  • Looking for a deal on the dual SiM edition

    • Edit, oh it's the compact nevermind

    • awaiting the price of Z5 dual sims drops to $500 range…

      • whats the model no for z5 dual sim?

        • E6683

        • @maxall:

I assumed there is no 4g (data) and 3g/4g (Voice) for this phone?

      • +1

        Will be waiting a while

  • -1

tempted.. But with the exception of the processor (Snapdragon 810) the specs are a little light on… 2GB of ram.. 720P Resolution… I wish they have a special on for the Z5 premium.. Then that has an overkill resolution which probably chews battery life… :(

    • Then that has an overkill resolution which probably chews battery life… :(

nah, it only runs at 4k when viewing photos or videos with the built-in apps. The UI is rendered in 1080p, which is a good move I think.

      • Is it possible to set the UI to display 4K when looking at the menus/general browsing. Also are Sony entering the Mobile 3D arena? With a screen that is 4K it would be better than the current galaxies in displaying convincing 3D? Even if battery lasts three hours it would be good to have the option…

        • Yes just change the Dpi in build prop then adb change res to match dpi however really pointless move that does nothing but chews batt hence sony didnt do it

          Oh yeh needs root

        • +1

When i get a 1080p pbone below 5.5" i actually change the display to 720p. The battery life and heat saved is well worth it and you seriously cant tell the diff unless you put your eyes next to display

        • @Balls: 4K display is only good for VR, such as google cardboard.

        • Replace 3D with VR* I've never thought of games that don't make you feel immersed like you are sensing depth as truly "3D" anyway. "3D games" just seems to have originated as a marketing term in the late 70s/early 80s to differentiate games like space harrier from side scrolling platformers. Google cardboard is basic but thinking more along the lines of the Samsung oculus device. Hoping the likes of Sony get on board. Sitting on purchasing the Z5 until Sony produces something amazing to make use of the 4K capability and power of the phone.

        • @Balls: agreed, I haven't noticed a practical difference in any phones since my lumia 920 3 years ago (at least when it comes to the resolution) and I have 20/20 vision

        • @Balls:
4K on a phone? As if you'd even notice it over 1080p or even 720p.

4K 65inch LEDs still look poo compared to the last 1080p plasmas. Resolution here is just a selling point, fool.

        • @Ripped: It is noticeable, you just have to be looking out for it. It also depends on the content you're looking at.

      • Great… That I didn't realize.

  • is it worth getting the single sim z5 or get the z5 dual for cheaper?

    • +1

dual model is grey imported goods(warranty or repair maybe have problem) Australian stock Single sim model is not cheap… Why Sony do not bring dual model to here?

      • It can't be economical to make 2 models one would think, I am asking the same question

    • +1

The only difference is that it can take 2 sims.

More suited to markets like Europe and Asia where travel to other countries (different telco) is frequent due to proximity. Some countries will even make you 'roam' when you go to a different city in that same country.

For the majority of people here it's not required.

Most people would not keep their original Australian sim in the phone when you travel due to crazy international roaming costs.

If your company is giving you a phone then they would want their stuff separate to your personal stuff (emails, files, etc not just voice calls).

If you are self employed like a tradie you probably want to answer all your calls (sales op) anyway so your personal number would be fine.

      • So the dual is cheaper and and extra sim?

If both are grey imports, might as well get the dual.

    • +1

I was seriously looking for a dual sim phone at one stage, as having both personal and business sim in 1 phone was more convenient than carrying around 2 phones.

Unfortunately I found out that a lot of these dual sim phones, the 2nd sim is limited to just 2g(gsm), and although the main sim can use 3g and 4g, they also have less bands then the equivalent single sim versions(Or maybe the websites which I did the comparisons didn't have the correct specs).

I don't know why they weren't offered here in the past, but with the announcement from Telstra that they will shut their 2g network in Dec 2016 and Optus to follow in Apr 2017, This will mean that the 2nd sim slot will end up being useless in a yrs time.

      • You were probably looking at chug eat Chinese phones, in which case yes early dual sim were 2g only for 2nd sim and didn't have many of the bands in Oz. This has all of them

  • +1

    grey import though?

  • +1

I've never purchased with eglobal before. How are they when it comes to dealing with warranties ( as this is a grey import)

  • From what I've read, they haven't fixed the spontaneous cracking issues which has plagued the xperia range. I'd be very hesitant buying without adequate warranty support.
I was reading this review from the verge today and the reviewer commented "At some unidentifiable point during my review of the new device, I managed to crack its frosted glass back. It wasn’t due to some big drop or otherwise obvious bump. What worries me more, though, is the outpouring of stories from current and former Xperia Z owners saying that they’ve had similar problems. Cracked or shattered glass backs are actually a recurring issue with Sony’s devices"
