  • Damn it, was about to get some tickets for Star Wars…..

    • get it ffrom the Australianmovievouchers (www.theaustralianmovievoucher.com.au) that one applies to all sessions and I think now they deliver next day

      • can't use for star wars until 27th though, as australian movie voucher only valid after first 10 days of a films release

        • And you can't book your seats online.

        • @Shaun1:

also true. I took a look at sessions for jan, and even those have the good seats already booked. That has always been the issue with those vouchers for me. some movies I could wait 10 days to see, but not worth if I have bad seats! I guess if you're in the city frequently you can book your tickets at box office a few days in advance to secure good seats.

        • I think thats fair enough if I am paying nearly half price.. I do hate the 'no online booking' thing but I work in the CBD so just a walk away to go and get the good seats. You can always ask a friend to do it for you..

Be careful where you spend $$$ on IMAX. I wasted money by going to IMAX on the weekend at Entertainment Quarter (Sydney) only to find the the screen is SMALLER than the Extreme Screen at Eastgardens Hoyts. Not sure if this happens in many other IMAX cinemas, but some are truly a rort and no better than a standard large screen.

I saw Star Wars on Friday at Eastgardens (not IMAX) and literally had to turn my head left to right to see each side of the screen. I went to see it again last night at a different cinema, but the "IMAX" at Entertainment Quarter only filled about 3/4 of my line of sight. I was sitting in roughly the same place in the cinema, so it wasn't about distance from the screen. People had complained to me before about the pitiful size of the screen there, but I didn't realise just how bad it was. I guess they get away with calling it IMAX because they use the larger film projectors, but the small screen makes it pointless. Wasted more than $13 on it because my normal Hoyts vouchers don't work for IMAX.

The new reclining seats at Hoyts Eastgardens are fantastic, I should let people know how excellent they are. I'll be seeing a lot more movies there from now on!

Last time I went to IMAX in Bangkok the cinema was about three storeys high, and it really felt like something special. But some of them are an absolute rort in Sydney, being no larger than typical large movie screens.

We're so lucky to have Eastgardens cinemas nearby. I always thought the venue was a bit less social than the other local places (which generally have more dining options within 2 minutes walk and a more exciting atmosphere) but they're making up for it now.

And yeah. what's the deal with small IMAX screens?! It's not just in our minds (http://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/imax-looking-punieā€¦), but as Sydney-siders we've been spoiled with the world's largest IMAX screen.

    • hmm as per peterpeter's link, we have biggest imax in the world in Sydney, so not sure what you were looking at.

"The biggest screen in the world in Sydney, Australia, for instance, is over 97 feet high and 117 feet wide, totaling a humungous 11,350 square feet "

Trying to find hoyts screen size, can only find 28m wide Blacktown (biggest)which is less tan 117 feet

(yes I know this is weeks old)

  • Be careful they can give u bad vouchers. It happened to me. The iMax staff also said it happens quite often.
