Well, according to that website, Bali travel warning is the same as Nigeria and Pakistan.
As a regular visitor to Bali, I think it's quite ridiculous. :)

      • -3

And I'm sure you have access to just as much information as the government. Australians love going to countries even though they are warned not to, once there and something goes wrong, they complain and expect the government to some how fly in and rescue them.

Spend the extra money and go somewhere safe.

        • Define 'safe', you're far more likely to be killed by a host of other causes travelling pretty much anywhere in the world.

        • +2

If something bad happens we hear about it so yes, they have as much information. In many ways it's just scare mongering by the government to make it look like it is doing something in relation to something it has no control over. Thousands of Australians go to Bali each year and one attack has pretty much put them on the "do not visit list".

It's not like tourist haven't died here in Australia. Would you tell people in other countries not to come here?

          • +1

@Smigit: my point in here is, why every bali deal there is warning. why no warning to uk, where there was a bomb went off last week in northern ireland? and there is argument that uk intelligence agencies is better than Indonesian. If uk is better one than Indonesian, why this bomb still went off without warning? what a joke warning isn't it?

we are talking bargain or not bargain on this forum. this forum is not a warning forum.

      Hi PainToad,

Last week when there is a bomb blast in Northern Ireland, why I can not find UK or Northern Ireland on the list of the countries
      to be reconsider?
Bali bomb was happen couple years ago. may be similar time with London bomb. Even London still not on the list of
of the countries to be reconsider.

Can you answer my question? Why?

Every countries has the risk. Even when you drive your car today, there is no guarantee that you will be arrive at home safely.

For me dead or live is depend on your destiny.

      Good luck for you

      • -1

If you really think the UK isn't safer than Indonesia there's no point discussing anything with, because that is just ridiculous.

"For me dead or live is depend on your destiny."
Fine, but don't complain if you get blown up or get stuck in jail because of their insane legal system. Don't be on TodayTonight begging for the Rudd to "save you". If saving a few bucks (and exploiting a third world country) is more important to you than your own safety then have fun…and good luck.

        • so u mean if there are 100 bombs in uk this year. uk still be safer than 1 bomb in bali 5 years ago?

if you come to one country, you have to follow the local law. so are u talking about all the drug mule are innocent? and u want all
countries need to follow australian law / uk law / europan law? What a joke mate.

we are talking bargain or not bargain, why we have to talked all bs in here. talking about the risk bla bla bla.

please count how many people dead on the road accident in australia every year and how many people dead by bomb blast in Bali.

if all people dead by road accident in australia, why still a lot of people driving in here?

please use your common sense a bit.

RISK, i agree there is a risk. every where, any where.

          • -1

@dragonrabit: What a stupid argument. More people drive every year than those who go to Bali. And no I don't expect other countries to follow Australian law, that's my point! Many ignorant (you seem to know the risks and accept them, so not you) Australians do however, they go overseas expecting special treatment.

            • +3

@PainToad: u still not answering my question, if 100 bombs a year in uk compare than 1 bomb in bali 5 years go, which one is safer?
coz i can't follow your logic. there is a bomb in uk (northern ireland) this year but still safer than in bali
(so far no bomb blast yet and so far always the rumour).
have u heard the safest time when the rumour spread. and when it is silent it is more danger. in northern ireland no warning at all, then
the bomb just went off there.

ok. how about we make a comparission, how many australia that travel to bali dead by bomb blast every year, and we compare with
on the first day victim of road accident when long weekend.

i just want to show you, that the warning in the smarttraveller is not fair. the right word should be smartA***

and it seems u are not using your common sense until now.

              • @dragonrabit: Yet another stupid argument. Obviously no countries anti-terrorism is 100%, and yes bombs can and have gone off in the UK BUT I will trust (and so does the governments intelligence agencies) the UK's security more so than that of a third world country who struggles to keep it's population feed, let alond spend bucket loads on national security. Every country has risks, but people with common sense try to reduce that risk.

But if your the type of person who argues with government intel (they have nothing to gain from creating false information), then there really is no point talking to you. Goodbye, go put a tin foil hat on.

                • +6

@PainToad: Travel warnings are largely about the political and bureaucratic requirement to cover one's backside. They're not so useful if you're trying to make a rational assessment of risk (e.g. how likely you are to be killed by a bomb a Bali club vs how likely you are to be killed cycling home from work).

