Sooo, you could buy bigw gift cards at 10% off then use the gift cards to by jb hifi gift cards?.

    • hmmm i don't believe so, i know Myer cards have it in the t&c, but dont know about Big W to be honest :)

  • not seeing the deal here O_o

  • Damn, can I get a refund from Groupon for the 7.5% off BigW cards I bought last week?

    • +7

You can use the Groupon's eGift card to pay for this one, even better.

      • +2

Yeah if you have it, mine not sent yet

      • How would that work, say you buy a $100 card from groupon for 92.50 (I Assume that's roughly what he paid) - you then buy a new $100 card with your coupon.

Would you end up with 2 cards, one with $10 remaining on it, that cost you only 92.50 + a $100 card? So $110 total for 92.50

        Is my maths right here?
Like, seems kinda inconvenient to be stuck with the spare card but I spose it makes sense.
        OR

Could you buy a $110 card somehow, with your $100 card (that originally cost you $92.50)?

        • +1

          How about this?
Go to groupon from pricepal.com.au which have 5% cashback and buy $100 big w giftcard for $92.5 and buy a woolworths e-giftcard for of worth $110 from Big W store? Its too complex. At the end you pay $87.5 for $110 value which is too good. I can buy my opel recharge with this.

        • @neonixcoder: Not a bad idea, any idea on the expiry for the gift card and could the big w giftcard, be used to buy other gift cards, in future?

        • @neonixcoder: Also is there anything stopping you then using the new, $110 gift card, to buy another gift card? (ending up with 2? One with $10 change on it?)

        • @neonixcoder: $87.87

        • +3

@neonixcoder: "Please note that cashback will not be honoured on Groupon gift cards, including any Woolworths Group Gift Cards" http://pricepal.com.au/Groupon-Australia

        • @maverick:My bad. I did not checked it properly.

    • i thought it says buy $100 or more you will get 10% off the amount you purchasing?

      or am i wrong?

      • That's right.

    • No.

$90 for $100 gift card, or $99 for $110 gift card.

      That's better.

  • So do you have to buy the gift card first from big W to receive the 10% off (such as barcode on receipt) or is the 10% off included in the transaction if purchasing a gift card?

Also how much is the ps4 when full price?

    • 10% off would imply that the discount applies instantaneously.

    • +1

PS4 is $368. Gift cards are from Big W in store. I don't have any additional info about how it will be processed/barcode etc but the site should update with details soon.

    • I was wondering the same,

My interpretation from reading the text several times is you would buy the gift card and anything else in the transaction is 10% off

      OR

The receipt might have a barcode on it for 10% off next transaction

I would expect one of the two….

  • +7

It's not clear at all. Why aren't they simply saying save 10% on bigw gift cards valued $100 or more?

Could it be other gift cards on those pages are 10% off if you buy a $100 (or more) bigw gift card?

    • +7

      I'm going to go with
      - Buy a Big W gift card for >$100
      - Qualify for 10% off any of the other gift cards shown on that page

why? because vague descriptions usually end up being less of a bargain than they appear

      • +1

+1. Otherwise you could just keep re-using the Big W gift cards to buy another Big W card @ 10% off. They woke up to that a while ago.
Otherwise if it's true I am really annoyed, as I have already converted a "number" of EB egift BigW to Wish cards in the past week @ 7.5% off :)

      • I agree with you.

    • +1

It's on the back of the catalogue as well down the bottom, no other gift cards on that page, just $5 stocking fillers.

      • -2

Can you post up the full catalog detail. This cant be right. No deal here I am afraid

  • +1

One day I want to figure out exactly how to string combos together on bargains, so I can somehow buy a gift card 10% off with cashback to buy another 10% off gift card, to buy another and so on until I end up somehow with about $300 of gift cards for $100 - I'm positive one of you guys have eventually done this at some point.

    • +6

      Giftception…it hurts my head ><

      • +1

Well I myself kinda did something similar with the Dick Smith $15 cards for $10 (or was it $10 for $5?)
I religiously snapped the damned things up and ended up buying, IIRC 5 of them ($50) for $25 - I then paid $10 more on a pricematched GTAV (PS4) not long after launch - so I got GTAV a new game for $35 out of pocket.

I was pretty happy with that.
I'd like to snap up an Xbox One in 6 months somehow, with some really dillegent combo breaker bargain hunting, somehow combining discount upon discount and cashreward, to end up with some kinda sub $200 outlay, you know?
        One can hope.

    • +2

There was this one time where a major surfing company did $50 gift vouchers for $30 online. In the space of 30minutes my initial $30 investment multiplied to $190 in gift cards. Gift cards pay for gift cards. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/175928

      • So you bought a $50 card from them, then with the $50 bought another card and so on? From the same company tho?

        • Yes. That is correct. $50 at the start. Used that card to buy another $50 for $30. Rinsed and repeated.

