Annual Winter Steam Sale

900

Hey guys, the annual Winter Steam Sale is here!

As with the more recent sale, most of the deals are scattered throughout the Steam catalogue since there are no more daily and flash deals due to their new refund policy.

Time to get digging!

Don't be silly. This is a deal as much as x% off eBay sales. OP hasn't formatted or included any links so that's the issue.

      • -4

"We're having a sale" vs "Everything 10% off" is not the same. In that sense EB Games would be on Ozbargain every day!

    • +13

For those of you down voting, allergic's comment was posted in response to the original deal (we're now on revision 7) where it was just a link to the deal page and had no real information.

  • +13

I appreciate the fact that you got in as soon as you could due to these deals tending to make front page. But if you're gonna go ahead and steal the glory, could you at least post the Highlighted Deals? Your post should belong in the forums with the limited amount of effort you put into it. For example, no products mentioned, no prices mentioned, nothing.

Yes, I'm annoyed as I just spent the last 10 minutes going through the tedious job of hyperlinking all the Highlighted Deals which will end up being reported and deleted for being a duplicate.

    • +7

That's why you submit the deal and update every 5-10 mins. There was no way I was going to edit some deals I've posted for an hour for it to be a dupe!

      • +6

I'd rather submit a completed deal per OzBargain's rules & guidelines.

        • +1

But it would be a completed deal… Or, would you prefer to link the 3000 games on sale in your body?

        • -5

          @kaneissik:

Are you being serious? You post the Highlighted Deals on the main Steam sale posts.

        • -1

          @Dagmar:

Are you being serious? You're not Understanding My Point.

        • +5

          @kaneissik:

Sounds like someone is grumpy they didn't get to post this…

          @exc3113nce:

Not at all, I finish work at 3 am so I don't really have time to post deals.

    • +3

Instead of being more supportive, you have to be and A-hole to him for making a beginner's mistake?

      • The user has been around since June this year. Not a beginner.

    • +13

"But if you're gonna go ahead and steal the glory"

If you think their is glory in posting a thread to an online forum, I suggest you should re-evaluate your life.

      • +6

Is this a norm on Ozbargain?

I remembered posting an alternative solution to a discounted item that was out of stock.
Two other guys were quick to call me an idiot and told me I was being arrogant.
According to them, I was trying to steal the glory by simply suggesting an alternative solution.

I mean for goodness sake, this is a forum for open discussion.

      • -5

It was a figure of speech. But sure, I'll go re-evaluate my life over that.

  • +15

Yay, more games to buy and never play.

    • +11

I thought steam sale was a game, find the least expensive way to increase the volume of the game library… ;)

      • +5

Isn't that just the ozbargain mindset applied to digital products? ;)

      • I would, but recently bundle stars has not sent me any of their 'free' steam games to any of my email addresses. And I've bought bundles in the past… Disappointed

  • +13

Remember its worth checking out other sites as well, for example rocket league is 13.99 USD on steam store but on GMG its 11.20 USD after applying 20% off code (XMAS20-PERGMG-SVINGS).

    • +2

Use IsThereAnyDeal.com to check various steam key retailers.

      • +7

Use the Enhanced Steam plugin in your web browser, it takes the info from is there any deal and displays it right there on the steam product page.

        http://www.enhancedsteam.com/

There are also plugins that can do money conversions so it will show AU prices (roughly) instead of US.

    • +2

Actually better deal using GMGAUS-30J9MF-MUINWW see: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/226920.

  • +3

I highly recommend Besiege. If you've ever had the desire to create medieval/steampunky siege machines to lay waste to fortifications or tiny villages, then Besiege will give you a hefty bag of tools to do just that. One of the rare early access titles that feels fleshed out and is constantly being worked on.

    • +1

Besiege in my opinion worth its price at even at current state if you are into making stuff. It's a nifty game that worth its price. Other than the camera issues, the sandbox mode works fine. More stuff would be nicer, but I'd say as a $10 game, it certainly is competent as is. That said if you don't like making stuff, I wouldn't recommend it.

I spent 4 hours finishing the missions (might be more, might be less) and spent 44 hours in sandbox mode. I tried to make an aircraft that can do STOL and VTOL, without using the flying block. I've seen really creative stuff on the net like walker, MIRV, etc etc.

    • +1

Stevetheadventurer would be right in to this.

      • +1

Yeah physical media is soooo last gen :) Digital all the way!

  • +7

Honestly for the first time ever…. not a single thing I'll buy. Nothing on my wishlist is on a 75% discount, most is around 40%. With the currency the way it is, no way.

