Will you be able to buy gift cards with these gift cards?

With $1000 you can get gift cards worth $1,111.11

If you can buy more Big W gift cards with this then that $1,111.11 will get gift cards worth $1,234.57

66 times through and you have a million dollars!

Of course with a $500 limit per gift card it'll take a while to load up
the total 20,957 gift cards you will have gone through on the way to your million dollars.

What can I get at Big W for a million dollars?

        • not sure if that was just an attempt at humour but the query wasn't about using it to buy the same type of card over & over, in an effort to compound the discount, which you'd have to think couldn't be done … but more about converting it (at face value) to another gift card within the same stable.

    • Thanks.

  • Anyone read what it says on the back of one of those "merry christmas" Big W cards as pictured in the catalogue?

I saw them last time I was in Big W but as I was looking to swap my Groupon Big W eGift for standard Wish Gift Cards didn't check them out.

Is it a standard wish card card?

Is it an essentials card card which cannot be used to purchase alcohol, tobacco products or Gift Cards.

    Is it something else?

    • Didnt read the back sorry… just saw them on the rack directly below the wish gift cards. Xmas theme with only a Big W logo on them. Just assumed no gift cards can be used for other gift cards, but ill certainly give it a crack on Thursday. I just confirmed I would be able to to walk in, get a gift card off the rack, walk up to the entertainment kiosk, put $500 value on it for $450 out of pocket, then buy a $368 PS4 with it.

        My plan:

Me: "I'd like to buy a Big W gift card please."

        Them: "How much?"

        Me: "$368"

Them: Ok, that'll be $331.20 please"

Me: "Can I pay that on my 3 separate paypass debit cards ($99 Each) and a credit card for the remainder"

        Them: rolls eyes

        Me: Pays

Me: OK, I'd like to buy a playstation 4 with my gift card please.

        • Actually why wouldn't you do the remainder as PayPass too? I'm assuming you're doing this for 2%/5% cashabck?

  • Are the christmas ones the same as the normal big w gift cards?

  • +4

I just went to bigw and checked the back of their Christmas gift card. Says that valid at all stores listed on wish cards website and terms and conditions on the same website. Looks like is a wish card after all.

    • +1

Now just need Groupon to send me the bloody codes. Well, everyday rewards to email the code, but bloody Groupon to get it organised.

  • So is there any chance we can buy these discounted gift cards with our Groupon BigW e-vouchers?

    • +1

well the question is who will be the first person to go to Big W tomorrow with a BigW voucher (bought via Groupon) to see if they can use it to purchase a Big W gift card (@ 10% off) … and report back here

      • +1

I will try tomorrow. I have a $500 wish card and will request to purchase a $555.56 Big W gift card (as long as there are no dodgy T&Cs)

        • probably better to first try yourself through the self service checkout.

        • +1

@maverick: Nah, I will go in armed with the required paperwork in case I meet any resistance. Also, that amount would require 2 different cards to be loaded with credit, so I may need an assistant anyway.

        • $500 is the max you can load a card, from the FAQ - https://everydaygiftcards.com.au/gift-cards/learn-more/faq

Can I purchase a Gift Card or eGift Card of any amount?

No, each card can be loaded once only with any value from $5 to $500 per card.

    • +2

I can confirm I used my Groupon Big W vouchers to buy the Big W gift cards in store today to get the 10% off.

500 is the max per card. Converted 900 egiftcards to $990 physical with a few dollars left on the ecards

      • Groovy, so in effect a 16.75% discount. If Groupon would get it done quickly, I would buy a couple of grand more. But it is now too risky. I ordered my groupon ones on the 10th, and got them last night, so if it repeated timeline, I would get them next Friday.

      • Great. Did you get any grief doing it or did the operator just do it no questions asked?

        • +3

nah she was alright. but it always depends on the person

        • +1

          @dontapoligize:

          Same no issue for me

        • @snuke:

Yep just did it myself no questions asked.. awesome!!

      • Are you then able to buy say Myer gift cards with the new Big W gift cards your purchased?

        • yup, definitely can

        • @dontapoligize:

Sweet thanks for that. Bought the 7.5% off ones to change to Myer cards to buy a new iPhone for the GF. Now I can spend some extra on her at Myer at the same time :P

        • @knobbs:

Depending on exactly what model you want, Big W are cheaper on iPhones, but they don;t stock them all.

