I still don't understand how this "10% off When you spend $100 or more on a Big W gift card offer" works. is the discount on the whole transaction or only on the big w giftcard?

    • +14

This has all been explained in an earlier post.
Purchase a BigW gift card over $100 when you walk into the store before you start your shopping.
…a $100 card will cost you $90. You have only paid $90 for this bit of plastic!

Scan this Family & friends barcode at checkout and pay for your goods with the gift card!

All up you have saved 20% on your purchases…sweet!

      • +13

        19%, not 20%.

      • +1

Anyone used their Groupon BIGW eGift card to buy BIGW gift cards with the 10% off? i.e. $200 Groupon gift card (for $185) to buy 2x$100 gift cards?

        • +1

Apparently yes, some people have been able to do this

        • +1

Yes, if you have $200 form Groupon, you can buy $222.22 worth of physical Big W cards with it for a total of 16.75% discount on your card.

        • @snuke: sold!

        • is it still 10%? i can only see 5% on groupon

        • @snuke:

Its not 10 or 5% its 7.5% from groupon nor entertainment card

I did it OK also :)

      • Does not say 20% off just 10% off the 20% off is just for glasses?

      • Gift cards are excluded.

  • +7

The exclusions say Apple, Samsung, Gift Cards and Game Consoles…..what else is there to buy?

    • +4

Those buckets of M&M's or Maltesers?

    • +2

    • +5

so basically ps4 can be had for $300 then with 10% gift card, 10% weekend sale on a $368 console?

    • -3

If it still remains in stock by then, then yes.

    • +7

      • Thanks for clarifying that

  • Thanks OP!

  • -1

My everyday rewards card has given me a $10 BigW credit too, stack it up!

    • +5

I'm pretty sure your $10 credit is expired yesterday

    • +1

This offer runs from 10 to 16 December 2015.

  • 10% off storewide….but excludes giftcards…so when you buy the bigw gift cards with the 10% off(over $100), you can't get the 10% off storewide discount on top?

    • +3

not for the purchase of the gift card, but you can then use the purchased giftcard ($100 card for $90) to purchase things at 10% off that are not excluded

      • Those included and paid by GC are 19% off.

  • +1

    Noooo excludes gaming consoles

  • Maybe helpful to link to the gift card deal you mentioned;
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/225198

  • How long the BigW gift card will expire?
    2 years?

  • +1

Just in time to get some new glasses, will have a look over the weekend.. thanks OP!

  • +3

Actually I like JBHiFi gave you $30 when you purchase $100 gift card 2 years ago.
Hope JB will have that campaign very soon.

    • Can't disagree, that was one of the best deals ever for gift cards.

  • So say I wanted to buy this item that was not in store about week ago and manager said getting more in and can get at that price when comes in so say it's 109$ what could I possible get this for as on what I read 10% off gift card and another 10%,off store wide or is it possible they could say no.
As its now selling for 219$ but as they never had it when I was there they said I get for that promo price of $108 when comes in

    • +4

      say what?

      • I will explain item costs 219$ was on sale for 109 last week or so store I went to said get more in and will get it at that price of sale price of 109$.
All good but wondering if I can score even more of with the above 10%,and I am right in saying there is also 10% store wide?
So I'm wondering if they maybe give me another 20% off?

        • -1

          3 plus 3 is 24

        • Whatever

        • I can't see why not as long as you have rainchecked the said item. So you should get it for $109 - 10.9 (10% gift card) - 10.9 (10% off storewide)= $87.2.

        • Yes thats what i thought but i suppose its upto them just wanted to be sure.

        • @bwatt99: did they give you a raincheck? do you have proof that they'll sell it to you for that ($109) price?

        • For a raincheck item (which it sounds like it is), I think the 10% store-wide wouldn't apply. However there would be no reason why you couldn't pay for it with a gift card which you got at the 10% discount.

        • What does rain check mean?i tried several stores on the day none had stock left one store said they have more on order.i asked if i get at that price said yes manager told lady yes,not in front of me but came back and said so.
Little do they know and not taking any chances i price matched another store but im thinking of this one as another gift.
They had tried to get hold of me and had it reserved for a few days but stuck it back on shelf.
I said i never got messages till now to give me more time and said its ok they are all still on shelf.
But i would be getting it at the promo price.
I even had the lady on that day do it in writing.
So why would i not get the 10% off storewide? It just happens im getting it while its happening pick up tomorrow and im not sure about gift card thing.
But do i say i want to buy a gift card to a certain value if so what.its going to cost 109$ so $109 gift card value and if they give me the extra 10% store wide then bigger bonus as that leave credit in the card?
Is this the way it works?

        • @bwatt99: rain check loosely defined: a "coupon" (written commitment) issued to a customer by a shop, guaranteeing that a sale item which is out of stock may be purchased by that customer at a later date at the same reduced price.
I'd be very surprised if the 10% store wide would be applied to your item, as you already have an agreed price, which is less than the current scanning price (by your description). However, good luck to you.
The 10% off gift cards thing is a completely different deal. You would basically enter store, ask to buy a BigW gift card, you could buy a $100 card for $90 for example. Then in the (seperate) transaction where you buy your item, you simply pay with the BigW gift card you just bought.
The only way you're going to find out is to go in store and try.

Hi does anyone know if they sell iPhone 6s+ and if it qualifies for the discount. I can't see it on their website.

    Thanks

    • +2

I suggest you read the linked attachment, it is very clear on exclusions. It has also been mentioned on this page. This is probably why someone down voted your question.

  • Went to bigw hurstville and was told it is illegal to buy gift cards and pay with egiftcard. I tried to reason but to no avail. I even said what about other store gift cards like myer and david jones and she insisted one cannot buy gift cards and pay with egiftcard regardless of the card variety.

