  • $99 Toshiba Canvio Basics from ShoppingExpress
a few post mentioned this, but $135.00 http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/toshiba-canvio-basics-…
not in their boxing day sale at all!
    what did I miss?

    • $99 Toshiba Canvio Basics starts at 10 pm 27/12 http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/Boxing-Day-Sale-27th only 100 available

      • Does anyone know if Toshiba Canvio Basics and be used in PS4?

        • +1

Canvio Basics is the "Thicker" 2.5 inch drives so I don't think it will fit…..Note I don't own a PS4.

Is these Seagate fitted with the standard "thinner" 2.5 drivers??

        • @syswong:

          Yes

I bought on of these and inserted it into my ps4.

      • Why is the price still at $135? :/

EDIT: My bad, it starts on the 27th haha

  • +1

    shipping is $4.95!

  • This is a DAMN good price for a 2TB 2.5" internal drive, if you just take the enclosure off. Useful for PS4 or laptop.

  • Any reason/negatives not to buy this, or the toshiba mentioned above? Such as soldered connector or encryption board??

  • Not to fond with hard drives nor alone technology but does this use a separate power cable?

    • No, they're powered with usb cable only

      • Cheers buddy ill definitely pick up one tomorrow!

  • Which one would you recommend between the Seagate and Toshiba mentioned above?

    • my seagate stopped working after a year

but it did get dropped 2 or 3 times

  • Wonder if this is the same model that is given a very bad rap on product review?

  • Are the 2tb Seagate the drive that is known to fail a lot?

    • No, I believe that's the older 3TB drive. This Seagate actually has a Samsung spinpoint inside.

    • I have two for three years spinning everyday without an issue. In saying that, remember to have it plugged into a usb3 port connected to the mother board (i.e. no usb hub). UPS for the machine also helps hard drive failure as well.

  • Can someone tell me if you can use the HDD in a PS4, desperately need to increase my 500gb internal drive for $100 this would be perfect.

    • +1

Yep, this works as an internal drive for PS4.

      • It does, and it's a recommended one on a few tech sites, but there's complaints of clicking noises and other problems with this drive. Do a search for it on Google before buying. It changed my mind, and I'm going to get a Toshiba 1TB instead.

        • I've installed a 2TB hard drive from the Seagate Backup Plus in my PS4 - so far it's working perfectly, no odd noises like beeping or clicking (the hard drive had been in use as an extended storage for Xbox One games for about two months before I eventually reformatted it and installed it in the PS4). I'd be interested to know what the percentage of people who experience problems with it is.

        • @Lioness15: Fair point. I know those with problems are more likely to complain and give an unrepresentative impression of the problem rate. I can't find the reddit post(s) that mentioned the issues, but some people were stressing out, others were saying it was fine.

  • How does this differ from the Backup Plus line hdd's…(other than appearance) is it just the Seagate software?

    • Pretty much - the Backup Plus comes with backup software and an extra year of warranty, I think, but the actual hardware is the same.

  • +1

You can get this cheaper at Officeworks for their standard price of $103.

  • Is this better than the WD on Scoopon?

    • +1

Depends what you mean by better. People are saying this one can be fitted into playstations. Therefore it must have a standard interface. The WD doesn't - its USB cable is soldered onto a board - which has in the past - so probably still does… encrypt the data. Should that board fail, you lose everything on the drive. Should the cable break from bending, etc., you'll have to know how to solder on a new cable. On the other hand, from what I'm reading online at least, WD drives are more reliable.

It's frustrating. Why WD doesn't drop the encryption boards is beyond me.

I think I'm better off buying a standard 2.5" WD (this would fit straight into a laptop) - and also buying an empty enclosure - and just putting them together. Best of both worlds that way.

    • To get this for $93.20, purchase a $100 BIG W eGift card for $90 via this 10% off BIG W eGift Cards deal (eGift Card should be emailed to you in a few hours).

    • Purchase $100 worth of JB Hi-Fi gift cards (2x $50) at BIG W using the eGift Card.

    • Head off to JB Hi-Fi and purchase the hard drive with the $100 Gift Card you just purchased at BIG W then pay the remaining $3.20 with cash, card or leftover value from another JB Hi-Fi gift card you might have.

    • +2

my god, I think you're our neo. He's the one everybody!!

      • Glad I could help!

    • Just tried this and although ultimately successful, be aware that not all Big W s stock JB gift cards. And not all JBs have stock of this drive. I ended up driving around to a few Big Ws and JBs (Sydney) to get this to work which made me re-evaluate the $10 saving.

  • Ahhh good old Seagates all the HDD's in my dead drive draw are Seagates!

    • Yeah, I've been around computers since 286 days - and have had many more dead Seagates than WD. Today? Who knows.

  • Price matched the 1TB model at OW. Thanks for the JB link!
