Unless they go ahead with the fare structure revamp and your birthday is after it comes into effect!

      http://www.smh.com.au/nsw/end-looms-for-150-million-opal-car…

The daily maximum that commuters can pay for public transport would also increase from $15 to $18 Monday to Friday, and the $2.50 Sunday cap would be replaced by a $7.20 weekend cap.

      • +9

        no more Sunday adventures. :(

        • U can still adventure on s

Now I just need a plane ticket up and back. Any cheap flights for end of November?

    • +2

I think Tiger Air does $40 returns if you book REALLY early. I did see one for August, but not sure for November.
      No guarantees either

      • Wow! The petrol would cost more than $20 each way! I'm heading to TigerAir.com.au!! What's the chance the flight will be cancelled though? 75% chance? Probs.

      • Holy wow $40 return.. never seen it that cheap before but that is very impressive..

        • Yes, I'm quite happy to pay a dinner out's worth of money on a flight to sydney. It's quite great

I've issue with the .dat attachment in the email - 404 Sorry page not found

  • +9

WTF The voucher is in .dat format!!!
I think it should be in pdf format & changing the extension doesn't work.
Their system has screwed up & sent the wrong file.

edit: I worked it out you open it in notepad & there is an url but the link is broken.

    • +3

I got attachment.dat as well. I've just emailed them (Taronga Zoo) requesting for a resolution. I think it's a bug in their system.

      • Any news on this?

        • +2

Just got a reply from them today:

"Thank you for your email. We are aware of this issue and are currently working to fix the website. We apologise for the inconvenience. If your birthday is today or tomorrow (Sat 2 / Sun 3) please bring photo ID that shows your date of birth.

The problem will be resolved on Monday and then you should receive a new email with the correct attachment. Please contact us again if the new email does not arrive."

          From "[email protected]"

        • @discrete: I just received their email, and yes, the voucher is linked within. :)

        • @discrete: Me too! Good news, my bday is next week!

        • @kyteflyer: cool! enjoy your birthday! :) btw, if you aren't already aware, Ozbargain has a bargain page specifically for birthday deals - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/list_of_birthday_deals

        • @discrete:

Do you have a link to the voucher? I try downloading the dat file and then opening it in notepad. There is a link to a website but then when I go to it, I get a 404 error. My birthday is tomorrow

        • @first in line: Hi, I've just replied to you via Ozbargain's private messaging system.

  • +3

Guys WAKE UP this is one of their tactics to get us into the zoo.

    • Of course because you're not going there alone.

      • +16

I would for $1! I go alone to the movies, footy, ect. Why not my 31st birthday? #foreveralone

        • You need some friends - the non imaginary type of course!

        • awwwwwwssssssss

        • +1

@Trishool: I do have friends. But often they don't want to see the same movie. Or are busy and can't go to the footy. I don't mind, especially if it's a movie I really want to see.

        • @sagitox: Dude my comment was in jest, not serious. I get where you're coming from, as I have on the rare occasion gone to watch some movies on my own. It's normal.

        • +2

          @sagitox: friends are overrated

    • +3

Sneaky buggers trying to entice me and my daughter to the zoo for a combined total of $1 on a Monday morning.
I almost fell for it too. Thanks for the wake up call!

    • +4

are they trying to create new displays??

  • +12

People born on 29 February rejoice. 2016 is a leap year! Happy New Year to all.

    • +2

Yes indeed! This year I don't need to lie about my birthdate to get a freebie.

      • +4

No wonder you are irate. I feel your pain.

  • +12

Why do I have to pay to go to a zoo, when I can just sit in the kids rooms for a few minutes for the zoo experience?

    • +11

at zoo they cant reach you.

  • Thanks OP! Surely at least one family member will be willing to take my toddler to the zoo on their birthday. Fingers crossed

  • this $1 would be on channel 9 news very soon, after the break

  • +7

This is a tough one. $1 entry is great, but "you’ll get a Taronga 100 birthday badge to wear…it means all of us in the Zoo will know it’s your birthday, so look out for some special moments!" cramps my antisocial style. I'm picturing a group of smiling zoo employees accosting me with a muffin - single lit candle - singing happy birthday.

    • +2

I with ya, bro and your antisocial style! fist pump #foreveralone

    • +5

      Antisocial unite!

      • +10

        …preferably in separate locations!

    • Birthday badge can go in a pocket, surely.

  • The attachment from reg email is https://taronga.org.au/sites/default/files/taronga-dollar-bi…

    What's this?

  • +2

I posted on their Facebook page & they have replied back:

"Hi Cheryl, sorry for the confusion and thank you for bringing this to our attention. We will remedy this issue and resend your voucher on Monday as a pdf. If your birthday is tomorrow or Sunday please reply back so that we can ensure you have access to this promotion when you need it. Thanks and sorry again, Taronga."

  • +3

great deal, wish you could use it on the weekend before/after your birthday instead of the actual day, for those of us who have jobs….! but alas,, a great offer/deal anyway - thankyou!

  • Good birthday present

  • brilliant if your birthday is on dec 31

    • +1

My birthday is on 31/12…woohoo NYE 2016 sorted! :)

  • Do zoos close on public holidays. If so many will be disappointed.

    • +3

Most zoos open 365 days of the year or close to that as they need staff regardless to look after the animals. Taronga is no exception.

  • leap year babies rejoice…skip work and go zoo on a monday

  • Thanks OP, my family will enjoy re-visiting Taronga Zoo.

  • +5

yeh but how much does it cost to exit?

    • +2

hahahaha. Good one! Answer = $45 (Admission is normally $46) :P

      • +2

        BYO food/water for starter

  • Has anyone received the voucher yet? I just completed the form but haven't received anything.

Edit: voucher received. Didn't take long.

  • +1

The voucher looks generic. It will be interesting to see if they cross check your name upon entry.

  • Terrible deal! There will be heaps more people walking around asking you "gotta dollar"

  • Dam! My bday was 2 weeks ago!