    • +3

well first of all, any staff member who uses the term "illegal" has no idea. The most it could be is contrary to the terms and conditions - but, as some have pointed out, the T&C's are often inconsistent - for every T&C you find that suggests it would not be permitted, you'll find another that suggests it is. There's also a lot of grey in terms of which T&C's apply to which cards - as there's considerable overlap. Inconsistencies would be interpreted in favour of the consumer.

      • Southland store staff member who was acting as manager claimed same - said it was 'against the law' to buy one gift card with another - and asserted that it had to do with money laundering (what a lot of bunkum)! I asked where it was in the terms and conditions as I had been right through them and there is no mention of not being able to purchase other gift card/s and she claimed that as it was 'illegal' they didn't have to put it in the terms and conditions and the ACCC were enforcing it and this had come as a strict directive from the BigW head office and had to be strictly enforced!

She wouldn't be swayed either. The T&C do exclude some things - but other gift cards are not one of them! I think BigW either need to upskill their staff or re-write T&C or both!

        • +3

Folks should complain to BigW Head Office. It's pretty easy and will stop this misrepresenting behaviour from staff

        • +2

Money laundering hey? Sacre bleu! I would complain … especially if not in T & Cs (I never read anything over a few paras). Yes, I would complain!

        • +2

Many staff are clueless with respect to their knowledge of the law and the workings of the law. This issue has nothing to do with "illegality". That's not to say that someone at BigW hasn't issued some sort of directive - but that's simply a BigW policy issue. The WW group are entitled to run and administer their gift card program as they see fit, within the law (esp. s.23 of the ACL), just as consumers are entitled to rely on representations made. These are commercial matters, not criminal matters, nor conduct prohibited by statute or contrary to public policy.

If anyone has a right to use the term "criminal" or "racketeering" in relation to gift cards, it's consumers - the "racket" being expiry dates - as the principal benefit for organisations in flogging as many gift cards as they possibly can, is because historically, around 30% of gift cards are never redeemed. Now that really could be argued as "contrary to public policy" and morally bereft.

        • @maverick: Craziest of all was that same person informed me that ONE person purchased all the Ticketmaster gift cards advertised at 10% off and somehow got the manager to get the supplies from all other stores in the region/state — he cleaned them out purchasing 1,000 at $45,000. Now if they were serious about potential money laundering….perhaps a limit ahem!

      • +1

        lol ïllegal…

Call the cops!!! Someone is trying to buy a giftcard with a giftcard…

    • +2

Weird. I used my Groupon Big W eGiftCards to purchase $2,500 worth of Physical WISH GiftCards so I could use them at all the Everydayreward stores.

Did this at a proper counter in the Big W Melbourne QV store.

    • +2

I tried buying a Visa prepaid Gift card with an eGift card at Woolworths Cumberland Park in Adelaide. The lady was happy to help but could not make it work so suggested that we change the eGift Card (it was the Groupon deal) to a Woolworths Gift card. After converting it to the Woolworths Wish gift card she tried again but the cash register software would not allow it. She checked with her supervisor and was told that you could not buy gift cards that allowed purchases outside of the Woolworths group with gift cards. They were happy to change an eGift Card to a Woolworths Wish gift card.

  • I am looking at paying out a laybuy I have (Lego Deathstar) and trying to return and rebuy it again with the 10% off..

Has anyone done this before? or would they refuse do you think?

    • +1

be nice, ymmv, let us know how it goes.

      • +3

I can confirm that yes you can. Just did it this morning!

    • i hope it wasnt on special during the original purchase and now not on special during the re purchase

    • ps. How much is that Death Star right now? (Did not realize it had be re-released). Those accused of "money laundering" may need a hide out … at least until Luke gets there.

"Aaarrgh .. Dang that rebel scum (scam)!"

  • +2

Does anyone know from experience whether an offer that excludes gaming consoles still applies to gaming console accessories (e.g. Xbone controllers)? Or are they likely to be excluded as well?

    • +2

I am just about to try this. Will let you know!

      • Did you manage to get the discount?

  • -1

Anyone have any idea if we can use e-wish gift card to purchase this bigw gift card?

    • +1

As per the other thread you asked this same question in, it has already been answered multiple times. Please take 30 seconds to read available info.

      • Yeah sorry, I have read this thread few times, maybe I couldnt grasp it easily, but what I found from this thread mainly about people purchasing bigw gift card with bigw e-gift card, not with wish e-gift card?

You can purchase it with bigw e-gift card. But still cant find info about wish e-gift card

        • They are basically the same, except the Wish card can be used at every location.

        • formal I can confirm that I bought a Big W card with an egift card. However the ability to do this depends on both the salesperson and the store so there is no definite answer as to whether it will work for you.

        • yep thanks guys :)

Great deal. Bought stone well casserole pot (reg $79 - 50% off) and a $3 glow bands. Paid via $100 gift card ($90 cash), still have $61+ left on card.

    • The glow bands are a big hit with the kids, especially as all the fireworks at the Carols venues are expected to be cancelled. This us due to Total Fire Ban across a few (if not more) states.

  • This stacking deal is great, used it to buy a bunch of baby formula which is never on sale.

    • Oh no -_- wish you didn't say that… There will be a run on them and so many babies will go hungry again. Formula should be limited to 2 per purchase… Then again, they will just keep lining up with 2 cans and empty the shelf anyway

  • Can you buy ps4 games with this? Looking to purchase black ops 3

  • +1

I took advantage of this sale today, scanned my print out at the self service checkout and then passed the printout on to a couple doing a large purchase next to me. They were quite surprised and enjoyed the extra 10% off.

I didn't see anyone else in the self checkout area using the 10% off voucher. So many people could be saving so much money…
