Got really excited for a moment, then remembered I have an e-mount camera :(

    • You have the right one, A-mount is likely to be discontinued in near future.

    • +1

get the A mount adapter for E, LA-EA2, then u can get excited regardless of A or E…

      • the Cannon FE to Sony E mount adapters have autofocus issues right? is it the same with the Sony A to E mount adapter? I think I read somewhere that it worked fine but I'm not 100% sure.

        • The canon to E-mount adapter is a 3rd party thing. The A-mount to E-mount adapter is an official Sony product and performs quite well according to reviews.

As for the lenses, I was thinking of getting one of the Tamrons with a Nikon mount. They didn't have good reviews.

        • @trongy:

The recently released 18-200mm VC Tamron has much better reviews than its predecessor and isn't much more expensive.

  • +1

    Ha. Me too!

the first two Di II lens are APS-C, only the Tamron AF 70-300mm Di LD is full frame, but $99 isn't really a bargain for ex-demo, seems you can get a new one for less than $150

BTW, you can get a A-mount to E-mount adapter for use these lens on your E-mount camera, but not all the functions will work properly …

    • +1

Do you have links to the sub $150 lens please?

      • -8

        http://www.topbuy.com.au/catalog/product/view/id/46140?utm_s…

I know this price is not for A-Mount, but it does represent the value of the lens itself

        • +4

So your original statement is incorrect as you can't actually get one for sub $150.

        • +3

The cheapest I can find (not counting scam sites like camerasky or valuebasket) for an A mount is around $175 delivered. Seems a bit like you plucked a figure out of the air then found a different version which fit the price you quoted. $75 off for a demo with 2 years warranty from a bricks and mortar store, is pretty reasonable IMHO.

        • -3

@tightarse: normally the price for the same lens over different mount should be the same, e.g. Nikon vs canon. A mount is not really that popular, that's why not every seller have A mount type available. That why I said, it does represent the value of the lens itself. Anyway, it's all up to you guys, if you think this is a great value, then go for it…

          @bctransit:

          please stop lol

  • So Best pick for my A6000 if I already have the 16-50 and the 55-210? I'd like to be able not need to swap the lenses over so much when going from wider shots to zoomed shots at the football.

And, as per @bctransit comment, would it be a "bargain"?

Is the 18-200 a reasonable option and a good price for a used lens? Would I get better value from the 18-270?

    • +1

A6000 is E-Mount, so unless you have an adapter, none of the above will work for you.

      • +2

Ah, yeah oops. Got a bit excited. My wallet thanks you.

  • +1

I have the A6000 too, nearly bought a Lens last night, but going to play a bit more first and hope they drop in price a bit. Flyerone I have been going through the same scenario, the 18-105 Lens is an option and there is a larger one up to 200mm, check out the A6000 thread on Whirlpool, lots of advice there from people who have various Lenses. Cheers.

    • Any bargain deal for A6000? Really wanna get one

-$150 (although I feel that the A7 full frame is more value for your money as it'll be more future proof compared to APS-C)
you can get the a6000 for pretty cheap anywhere (usually drop into digidirect (or even Ted's although I feel Ted's are often slightly more expensive) and bargain with them… that's what I did for my A7)

    • Thanks mate.

  • +4

Don't bother getting any of these if you intention is to get an adapter to mount on your current APS-C emount body. It will make the camera alot bigger and bulky and there's no IS.

    • Will they work with my D700?

      • +1

        no

    • Exactly why I'm not buying any. :-)

  • No canon love

  • get extra $10 if you join ClubTeb !!

  • Need a Tamron 70-200 VC for canon D:

    • +1

I need one for nikon :P

      • I had that it's not that good

  • Argh got so excited when I saw this, thought it works go perfectly with my new d3300. But no :(

  • It's not bad glass for semi pro camera, I own tamron macro lense which is great on A77, I can post a link of sample image if anyone want, but for professional use I would highly recommend Ziess lenses for Sony A and E mount I use them on A7r2.
If you need it for family/personal use , I would say go for it

  • no love for Nikon D3300

  • Can I use these for my Sony A55?

    • Yes

      • thanks mate :)

        • I currently have this one:
Tamron AF 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Lens

Do you think it's worth it to buy one of these ex-demos?

          Thanks

        • In my opinion, no.

        • +1

          @homersyd:

Id probably pay a bit extra and go for the 18-270. Very nice reviews.

The 18-200 is a bit of a dud apparently.

        • @westhaus:

The 2015 VC release of the 18-200 has gotten much better reviews. Although it's not on sale it is a lens worth considering.

  • great post, BUT, just be careful of the condition of the lens, ive seen some of Teds in-store demo's, they have taken a beating!

  • ThanksTA, got the 18-270, reviews say it has better IQ than the 18-200, and is also much quieter, so better for videos. And the Sony SLT's are awesome for video (I have A57 and A65).
