Hello,

I wanted to share this deal i found. Amazon has the LOTR Trilogy Extended Blu-Ray on a Deal of the Day sale for $48.50 AUD delivered (according to xe.com) or if you want the $USD price it's $34.97 USD. It's not the lowest price that it's ever been but i thought it was still a good deal.

Australian retail price is $84.98 according to JB Hi-Fi

Product Description

The Fellowship of the Ring; A meek hobbit of the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to Mount Doom to destroy the One Ring and the dark lord Sauron. The Two Towers: While Frodo and Sam edge closer to Mordor with the help of the shifty Gollum, the divided fellowship makes a stand against Sauron's new ally, Saruman, and his hordes of Isengard. The Return of the King: Gandalf and Aragorn lead the World of Men against Sauron's army to draw his gaze from Frodo and Sam as they approach Mount Doom with the One Ring. Peter Jackson directs these action adventure movies starring Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, Sean Astin, Cate Blanchet and more. This special edition of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy includes theatrical and extended editions of the movies on 15 Blu-Ray discs.

  • does this work on our region bluray? amazon uk are the same as our region, amazon us are not but sometimes the discs are region free.

never mind, I must have skipped where you said region free. sorry.

The bluray discs (the movies) are region free but I believe the DVDs (bonus content) are region 1.

      • Yeah all of the movie blu-ray discs are region free.

  • how long would an extended edition marathon of the lord and the rings and the hobbit movies be i wonder…

    • Far too long. I have the extended LOTR trilogy and wish I got the original release . The extra scenes/footage doesn't add anything but makes the movies almost unbearably long.

      • +5

i would have to disagree I love the extended editions, you understand the hobbit a lot more as well I think.

        • -2

so is it just the last film that is extended or all of them?

        • Does it help you understand why Peter Jackson turned a beloved children's book into a bloated mess of three films?

        • @yacman:

          All of them are extended.

        • @hollykryten: Thanks, not sure why I got negged, I thought there was only an extended version of the last hobbit film, there's so many versions of films these days, seems like a real cash grab.

        • @yacman:

This is the original Lord of the Rings movies. It's not the Hobbit films.

On the subject of the Hobbit films, there are extended versions of all those too.

        • @hollykryten: yeah on first pass I didn't realize they were the originals, so I deserved to get nagged, that being said, wow so many extended versions it's kinda ridiculous, I thought X-Men days of future past rouge edition was a cash grab, 6 extended versions, this is probably worse.

      • I kind of agree with the first part - the extra footage isnt anything mind blowing. But I loved it. I fell asleep at the cinema (during the 2nd & 3rd films) and couldnt understand why people liked them so much. But I'm a die hard fan now and the extended is great.
You get a gold medal if you make it through all the extras.

wish I got the original release

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world LoungeLizard, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you were also meant to watch the extended editions. And that is an encouraging thought.

        • Classic!

      • Totally disagree. Sure the extra scenes aren't mind-blowing, but they really add to the story, they aren't just there for 'fluff'. Personally I'm extremely happy with the LotR extended editions!

  • Do you still need to change disc with the blu ray?

    • +1

Yeah the extended movies are split into 2 discs each, part 1 & 2

  • Has been much cheaper in the past (ignoring currency fluctuations)

A full year ago. It hasn't been any where near that price since.

  • Are the blurays region free or region A1? Conflicting answers listed online. Googling the ASIN number B007ZQAKHU shows region A/1 on other sites.

    • UPDATE: Spoke to a customer rep from Amazon.

Me: I'm wondering what region the lord of the rings bluray boxset that is currently on sale for the next 4 hrs is?
Rep: Upon checking here I've seen that this item is eligible for Region A only.

      • +1

Amazon rep is right about it being a Region A release set but wrong about the actual blu-ray discs. It may have been a Region A release box set but the actual blu-ray movie discs are completely region free. Only the DVD (bonus content) are DVD region 1 locked. The movies itself can be played any where in the world on any blu-ray player.

        • Ok thanks. I'll go ahead and order this item since the blu-rays are region free.

    • +1

The movie blu-ray discs are region free as been stated multiple times in this thread.