        • @snuke:

Yeah GF wanted the 6s plus in 64gb, they don't seem to stock as 6s plus

        • +2

          @knobbs:

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just get a new GF?

  • This is interesting. Noticed something new on the everydaygiftcard website that was not there just a few days ago. See my comment here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/225761#comment-3301272

    • +1

It was there on the 12th….but yes it is newish..
      http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:https:/…

Glad I have converted all my BigW egift cards to WISH cards from the EB 7.5% off deal.
Not hopeful on converting WISH back to BigW (Still Wish, as stores are listed on back) for a nearly 15.9% overall discount, but will try my luck

      • I converted my egift cards on the 13th, but printed out all the documentation on 12th, and it was not there at that time. So very recent change.

  • +1

Not sure what the actual deal is but tried two stores and the cards don't scan at 10% off for anyone interested

    • Exactly which cards did you try?

    • +1

Apparently there is an email from head office saying they have been unable to get it loaded in the system yet. Maybe wait a couple of days or call before visiting the stores

  • +1

Sorry to clarify they still honoured it but it was a slow process and very manual. Staff were wonderful

    • Which store?

      • Newcastle NSW area

        • Thanks. Not my local area unfortunately

    • she must be new to the store

  • I know big w e gift card cannot be used at woolworths anymore but what about these Big W physical gift cards? I know BIG w gift cards woolies used to sell can be used in woolworths/Caltex/DM stores/BIG W stores

    • I converted my Big W eGift Cards to WISH Physical gift cards with no issues at the Big W Melbourne QV Building.

I will now try to purchase a $500 Big W red Gift Card with my WISH physical gift card tomorrow (Friday).

  • +3

You can use Big W cards in any other Woolworths store. Here is an image of the back of the Christmas card they show in the catalogue - http://i.imgur.com/c35K2JY.jpg

    • so that means there is no need to convert Big w cards to wish cards

  • So, how does this deal work? anyone bought it yet?

    • Look up.

    • Buy a card from $100 to $500, only pay 90% of the value

      • +2

Interesting post on WP - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2334917&…
Suggesting buying a card of 100% or more gives you 10% of EVERYTHING in the transaction, not just the Big W gift card.

        • so in that way you can buy 900 dollar worth of wish cards + 1x 100 dollar big w card and get 10% off and get it all together for 900?

      • This is the deal I got a couple of stores, but the link in the post above would make sense if that is what it is meant to be.

  • +1

I would be glad if someone (who is intending to make purchases at Big W), would kindly load a couple of extra dollars onto their gift card and try using their card at Wollies.

    • +3

Confirmed. Big w merry xmas card worked direct at Woolworths store

      • THANKS!

      • Will they work at the petrol station as well?

      • +1

can anyone confirm the BigW Merry Xmas card (10% off) has worked at Masters or any of the other stores listed as participating stores under Brand gift cards - https://everydaygiftcards.com.au/#

        • That is what the card says, as I posted earlier - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/225198?page=1#comment-3302…

        • +2

@snuke: yes, already seen that image. It doesn't change the question above. It "should" be ok but best to confirm before buying a pile.

        • @maverick:
I will be buying some tonight, and walking straight to Woolies to buy something.

        • @snuke: Woolies has already been confirmed. The question was about Masters and other stores in the WW Group that haven't yet been confirmed. The everydaygiftcards.com.au site is unfortunately littered with inconsistent information - so it's always best to test in practice. eg. the info at https://everydaygiftcards.com.au/gift-cards/learn-more/parti… "Where does my gift card work?" provides a different overview than the info contained in the "Brand" tab.

        • +6

          Confirmed working at Masters.

Checkout person said Big W only but I have just purchased a Dyson with it online instead.

Remember to stack it with code FRESH10.

        • @psychochicken:

Could you please confirm if it was the red BigW Merry Christmas giftcard?

        • @JLQC5899: yes, same one as pictured in the catalogue.

        • +1

@psychochicken: So only confirmed for Masters ONLINE but not at Masters Checkout?

        • @danielh:yep, tried online not at store.