    • +4

It's been like this for every steam sale over the the last year and half or so. They definitely aren't anywhere near as good as they used to be.

      • This is just day 1 though, right?

        • +1

prices are meant to stay the same over the course of the sale. What changes is that different deals are highlighted.

        • @phil1311:

I mean.. more things will be added right?

        • @theworks:
          No, this is likely it.

      • +1

Could be much worse though. Imagine if you were paying peasant prices?

  • +3

    +1 for the effort OP.
Between my unplayed Steam library and my Udemy courses, I should be fully occupied until approx 2047

  • +6

Talos Principle. 75% off. Now $9.99 US. 93% positive reveals.

    • Been waiting for a good price. Will probably pick it up at last.

      • Don't forget to check out the ozbargain classifieds to see if there are members selling a copy for cheaper. /hint hint ;)

  • +1

Just to confirm: These prices don't get better as the sale continues right? I remember steam use to do the flash sale thing but that hasn't been around for the last couple of sales.

    • Correct. They did it to stop all the refunds for the flash sales.

      • Awesome, thanks mate! Time to grab some games.

      • Eh?

Did people buy for cards and then refund the game or something?

        • +3

Steam doesn't do flash deals anymore because they now have a refund policy. So if a game that was on sale was for 50% off over the sale, and then it turns up in a flash sale for 75% off, it would cause steam/value a huge headache in all these people wanting refunds because of the additional 25% off..

That said, Steam sales are just lousy these days. Infact, if I want a game, steam is the last place I look as you can usually find a much better deal elsewhere.

  • +3

Grabbed undertale for $8. Thanks OP

    • +1

Best to swing over to kmart and get some bargain tissues first.

      • +1

My dirty mind went somewhere else completely with your comment… clicked through to the game and then understood what you really meant about the tissues.

  • Can recommended Xcom EW… New xcom coming out next year so get in now and play a (remade) classic if you haven't already

  • I'm after a fun coop online. Suggestion?

    • Maybe more info? I like Coop games but I would suggest anything from Spintires to Warframe to Resident evil 5/6 to Medieval Engineers. There is quite a wide spectrum of game types that are coop.

    • +1

I've heard good things about Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes.

Insurgency also has a good co-op mode if you prefer shooters.

    • Dark Souls 2

But you generally coop with only one other person, instead of a party of a couple of players.

There is also PVP as well, where random invaders can come and kick your butt as you play the story line.

    • I'm looking for the same but preferably not first person view (cause motion sickness).

    • Dark Souls has jolly cooperation.

  • Just what I need to fill up that new 1TB ssd and make the most of my unlimited broadband plan

  • +1

If you are after GTA V PC. I got mine for 43Aud on cdkeys.com. Thats way cheaper than 45.99 usd..

    http://www.cdkeys.com/pc/games/grand-theft-auto-v-5-pc-cd-ke…

    • Worth noting of course that you didn't get a steam version for that price, only a rockstar social club version.
The only place you can get a steam key for gta 5 is steam.

      • The only place you can get a steam key for gta 5 is steam.

lol… WRONG, you can buy steam keys for any game heaps of places

        https://www.g2a.com/grand-theft-auto-v-steam-cd-key-global.h…

        • -1

That is a steam gift not a steam key. Not the same thing.

        • +2

          @CyberGenesys: wrong

plenty of sites sell steam cd keys or steam gifts

        • -1

@Makoto: The one you linked to sells GTA V as a Steam gift. I'm pretty sure that's why they wrote 'Steam Gift' next to the price.

There are issues associated with buying Steam Gifts

          https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5854-QWL…

Eidt: I apologise for trying to help and inform people against the possible methods of scams and product revocation. I won't do it again /sarcasm.

        • @CyberGenesys:

There's no point arguing against G2A. These people are stupid and will look past the fact that the keys are stolen and resold and just want something slightly cheaper when eventually it'll be revoked.

