      Only 2TB? Amateur.

      • +2

Maybe Amateur is the genre they prefer.

    Great price, bought 1. Thx

  • Is the performance and reliability any different than the 2TB WD My Passport Ultra or is it the same.

    • Yeah how is this compared to the WD and Seagate drives for reliability?

  • +1

    and ordered one!

  • Should I go with this or Toshiba Canvio Basics?
    Errrr

    • +2

Is there a similar deal available for the Toshiba ?

Contrary to the reviews of the Horrors of the Toshiba drive, I have had one for a while now and it hasnt given me any problems.

I like the Toshiba better than the WD ones as it is sleeker/lighter.

  • Big w have 50% off storage for 2 days only, so their portable 2TB drives work out a little cheaper than this.

    • +5

      says 'excludes hard drives'

      • Thanks for clarifying. I went to a store this morning and the 50% off sign was posted directly over the HDD section

        • that is too funny

      • +1

        "50% off storage."
        "Excludes HDDs."

        !? LOL!

I just bought one Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB HDD from BigW Forest Hill today $84, 50% off.

        • Thanks any chance send us your invoice please. Just checked Big W mirrabooka Wa they sell it for full price. Cheers

        • That's the store that had the sign up over the HDD. The sign made no mention that it excluded HDD.

    Great drive. Nice OP.

  • thanks OP, just ordered one, good price for this.

  • Hi. I just tried to buy this, but the price came up as $110. Am I doings something wrong?

    • +1

Did you use the Code EARLYBIRD?

      • +2

Thanks heaps, successfully ordered. Must be all the Christmas food that fried my brain cells.

  • So… Does THIS one have an encryption board? Or is it only the desktop types that come with plugpack power supplies that do that? i.e. Can this be removed from its case and installed in a laptop at a later date?

    • Can be removed from the case, but no, you can't install it on a laptop just yet because the SATA connection is soldered to the USB interface.

      • Ok, thanks. Do you know if it is physically the same - has the config/ability to plug in? (I'm used to soldering.)

        • There are the My Passport range, but they are similar:
          Image 1
          Image 2
          Image 3

        • @brokenglish: Yeah, just found this:
          http://tidelog.kitamuracomputers.net/2013/05/31/recovering-d…

I assume they still make drives without the enclosure, and you can buy enclosures separately. Might have to make up my own.

        • @realfamilyman: A very good find. Just word of caution, that's from a My Passport USB 2.0 range, I'm crossing my fingers and toes for you.
If you think your time and effort would be more than $8.20 to make the enclosure, I highly suggest you get this Seagate, but it's your money it's your choice :)

        • @brokenglish: Oh, I won't do it - I've had two hard drives in the past that were supposed to be the same, and their two boards didn't match. Seperate case and WD laptop-capable drive for me, I think.

  • anyone know if you can use these as internal drives? is there a sata connection?

    • +1

It is soldered to the USB interface sadly, as much as I'd like to buy this WD due to the cost per TB, Seagate is a no brainer for me

      • Anyone know if there is a WD portable, 2TB or more, that can be put into a laptop later if necessary?

        • WD made detachable USB interface only until 2.0 portable but not with their latest 3.0 portable drives…so AFAIK, the answer is no

      • ah thats a shame. which seagate are you using as internal? im looking for a 3.5"

        • This JB Seagate Deal of course.
If you're looking to take apart something just to get a 3.5" drive, might as well buy this

          UPDATE

          or this
But, really? Why specifically for 3.5"?

  • +1

Awesome deal. Bought. Thank you. At least 10 bucks cheaper then elsewhere.

  • +1

    Bought one, thanks OP.

Too bad the Big W sale excludes Hard Drives, I just called a few stores.
