 $100.00 $111.11
          3 $111.11 $123.46
          89 $956,977 $1,063,308

        • So does that mean you cant buy another store gift card using Big W gift card anymore? or this only applied to Big W gift card to Big W gift card trick?

    • Might try at self checkout tomorrow before they update the POS

    • I managed to change over anther $900 worth of egift to physical today, I kept $94 for another $100 card purchase.
What I did do, that is off, is buy physical gift card with another physical gif card. I had a $500 card, purchased a PS4, a cable and a $150 gift card. It went through with no issue, but I won;t be trying that again.

  • Bought a PS4 and some extra spare gift card credit that I will most likely use to top up my Opal transport card at Woolworths supermarket. Looks like Woolworths Group got my sale/money today.

  • I think that it is a great offer as it stands. I don't see why people have to abuse it! Those who are buying gift cards with gift cards will "squeal like stuck pigs" if their cards are cancelled due to improper transactions.

    • +1

      where's the fun in that?

  • Woolies have some special going on with their 3rd party gift cards. I always just get the self check out person to activate it before I go to the pay screen. They are too busy to care at QV.

  • Went to counter with trolley of goods & and empty giftcard. Loaded-up $200 on gift card for $180… then used it to buy plenty of stuff, like Pyrex on 30% sale.

    That's like $285 of goods for $180… 37% discount

    Score… thanks!

  • The physical Good Guys Gift Card that I saw are all $50 cards. Surely it won't require activation?

  • +1

Couldn't get 10% off everything buying $100 of BigW and $900 of Wish……so
bought $1000 of BigW cards tonight for $900, then bought $1000 of WISH cards straight after at the same cashier :)

    • +4

Physical Big W GC equals to Wish GC,being tested by many people already.

  • Does anyone know if you can use multiple gift cards to make a purchase on Masters online or in store?

    • +1

You can use multiple gift cards instore.

      I don't know about online.

  • When does this 10% off end?

    • 24/12/15

      • I thought it would be was hoping it was still on for Boxing Day I am worried getting them now and not getting the item I want on the day.
It be great to get more off the Boxing Day price and this would have be ideal.

There seems to be all sorts of deals right now with cards etc not sure which ones are best.
I may also be looking to get something from jb hifi and wondered how I can get item there for less with these gift cards.

  • Does anyone know if you can buy 4 x $30 gift cards and still get the 10% off or does it have to be 1 x gift card of $100 or more?

    • I think it needs to be one card over $100, but you could buy a $120 card for $108, then use that to buy 4x $30 cards. Assuming they let you. My local hasn't said anything the ~8 times that I've bought gift cards with gift cards. They don't even know what card I'm paying with until it's been processed. Ie, they say "$90 thanks", I say "on my card please" (could be credit card for all they know), they activate the eftpos machine and I swipe a gift card. They generally don't see the card because of where the machine is positioned, but then it comes up saying $10 balance, so they can tell after the fact, but no one has said anything and by that point it is too late anyway.
