don't see the value here when Telstra offers the same quota essentially with the added benefit of splitting the cost up $50 at a time giving you 5GB for 365 days, and when you run out of data you recharge for another 5GB at $50 and extended the expiry date by another 365 date.

    https://www.telstra.com.au/tablets/prepaid-for-tablets

at the bottom of the page it says free Telstra Air access until june this year. Don't know if that means quota free. Worth investigating.

    • But does Telstra allow you to add credit for calls? Or data only?

      • Data only. It is a different solution or you need to carrier an additional wifi modem.

      • I stand corrected, its a data only plan… still a bit exxy for amaysim …

looking at amaysim site, the data plan doesn't specifially say it allows voice calls… so dunno meh

        • On Amaysim you can go on their prepaid PAYG and get a 10gb data pack at the same time on the same sim. And any credit on the sim can be used towards purchasing the data pack. That way it's a flexible plan with long expiry.

      Telstra 10gb $100
      Amaysim 10gb $70.???

      • No fan of Telstra here but it's not a 'like for like' comparison.

Amaysim is useless pretty much anywhere north of Preston (try using it on a train to Albury: you're outta luck by about North Melbourne and it's spotty until you pull up at Albury Station).

I switched to the Amaysim '6 months for $30 - Unlimited calls and 2GB/mo data' from my old TPG plan, and I can't even get reception on the staircase in our house (on top of Flemington Hill): I basically have to be next to a window to get reception. Sure the walls are double brick, but the Amaytsim;s performance is like I'm in a Faraday cage. If I go to the dunny mid-call, a call on the Amaysim sim will drop out with probability 0.8… whereas the Telstra SIM (in the same phone) does not have the same issue (The Lovely's Telstra SIM also has no issues).

Also, consider the deflation rate for data; by the time the first 5GB runs out, the other telcos will be offering 10GB for $30 (and Optus might have gotten its 4G act together outside of main streets and CBDs).

        • Reception varies from area to Area. Totally different issue.

        • If it's anything like Queensland rail, long distance trains using Telstra won't be too much better. If you are away from towns on a train then you normally don't get reception from any carriers. The mobile towers don't seem to cater for railway. If you are driving on a main highway it's different, but I found Optus coverage usually are just as good.

  • I got $15 8gb/mth for 6 mnths from Amaysim off a mates rates email…

    • That's a good deal…….
      With unlimited calls/text?or just data?

unlimited…email said choose any unlimited plan for $15/mth for 6mths…naturally I chose the highest which was with 8GB!
though when I went to do it, I couldn't get it to work, so online chatted them. None of them had heard of it and I had to fwd the email to the mgr. Then they had to honour it and after alot of back and forth, I had it activated
