They are awesome if you've got single bloke's wrist. Locally they're ~$60

    • single bloke's wrist?

      • I think he means married man's wrist.

        • +2

No married men don't have time for that (too busy grabbing hold of their wallet with both hands). besides after marriage, the missus keeps them in a box, so you no longer get to play with them.

  • Using mine on the couch now. I was hesitant before I bought it, but after a few weeks I know there's tons of scenarios I wouldn't be without it. Great price too.

Looked at the Amazon listing and it said I purchased on 14 Dec 14 so I missed its birthday.

  • I have a couple of these. They're great, and that's an excellent price!

  • +2

I bought one of these, after reading comments similar to the above. It actually caused me more repetitive strain, than using a mouse! On top of that, I paid $50. After a couple of days usage, it now sits happily in my desk drawer.

I've bought several trackballs, including this one and expensive Kensington ones. I find it harder to use track ball to move over to top right hand corner to close windows. I don't get why so many people find it easier,

    • +2

I think we can generally summarise the types of trackball into 2:

      1. Thumb for the movement. Index finger, middle finger and ring finger for the buttons
      2. Index finger and/or middle finger for movement, thumb and ring finger for the buttons.

They are of different purpose completely, type 2 is more for accurate applications like type 1 is for general use?

For this particular model. You issue could be because of the speed setting of the cursor…For me i would set the speed of the cursor in a way that I can "swipe" my thumb across the diagonal of the screen. Also, the orientation setting in setpoint is important too.

I'd put it at three types. The 3nd type have your traditional billiard ball type ones, which require you moving your hand quite a bit, and can't naturally move from mouse motion to buttons without moving your hand, let alone scroll wheel.

I prefer the thumb type ones as you have the best sensitivity, dexterity, degree and length of movement with your thumb, and can easily control motion and use all buttons and scroll wheel without moving your hand. The index finger types, you just don't have the same degree of motion with a finger as opposed to thumb.

  • Anyone know if they have done hardware revisions on them? I have used trackballs for over ten years, and have one of these at home, one at work. The home one no longer works that well after four years (ball too stiff). Just wondering if they'd ever improved stuff like the bearings/mount. I actually ordered an Elecom new model, and they had upgraded their bearings. I'm still waiting on it, but at this price I'm temped to grab a spare.

    • Did you try to clean the three small white dots after taking away the ball? Those three white dots should be able to move freely too.

      • Yes, I do regularly.

Put a little bit of oil in the moving parts inside. Just one drop should be fine. See how that goes??

      • Thanks. Yes I tried that last night and a bit better, but feels a bit "grindy" still. MY 3 year old one at work is fine, but the 4yo home one has been pretty bad the last few months. I treat them both the same. The work one has way more use too.

I'm looking forward to trying the elecom one too, at least I'll have a decent comparison.

I'm tempted by this one still, but damned if I know how the OP gets A$37.68 shipped

  • great mouse, have one for the office.

only downside is I have to clean the track ball every now and then to remove the built up of dust inside.
    battery life is amazing too.

  • Thanks, ordering my 3rd one now.

I am wondering if there will be the new model coming up with the same family face and multiple connections as the current MX series

  • +1

awesome, now if only logitech would make a bluetooth version!

  • Love this mouse

  • Absolutely love this mouse. I tried going back to the classic one and I can't.

  • Wish I lived in America sometimes to avoid shipping. $37 is still pretty cheap but I've read due to the declining QA control this falls to the dreaded double click/non responding mouse buttons after ~6months. I don't have much trust in Logitech these days :/

    • If the double click problem is similar to the problems I had with mine (Logitech one), you could replace the switch if you know how to do so.
I think it's the switches they use that's causing double click issues on most Logitech mouses.

      • Yes, if you're comfortable with basic soldering then replacing the switch is cheap and easy. I've only had the issue after 3+ years on my mice.

        • +1

There is a way to fix it without soldering (it requires you to open up the switch), but it'd be easier to learn how to solder and replace the switch.

    • I have the double click issue sometimes. I am onto my 2nd one of these. But I love them so much.

  • Cheers OP! Picked up a couple of these

    Six days till Christmas
I don't really need this mouse
    Can't resist bargain.

    does this mouse really good?
if it is, i will take the dicksmith one

the deal has gone now ah

    • +1

It is still showing for me with the above link. USD 20.25 for the mouse and USD 6.84 for shipping.

  • For office people who need to quickly scroll through endless files, I find the M500 to be excellent and is also on sale. I actually prefer a corded mouse (I'm oldschool), and the hyper-fast scrolling on this one is magnificent, as is the comfort and precision for office work. My current one of these is starting to have the plastic slightly degrade under my thumb rest after 5 years of 8hr daily use, so I just bought another one from Amazon. You can't seem to buy them in Oz anymore:

    • It is surprising more people (including logitech) don't make more pointing devices with better scrollwheels.

  • Great find, just ordered one. First time i'll be using the tracking ball!
    Total price order USD 27.09

  • Thanks I haven't tried a trackball for many many years. The total came to 27.09usd 39.09aud

  • never really considered these mice, but couldn't resist

  • +1

Cool - could use a mouse that doesn't have to move around all over the desk (new furniture at home). Will try the trackball :)

FYI - deal only running until 7pm AEDT so if you're on the fence best to decide soon.

  • I see the price still at $27, but the shipping cost is $around 9 making the total AUD48. Was free shipping a part of the deal as well?

    • Sorry didn't realize you used USD in the first instance!

    • +1

no the price went down to ~$20USD. $38AUD was including shipping. Current price still a good price, but not as cheap as it was when this post was created.

      • Bummer! Now after seeing this at AUD38, AUD48 seems a rip-off :). Thanks.

  • It arrived today. Got to stop buying the 4th one next time.

    • Nice, mine has been "In Transit" for a few days was hoping to receive it yesterday. Probably Monday now :)