      • +3

Once upon a time I've done similar giftcard inception with OO and the d*ck at that company cancel all the cards which is fine but they put a block on my accont without even telling me. All my orders now is automatically cancelled. Damn them.

  • Can someone confirm that big w physical card can be used at Woolworths? Not egiftcard.

    • +3

      Yes

    • +4

There are 2 types of BigW giftcard, the new one can ONLY be used at BigW. The old one has many WOW groups logo at the back and it can be used at Woolworths/Woolworth Caltex/Masters….

      • Are we sure this deal actually works on the old gift card and not just the new one?

  • The current price listed for the 500gb PS4 is $429 for the white and $479 for the black on the Big W website? Where is original price $368 from?

    • Starts Thursday, online is different to in store on certain items as it's sold by a third party online.

    • i was trying to figure out the same thing. I think $368 price starts on Thursday too?

    • Would like to know if this is big w online or in-store or ebay for 368 ? Catalogue only shows the 1tb uncharted combo?

      • +1

        Catalogue has not released yet.

  • As it is called a Big W gift card, then I would assume that it can only be used at Big W. I will buy some and wait for the next 'Big W Staff, Family & Friends Sale' to compound the savings.

    • -3

Can be used at every Woolworths associated store.

      • Are you 110% sure of this? I'd be careful making statements that aren't confirmed. IMO peck's assumption would be the right one.

  • -1

You can get most of these cards at 10%-15%-20% off during catalog sales. Waste of time buying a BigW card to get the discount….

    See here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/225198#comment-3292025

removing my +ve……the Original Post is misleading/incorrect
eg: There is NO PS4 @ $331.20 after discount

    • But is it a catalog sale right now?
Like why not buy these cards now for 10% off, then when a catalog sale comes up, use your existing card to buy the next one, stacking them?

      • +1

Your not getting the BigW cards @ 10% off, only 10% off the Good Food/ Best Restaurant / Ticketmaster ones…..as I said NO DEAL here, post should be removed

        • Nah, not removed yet.

Maybe not crystal 100pc clear, but as others have said, it looks like::

          • Buy a Big W gift card for >$100
          • Qualify for 10% off every dollar over $100
            eg $100 BigW card = $90, $120 card = $108 etc…
        • I agree that it's not clear but the 10% off other gift cards are separate to the BIG W 10% off deal.

        • +2

Can confirm that you can buy big w gift card for 10% discount and then use the big w gift card to buy Ticketmaster gift cards @ 10% off, which is effectively 19% off Ticketmaster gift card, and that is probably as good as it will get (the cheapest deal so far from my recollection was the 15% off Ticketmaster gift cards @ Target back in September https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/209703). All other gift cards on offer had 20% at some stage (e.g. $10 off the next purchase when purchasing $50 or more of the selected gift cards @ Woolworths).

    • OP has changed. edited to avoid confusion.

  • +5

I can't quite work out exactly what this deal is… It's worded so badly.

  • +1

    after Discount

What is this discount you speak of?

  • This is very confusing.

  • +4

Only an Asian like me that don't speak and write English properly, understand this offer, it is only for gift cards that sell at BigW, so all Wish Gift Cards, Dan Murphy, BigW, Caltex etc from Woolworth group gift card will be excluded.

  • +5

Im confused about where the confusion is here. I read it to say gift cards of value 100$ and up will be priced 10% cheaper. So a 100$ gift card will cost $90 to purchase. a $500 gift card will cost $450 to purchase. Is this not the most logical way to interpret it?

    • +1

Finally someone else who gets it!

      • …..it wrong :)

    • No it's 10% off the gift cards shown, eg Myer when you purchase a big w gift card $100+.

    • +2

Well… The reason for the confusion is this; The offer says "10% off _____ when you spend $100 or more on a big W gift card". Now, no one really knows what goes into the blank.

Your interpretation is that it reads "10% off the big w gift card". While most of us feel that it reads "10% off the above gift cards". Then there are others like Coops1 who feel that it means "10% off your purchase when you spend $100 or more on a big W gift card".

The question is therefore, 10% off what?

      • There is no blank, but it is open to interpretation due to the language used.

  • This seems quite good and you get the physical card as well.

I think there will be boxing day sales after the 24th December Catalogue ends, which means you can stack that discount with half price frypans and the usual. (This might help if you are deciding whether you will use $100)

  • How long does activation of a physical card usually take? Instant?

    • +1

      Instant

    • Which card? Myer is overnight (as i found out the other day). JB is straight away.

      • I've heard reports that say JB takes 24 hours.

The Wish cards and Big W cards are usually instant but it does say on the activation paperwork that it can take up to 48 hours to work.

  • Ok I'm reading it as you get 10% off a BIG W gift card itself when you get a card worth 100 or more… Which is why there's a picture of the big w card and why they gave the note saying you can load up any amount you want.

Not 10% off other gift cards (anything other than a big w card eg myer, ticketmaster etc)

But that would just add an extra step to the conversion. Buy a $100 big w gift card for $90,then use that card to buy any other card

    • If so, is it confirmed you can use the Big W gift card to buy another type of gift card?

