Waiting on Vita games.. Freedom Wars was pretty good freebie last month

  • +7

Just checked my junk box and received the email also, strange that they only announced the PS4 games.

There is also a free Grim Fandango theme that you can claim using this code:QH68-A5NQ-AB42

GF is a nice thing to get for free.

    • +2

Would be if I didn't just pay for it last month :(

      • I almost bought it but had a feeling that it will be free one day. Damn glad I didn't get it :-)

      • +1

        What's it like.?

      • +1

Almost bought it on the current Steam sale. Glad I waited.

    • +5

      real smooth….not

    • +2

hmmm more like your up (down) for some down votes .. :)

    • +10

The biggest reason I posted it was so no one else makes the mistake I made last month in purchasing Grim Fandango instead of waiting for it to be free. Oh well, I don't mind paying for a game of its quality.

    • Lol owned

  • Is this for AU region?

    • +1

Yes, the email was sent based on my subscription, which is AU.

  • +2

So… What's the cheapest way to get PS plus?

    • +3

Keep an eye out for discounts on Psn cards (in the last 6 months, both Coles and Woolies have had discounts on $30 Psn cards).

Alternatively, every now and then, Sony offers a deal on PSN subscription online (last time was buy 12mths sub and get 3 months extra for free).

    • +2

      Build your own

  • +1

Is it true that these games are lost from your account if you don't continue to pay your PS Plus fees, whereas for XBOX once you have a free game you have it forever, even if you stop paying for XBOX Live?

    • +9

From my understanding, you can't play the games if you allow your subscription to lapse, but you can access them again when you renew. I don't believe you lose them entirely.

    • +1

Its true that you can't play them once you stop your subscription, but once you start it back up you have access to the games again (only the ones that you have added to cart and 'purchased' during the free months). So its best just to add each game that comes along.

Not sure about Xbox live sorry, that would be a good deal if you could just cancel your subscription after you have a bunch of good games and keep playing them! Hope someone else knows this answer

    • +3

X360 maybe. Xbone copied PSplus for their free games model and PSplus copied Xbox for charging so they are identical now when it comes to ps4 and xbone

    • +1

thats correct on both accounts, xbox 360 you keep them forever (dunno bout xbone) and on psn+ you can only play them while you have the subscription :)

    • +2

For both Xbox One and PS4, once your subscription has lapsed you will no longer be able to access your bonus games (you can play them again though if you renew your subscription).

Xbox 360 was the exception, allowing players to keep access to their "free" games after subscription expiry.

    • Note that your game save on PSN cloud will be erased after few months, 6 i think.
Unless you point game saves to your PS HDD

    • Yep. PS Plus is just a rental subscription service. Once you stop paying your fees, you lose access to the digital games library component of the rental service and online multiplayer component of the other games you have hard copies of.

    • When I didn't sub for 1 month, there was some games that were still able to be used, for some reason..

  • Yup can confirm that 100% in regards to ps plus

  • Nooooo…. Amplitude !!!!! I was hoping it was that instead !!!

  • Can anyone suggest and good deals for PSN cards at the moment? My sub is almost up.

    • Check out Bisbury.com

very unimpressed with PS+ for the past two months.. I mean King's Quest is only part 1 of a multi-episode game, part 1 on PC is only $1 to trial.. so essentially they've rented us a trial game under PS+.

Making the games PERMANENT like XBOX GOLD might be useful, but otherwise frankly it's getting harder to want to pony up to extend PS+ membership.

    • I'd pay just for the multiplayer and I don't mind 'some' of the Indies so far but for stuff like Knack and Killzone which are now over 2 years old to not have been added to PS+ and still thrown in sales for $20-$25 it is pretty disappointing.

      • +5

I'd pay just for the multiplayer

Why exactly? Sony don't even host gameplay servers, the games are virtually all peer to peer backend or the developers have to foot the bill for dedicated servers themselves.

        • +1

Obviously because I want to play online modes.

Secondly, it's like two hours of work for the cost of a yearly sub.

      • +1

Same here, I avoid multiplayer so I won't be renewing again.

    • My understanding is that only the 360 games are permanent. The Xbox One games are "rented" in the same way IS Plus games are.

      • This is correct. XBox ONE games are contingent on subscribing, just like PSN+. Don't know why someone voted you down.

        • +1

Unfortunately, people don't tend to vote up and down what's correct, but rather how they feel about it.

        • +3

          @Michael15286:

Maybe they thought IS Plus was a premium service for terrorists? Fixed your neg anyway ;)

        • @dazweeja: Haha thank you, I missed that little error of mine :)

  • Bout time it got announced. now i can get Hand of Fate

  • nice i have not missed out anything good (imo) since my membership expired 2 months ago. i guess when my xbox gold membership expires, i will decide which console to keep and which to go (on ebay or gumtree).

