  • Rep, any specials on Seagate 2 Bays NAS Pro. I don't need 4 bays for home use.

    • +8

You do, you just don't know it yet. =)

      • I have got only 1.5 TB (approx) data. Why I need 4 bays?

        • So you can have more than 1.5TB!

        • @chrisishere: Fair enough, but if I use 2 X 3Tb or even 2 X 6TB, will it not help?

        • Simultaneous failure of both drives =)

        • @Lukian: Thanks for advise; but the probability of simultaneous failing 4 drives will not be much than probability of failing 2 drives in any scenario.
I am more inclined of buying small system to my current needs and then update the whole system in few years.

Saying that, I will give serious thoughts on buying 4 bay NAS - even 4X2TB drives and use RAID to backup 2 drives to avoid the worse.

Another advise which is preferable - HP Microserver G8 or Seagate NAS pro? my experience with Linux is Null.

        • @akd: I use a Microserver (it's so much faster than the NAS my housemate has, but that may also be to do with my drive choice). I run zfsguru off a USB stick. But most people just use FreeNAS. Any good NAS operating system is just an easy to use Web Interface.

        • @Lukian: Thanks Lukian

        • @akd:
          +1 on the microserver.

It is basically a low power PC you can even put windows on it if you like. most Nas's run arm chips which really limits what you can do on them.

You can upgrade to make it more powerful as well as it uses lga 1155 but you need to be mindful of power requirements but there are plenty of guides out there.

    • Sorry, We are not doing special for 2Bays Seagate NAS Pro

  • Gen 9/10 finally coming soon?

    • The ML10v2 is the latest model, not the Gen8

      • The ML10v2 is not a Microserver, I'm curious about the next range of Microservers from HP, fans of the Microservers have been looking to find a replacement for over a year.

  • Any chance of some drives to go with it? Haven't had a really good drive deal in ages.

  • Hi erevyone,

    Our website is up running.

  • Hey op does the Seagate 6 Bay pro support 8tb hard drives and possible of making it 48tb?
Also if no one is using the nas do the drives go to sleep/stop spinning or are they always running?
    Thanks

  • Do you guys suggest the HP Microserver Gen G1610T 2GB or the HP ProLiant ML10v2 Server/NAS G3240 3.1Ghz 4GB they're about the same price. I purely only want to share my media (videos etc) on my home network through Plex.