        • +1

@kaneissik: lol, stolen keys. theres heaps of sites to buy the keys from. they aren't stolen, they may be bought in different regions such as russia where its cheaper (even ON steam itself)

        • @Makoto:

Yeah and they'll be revoked. Go download a car

        • @kaneissik: they WONT be revoked, you have no idea what you're talking about.

keys sold on G2a is like buying from eBay if you dont buy from G2A itself. Many different sellers, some could be selling keys bought with fake credit cards. Stick to the big sellers or the site itself and you have zero problems.

this is the reason G2A offer insurance on their sales on the site because if anything happens to your game key, if you buy the insurance, G2A itself will reissue a new key or refund you

        • +1

@Makoto: Google 'steam key revoked' first result is an issue with G2A. You are completely missing the point. Yes, you can buy Steam keys and Steam gifts from 3rd party vendors, but it's with increased risk. Most vendors such as GMG are considered safe and reliable, but there are others who have a higher than normal reports of issues, Kinguin and G2A are 2 such examples. You would have to be an idiot to think that these vendors are '100% safe'; they have the option for 'purchase insurance' for a reason. Steam Gifts purchases (such as the GTA V you linked) are even more susceptible to being revoked as Valve will revoke with very little discernment.

If you Google 'steam key revoked g2a' some of the first results are specifically for GTA V Steam gifts purchased from G2A. Sure you can pay extra for insurance but by that argument why not just pay extra and not buy from a reputably dodgy store. YMMV.

        • @CyberGenesys: you better not buy anything from eBay then

you dont have to pay insurance if you buy directly from G2A.

IF you buy from a seller ON g2a, then you have the option of paying a dollar extra for G2A to cover things in case things go wrong!

          it's not rocket science

        • +1

@Makoto: so at the end of all this, i still don't see a steam cd key for sale (not gift), from anywhere else but steam itself, or did i miss a link?

        • had a question but the steam faq answered it.

        • -1

@wukachuka: since it's hard for anyone here to use their brains and search the internet,

          https://www.gamekeys4all.com/422-grand-theft-auto-v-steam.ht…

        • +1

@Makoto: which is actually $3 more than on steam….

        • -1

          @wukachuka:

i still don't see a steam cd key for sale (not gift), from anywhere else but steam itself

          I post a link

then you still waffle on with more garbage. The guy with no clue above said there are NO sites to buy a steam key from for GTA V.

he is WRONG and you are WRONG

        • @Makoto: You have still totally missed the point. You're first comment "you can buy steam keys for any game heaps of places" but you linked to a STEAM GIFT which is not a STEAM KEY. You claimed GTA V was available as a STEAM KEY but didn't provide any EVIDENCE as your link did not support your claim. The discussion after that was simply pointing out the difference between STEAM KEYs and STEAM GIFTs and the risks associated with it.

When you finally provide a valid (assumed) link it is more expensive than purchasing directly through Steam, hardly useful don't you think?

This whole 'waffle on' was because you provided the WRONG link at the beginning.

  • I'm guessing within the flash deals and daily deals, we won't have to wait til the last day then…

  • This has been one of the worst sales, I think when they did flash sales the prices were much better. I am going to buy most of my games on Nuuvem, they seem to have the cheapest price around (sale or not).

  • Just Cause 3 is tempting, but I can probably get it cheaper elsewhere.

    • +3

I bought mine for around 35 aud from Cdkeys.

      • $45 currently. I'll have to keep going shopping.

  • +1

    HELLDIVERS ISN'T ON SALE WTF

  • Steam Sales are so boring now :/

  • Yeah, really low discounts overall. And it seems a lot of Ubisoft games just aren't on sale. Have a few I was interested in too.

    • Head over to Uplay, I heard they're having a seperate sale, from a friend who is after FC4. I personally wouldn't be able to tell you. I try not to install trojan viruses on my computer.

      • +1

Yeah, and I want them on steam. Fair enough they are trying to get Uplay going (and I know it would have to be installed anyway), but i like having all in one place.

  • +2

    Games I'd recommend buying:

CS:GO - Heaps of fun if you like FPS games and is super cheap and well worth it for $10.

Star Wars Collection - Same deal they had earlier in the year. 14 games for $32. Although some of them aren't the most polished games if you're into star wars I'm sure you'll get some joy out of them. The bundle does include KOTOR 1/2 although these can be bought for $13 (each)on GOG if you just want these games and DRM free. If you are interested in star wars though maybe give SWTOR a try. It's quite good for a F2P game and you can even pay $30 to subscribe for 2 months and play through 1 or 2 characters story lines.

Witcher 3 - Very deserving of "Best Game of 2015". If you haven't played it go buy it now, it's fantastic. Buy it from GOG though. It's cheaper ($36 AUD) than steam and DRM free.

    • -5

CS:GO is arguably the worst game ever

      • +2

O2 is arguably the worst gas ever.

See I can make ridiculous claims too.

      • To each their own.

  • +9

My preferred method of browsing Steam Sales, sortable by user rating and percentage off: https://steamdb.info/sales/

It also tells you the historical biggest discount so you know if it's likely to go lower than the current price in a sale.