  • +1

Ok, now I am reading it as per the amended post………You get 10% off $100+ worth of items when you buy them with a BigW gift card. There is no 10% off the BigW gift card at any point.

So those that have the 7.5% off BigW cards, will get the 10% off items they purchase worth $100 or more.

Thanks OP for amending, it makes sense. Note: Needed +1's laypersons read of the catalog pic.

Basically like 10% off store wide, but limited to using BigW cards.

Let's see if this is close….so many opinions out there.

    • +6

I think out of all of the theories yours is the most off :P

    • I kinda hope not as I just converted $2,500 worth of the Big W eGiftcards from the recent Groupon deal to physical Wish gift cards today.

      • Yes, but you like me (@$2200) intend to use them at Woolworths, not BigW??? You cant spend $2500 @ BigW???

        • I personally don't shop at Big W except for the odd chocolate (or toy) sale as there is almost nothing else I want to get from there. Woolworths on the other hand…

        • +1

@danielh: I can 100% confirm that these Physical Gift Cards will work at Woolworth self checkout with no issues.

        • @danielh: so youve got $2,500 worth of verified woolworths credit? Damn!

Congrats!! id like to be a fly on your wall during christmas lunch; youll be cleaning your cutlery with Voss water!

        • -1

@rawm: I just bought another $1600 worth today. I first bought a $100 Big W test one and quickly went to Woolworths to buy some chocolate at the self check-out. Had no issues so bought another $1500 worth.

Total now is $2,500 of Physical WISH gift cards (converted from the Groupon eGiftCards) and $1,600 of the Big W Red ones.

  • +3

i got another one, just to add to the confusion. It could mean that you get 10% off your entire shop, if the transaction includes 100$ worth of gift cards.

So many possibilities. what a time to be alive.

I still think its just 10% off big w gift cards like it says.

  • +3

This is complete and pure speculation but is this a technique of getting funds into the company just before they are sold off to another company? What sort of affect do these types of transactions have on the balance sheet? They are going to get a huge influx of cash but will have to pay out a large amount of goods once the giftcards are redeemed, provided the theory about 10% discounted cards is correct.

  • I'll go in and ask them tomorrow what the deal is. I interpret it as 10% off the gift cards shown if you spend $100 on Big W gift cards. Because they aren't specific on what the 10% is off, it's implied that it applies to the gift cards shown in the ad… I think. Just like if 'x% off' was written on a page in an ad with TV's, it's implied that that applies to TV's.

  • +3

Surprised on how many upvotes even though the deal is still unclear. I guess 10% off something in bigw is good enough.

    • +1

Not really, 100% off something at Big-W is the way to go. Just spent the $10 they so generously gave (many of) their Woolworths Rewards members :-)

      • Same managed to get in twice too as first time went through the checkout they gave it too me manually as it wasn't working. Then went through the next day and got it properly!

      • Yep me too - but used the $10 to get 3x Brita filters for $20

    • I still don't know what the actual deal is

  • to get 10% off the purchase of your gift card you will need to buy a gift card to the value of $120 to keep it over the $100 requirement to qualify
"Saving you" $12 on $120 gift card.

At the top you get 10% off the $50 gift cards that are shown! that's it for $50 ones and no discount on under $50

So you will get 10% off a purchase over $100 - may still work with $100 purchase and you pay $90 at the counter.. will see when it goes live.
That's what it sounds like to me.

  • So this is really 10% off EVERYTHING in the store. Buy gift card in first purchase. Then buy any other product with the gift card.

  • I have an item that was on promo a week or so back store said getting more in but by then promo will have ended.
Manager said i get one at the sale price so need to see if that happens.
Item sale price will be $109"and im wondering how canci get it for less?
    Will it be worth it?
Do i buy gift vouchers on thursday or what?
Ewishgiftcards have 5% off all the time?
I would not want to be spending more than the $109 it is.
What does bigw card vouchers values come as?

  • +16

I just got off the phone with a BigW regional manager and theyve confirmed its a straight up 10% off BigW gift cards for anyone instore… $100 gift card can be bought for $90, $500 for $450 etc… then able to use it immediately for next transaction. Glad I held off on the 7.5% egift cards i nearly bought last week.

    • So if this item i have on hold if i go thursdsy and buy gift card for say 100 it cost me 90?
Do you need to buy card from bigw or anywhere if bigw only who to say they will have any or run out.
Just trying to figure out how i can get this item even less thats on hold.

    • Thank you DrBrazen! i just registered my account to vote you! called BigW several times to confirm this deal but never got through. did you catch the manager's name? so i can use it as a reference this Thursday visiting their store.

    • so DrBrazen, are you saying that this means you can buy a $100 BigW gift card for $90 and then use the BigW gift card to purchase a $100 Wish card (or other type of gift card) at a self service checkout?