    • -5

Sell them both and get a PC. Even the lowest end PC's blow a console out the water in terms of performance and value.

      • +2

why the negs? i'ts true.. I have both current gen consoles and a 3 year old PC and the PC kicks arse over the consoles.. there's only a few exclusives on the consoles (which is why I have them) and to be honest I'm regretting getting the XBOX ONE as there arent enough exclusives (and I hate the user interface.. much prefer the 360 one).

        • -3

Salty peasants struggle with basic math and logic it would seem.

        • I'm regretting getting the XBOX ONE as there arent enough exclusives (and I hate the user interface.. much prefer the 360 one).

          Sadly, I must concur…on both counts! :(

      • +1

        Nothing grosser than PC elitists.

        • I don't know, delusional console fanboys are pretty bad. "PlayStation this" & "Xbox that" or the most evangelical: the Nintendo zealot whose fanaticism suggests they own stock in the company or something.

  • +1

Soooo glad I didn't buy Grim Fandango when it was on sale. That being said, it's an amazing game and you'll get hours of enjoyment.

  • Damnit just bought GF on the steam sale a few days ago. Hardware rivals might be fun, though I wonder if it has splitscreen?

  • +1

the art style bothers me a little, is it easy to get over once you start playing?

  • Medal of Honor Warfighter
    Dragon Age Origins
    Nihilumbra
    Legends of War: Patton

  • still spewin grim fandango not on xbone

  • -4

May want to adjust the post title as neither the games nor the service are free.

Good to see no real aa or aaa titles for ps4, no surprise xbox one and ea access are catching up to ps4 sales. Starting to become a joke

  • Good for those gamers who wanted these titles. Personally, I think the games this round are pretty meh. Last December was a good month - it's a shame they only pop up once in a blue moon. Wolfenstein, The Tomb Raider remaster, Sleeping Dogs remaster, Thief, Evolve, Murdered: Soul Suspect, Knack and Killzone could of easily been offered.

Indies should have their own subscription service.

    • i mean, it's not like sony's holding back on the AAA titles just because they can, it's in their best interests not to reduce sales for games that are still popular by putting them for free on ps+. i guess they try to choose a balance between games that they hope people will enjoy but might not have otherwise bought

      • The games aren't free though. They are paid for by the service/subscription fee.

  • +1

Upvote for accurately describing this, rather than calling these "free" games like people usually do.

PS anyone who hasn't played Grim Fandango is missing out, it's a PC adventure classic.

    • OP didn't correctly list it, he actually listed it as "Free Games". But the mods changed the title for accuracy and removed any references to "free", being that it's a service you pay for to rent rent random games.

    • +1

thanks for the 'reminder' - I just checked Steam and I already have GF, so I then checked my Humble Bundle account and it appears I either bought it there, or it was part of a bundle of games.

Yes, looking on isthereanydeal.com shows me that GF is currently $2.99 USD on Steam, but it was in the Dawn of the Devs bundle from Humble Bundle (but I doubt I paid the $13 USD for all the games in that bundle, so most likely I bought it for $3.74 USD from the Humble Bundle store, as it came with a Steam key AND a DRM free copy).

PC gaming is so much cheaper and probably why I feel hard done by with mediocre rental games on PS+ and XBOX Gold.

      • sigh.. seems almost everyone is getting Grim Fandango Remastered this month.. I expect it's because Double Fine will be wanting to gain interest in their Full Throttle Remastered and Day of the Tentacle Remastered games coming in 2016 and 2017.

The Humble Monthly Bundle ($12 USD) for January 2016 ALSO has Grim Fandango Remastered in it, as well as a heap of other games:

The Talos Principle - Steam key only
Grim Fandangdo Remastered - Steam key AND DRM free copy
Spelunky - Steam and DRM free copy
The Masterplan - Steam and DRM free copy
Mushroom 11 - Steam and DRM free copy
A Fistful of Gun - Steam and DRM free copy.

If you don't already subscribe, then if you do now you also unlock Alien: Isolation - which will be in the February bundle.

Not bad, but I already had the first three games in my Steam account.

  • I had a post at length on PSNProfiles about how this is shit. It got a butt load of likes, so everyone else agrees it's shit too.

No surprise yet again, more like PlayStation Minus.

  • +1

So happy about Grim..I almost bought it when I saw it on sale a few weeks ago.

  • Grim Fandango is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO good. Still holds up amazingly, remaster is really well done too.