                • @PainToad: coz u just running a scare campaign in here.

i just want to show u the statistic, from the statistic u can see what is the real chance u get dead. coz u are talking
what is the chance people get blown up / dead in bali. In fact it is more chance for u dead in your own back yard when you driving
in here than in bali. that is the fact.

this is not about stupid argument. i think u just can't answer my question then u said this is stupid argument.

where is the best intel in the world? israel? uk? usa? why until now they still can't find osama? why until now they can't win
the war in iraq and afghanistan?

"But if your the type of person who argues with government intel (they have nothing to gain from creating false information), "

Ohh yeahhh, remember USA make false claim that IRAQ got mass destuction weapon? and then they start attacking IRAQ?

comme on, where is your fair dinkum mate?

u are still not answering my question, if 100 bombs a year in uk compare than 1 bomb in bali 5 years go, which one is safer?

                  • -5

@dragonrabit: I have answered your question, if you can't understand it then I truely feel sorry for you. But consdering you type like "coz" and "u get dead" it is really not surpurising. Have fun being a child, now the adults have other stuff to do.

                    • -1

@PainToad: short typo doesn't mean u are adult or child. don't change the topic.
if u can't answer the question, just say so.
focus with the question. you starting first, don't run away mate. hahhahaa

                      • -1

@dragonrabit: Seriously, you cannot equate the quantity of bombs going off with safety. Secondly you cannot equate the quality of intel with how many terrorist incidents there are.

                        • -1

@WaywardOne: so how do you meassure how safe it is and how good it is the intel?

do you remember what is the reason usa attacking iraq? is it based on truth or based on intel fabrication?

we just need to use our common sense. more bomb blow up thats for sure is not safe. would you still visit UK even there is a
                          bomb blast every week?

for normall people, their mind will decide this place is not safe anymore. the intel doesn't work / the intel has
loss their control. that is common logic person mind.

                    • @PainToad: Maybe you should consider checking your own spelling first, oh wise adult figure of ozbargain…

                • -1

                  @PainToad: LOL! Nice one PainToad!

I agree Dragonrabit. I have travelled many times to Bali, and i feel more secure there now then before the bomb. Every hotel and restuarant's have very tight security and also many shopping malls. Please dont be negative, the majority in Bali are very beautiful people.

        • "The majority in Bali are very beautiful people." ??? So are the majority of Muslims, Northern Irelanders etc. Bizarre argument.

          • +1

@kiwipride: I just wanted people not to judge the majority of what a small group do. I do agree with you kiwipride, there are good and bad in every country, and this unfortunately we cannot change.

          • @kiwipride: no wonder you guys have very small world in your mind. yes indonesia has majority muslim community, but in Bali majority is Hindu. You can wear your bikini in Bali beach, if they follow the muslim rule, no bikini, no pub in Bali.

    • Or realise that statistically the likelihood of your being a victim of terrorism is ridiculously low and go anyway (if you're really worried, avoid night clubs, major hotels and go to the less touristy areas, (they're nicer anyway))

  • Says "per person twin share" down the bottom. Doesn't say "per night".

So what's that? From $278 in total for the 6 nights for two people?

  • +1

bollocks - you don't get anything for 139. Actually $278 for room. See 'PPTS' fine print.
    edit: beaten by Jabba.

And I would not be paying a week in advance at an el-cheapo Bali pad without at least seeing the room in person.
How about booking one night, then find a nicer cheaper place?

  • im with PainToad 100%

I was in Bali when the second round of bombings happened. Was in the restaurant for lunch and my sister wanted to go back for dinner but my brother and I were keen for mud crabs so we went elsewhere. Was a scarily close shave. Still hasn't stopped me traveling. I still visit "dodgy" parts of Asia and have had some amazing times there.

Bali is a nice place and its sad that its been marred by these terrorist attacks.
In the end you can't predict these things and everything you do comes at a risk.

Indonesian currency is the RUPIAH, not the RUPEE, so I don't know what the staff at FlightCentre have been smoking…

    • And a 1,000,000 Rupees spend is about $24,000 AUD, so not really a bargain :(

  • +1

man, every time there is a deal about Bali, discussion about bombs / terrorism always follows … like this one http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/22547

    Haven't we got enough already?

  • I for one will never ever go to Bali even if they paid me. If that means I'm missing out on the time of my life, so be it….

  • The Rupiah is about 8,200 to the AUD, so 1,000,000 Rupiahs is about $120.

Citybargainhunter. Thanks for your personal (well reasoned) opinion ;-)

  • Bakung Beach Hotel is the cheapest decent hotel in Bali in the opinion of me and many long time returnees and residents.

Pool, breakfast, close to aiport, 3 mins from beach, 1 min from main road (taxi AUD1 to main shopping area), friendly staff and residents (many from Holland), etc,.

    And I don't work for them :)