        • @danielh: On reflection, it seems clear the Big W card (as well as the other "Brand" cards) will be accepted across the entire WW group. The "Brand" cards are effectively the same instrument as Wish cards - just different faces. It's clear from term 9. "Wish@Gift card T&C's apply to Big W Gift cards" and further, those T&C's make it clear that Brand cards & Wish cards are effectively treated as interchangeble in usage. https://everydaygiftcards.com.au/media/static/Docs/wish_tnc.… True, it will be nice when someone confirms successful usage of a BigW card in a Masters (physical) store - but there shouldn't really be any doubt that it will work.

        • can confirm that the BigW card works in physical Masters store - friend just made a purchase in store

  • +2

Discount now working at POS. Could not check out at self serve. Message to call for assistance came up on the screen.

    • Anyone success paying with the egift card from Groupon?

      • Or any egiftcard for that matter. I just got my Entertainment Book ones.

        • Successfully converted my Big W egiftcards to the Merry Christmas card today.

      • depends on store manager, some stores allow as far as I know

  • anybody confirmed that you can buy 900 dollar worth of wish cards + 1x 100 dollar big w card and get 10% off and get it all together for 900?

    • I just bought the big w cards, then used one to buy a 'Bras n Things' gift card. So still 10% off the 2nd gift card.

    • Can confirm that 10% discount only applies to the Big W card ($100 or more) and not to anything else purchased at the same time.

      • +1

This changed, my first purchase of them on Thursday gave 10% off to entire purchase, which at the time was next to nothing. On Sat it was just the card.

  • +1

it didn't scan at the discounted price at POS but they refunded me the 10% separately

    • It was same thing they did it with me. Did you pay with gift card or credit card?

    • What gift card did you purchase?

    • Same here. 2 x $500 Wish gift cards. Total was $1000.00. Charged me $900.00. The remaining amount was marked as $100 cash which she didn't take.

Thinking about it now, I think the promotion is only for Big W Merry Christmas gift cards, maybe that's why.

  • If you don't believe you will get 10%+ then scoupon’s is the one to order, valid at wow supermarket y/n for egiftcard?

Edit just noticed its eWish (scoupons 10%) so should be fine, cuts out travelling.

    • -1

      Limited to one purchase $100.

      • Limited to one -per account-. Nothing stopping you from making as many accounts as you want with a different email address.

  • Thanks OP. I used these big W cards to buy 1300 worth of JBHIFI and used this to get 10% off an iphone 6s plus at jbhifi. A nice saving off the 1379! Was a little annoying considering I had to get them in $50 bunches haha

    • +1

Why don't u buy the iPhone directly from Big w?

      • My local big w don't stock iphone 6s plus.

    • Where are the JB gift cards at Big W? I couldn't find them last time I was there. I too am trying to get the iPhone 6s plus at JB but could only find Myer cards at Big W

      • It was just in the area where all the other gift cards were. My big w only has 1000 worth, so I also bought 300 worth of everyday gift cards and then went to woollies and go the rest there. Didn't have any issues at all. I also went through cashiers. This was at pacific fair big w and pacific fair woollies and jbhifi

  • (Coles group & Myer) Gift cards
Gift Cards cannot be used to purchase gift cards, Recharge Vouchers or Mobile Plans.
    Woolworths group or WISH
3.3 When purchasing Physical Gift Cards at any WISH Gift Card Participating Store, payment can be made via cash, EFTPOS or credit card.

Some, not many, report exceptions, with clause 3.3 being flouted.

    • As far as I know they haven't programmed the registers to fit in with these conditions.

    • WW - WW Group appears positive on present system
We - Coles remains to be seen, or currently untested.

  • Thanks,OP.Great time to convert those 7.5% off Big W eGift Cards to Wish GiftCards.

    • Cheap cheap

    • he has the solution😶☝

    • -2

Have you tried to use egift cards to buy the big w cards?

  • What about Big W/Wish from e-Wish 100.00 (@ attendants' discretion)
    .9*.9 and $81->100.00 @19%

  • -1

Okay, so all this talk has been about eGift -> Big W Gift Card. Now can we use the Big W Gift Card to buy another Big W Gift Card?

    • My bf said he watched someone do this yesterday but since you have to go through the cashier it probably depends how attentive the staff are. I think the T&C say no but the registers don't stop the transactions going through.

      • giftcard inception…

      • -1

        Were they successful?

        • Tried it yesterday but the cashier said no.
Then she proceeded to tell all cashiers to ensure they also told everyone else the same.
