  • Thanks - picked up the CRUMPLER Low Level Aviator Cabin Luggage. Looks like it is now out of stock.

How is the quality of those Qantas hard case?

  • I bought the low level aviator action daypack to run with…even after a few km the straps start cutting in to your shoulders. Not a bad looking pack, but would skip it if you are buying it as a pack to run with, which is what the salesperson at Crumpler in Fitzroy sold it to me as.

Which are better. The ones in this thread from Myer or these ones from COTD?.

Beware, the Qantas cases come with a $200-500 fuel surcharge depending on size.

What do you mean by this?

      • +3

Cynical comment from a QFF'er being taken for a ride when trying to redeem points for award Seats. Qantas choose to tack on ridiculously high fuel surcharges which most other airlines don't. So our points are worth a lot less than Most of us think they are.

        • To make you feel better, we paid $1200 tax for one ticket, NY Melbourne return. Tax was US$850.

        • Which they've decided to review and have cut some fees - http://www.pointhacks.com.au/qantas-economy-redemption-price…

        • @dazzywazzy:

not by much (at least on the routes I am interested in)

          eg

          SYD-HKG economy return:

          before - 60,000 points + $450 in charges
          after - 56,000 points + $360 in charges

compare to say Cathay Pacific for the same route

          econ - 45,000 points + approx $200 charges
          prem econ - 54,000 points + approx $200 charges

        • @FW190:

Agreed right there for that specific route for sure, I'm sure the cuts will help others with other routes though.

Having flown Cathy Business ADL-HKG the product and points value are amazing and would highly recommend.

        • @FW190: Are you comparing getting CX flights using QFF points? Or using points from Cathay's frequent flyer program?

Curious as I always thought booking other airlines using QFF points is always more expensive (in number of points required) than booking Qantas flights..

          @kelea:

          using CX/Asia Miles points

from my playing around with making dummy bookings, usually if you use FF points from one airline to make bookings for another airline, it will cost you an arm and a leg in both points and $$$

only issue with CX/AM is that it is harder to earn point through everyday spending in Australia (Amex's rewards program is probably the best one in terms of earn rate and transfer ratio)

if you are already invested in QFF then definitely

for me, I only have a few thousand points through Woolworth's rewards card, so I am not really tied to QFF

OTOH I have like 40k of Flybuys points which is not particularly useful (for a while there was no airlines affiliated with FB……), I might have to do the dumb thing and cash them out in shopping vouchers……

        • @FW190: Thanks, wasn't aware of that and will look into it further. Appreciate the info.

    • I will just buy the Qantas case and fly with different airline then…

<<Shanghai Soft Side Spinnercase Large 77cm Red 4.2kg>> says in the description "Suitable to carry on board" surely that's not as carry-on? It looks way too big.
That's 159cm linear dimensions and the Qantas website (http://www.qantas.com/travel/airlines/carry-on-baggage/globa…) says 115cm maximum. "Carry on board" is a very bad description of something that should be checked in!

    • You are also giving away 4.2kg with just the luggage lol. Given budget airlines only allow 7-10kg carry on there's not much else you can fit in there.

      • you can put your ticket, passport and travel itinerary in there and you'll be over the carry on weight limit

  • nevermind, ended up getting QANTAS Shanghai Soft Side Spinnercase Medium 66cm Red are these any good? worth the price?

  • can someone help me find some luggage tags?

Plenty at Reject Shop or $2 shop :)

      • Free at the airport check in counter.

I got Antler carry on suitcase from COTD deal for 29 bucks delivered, cant beat that… weighs only 2.4kg too… PERFECT

  • Crumpler Dry Red 5 - River Green is also on sale for $112.5. Great price if you want one!

    • Have you tried it? Great price, but've never had this ones..

      • I have one and would highly recommend it for travelling. Bought it at 40% for about $150.
I opted for it rather than a conventional backpack because it looks more professional (I have the black one).
It's really sturdy and the back is padded so it's comfortable to carry all day, it can also fit a lot. Best to read a review from the crumpler website though if you are interested.

  • Got the crumpler back pack thanks heaps…..wanted one for ages but was too pricey :)

Those hard and soft carry ons look heavy to me.

Imo a carry on ought be be under 2kg.

  • I wouldn't buy any of them,as they are far too heavy for me,my travel pack and luggage never go over 1.8kg :)

The Vivolite in blue for $111 is pretty much sold out. Tried to add it yesterday, says out of stock. Some stores say available, but when you call up they say stock levels are wrong, they have none in stock since last year. That's the bad news. Good news is that although purple is sold out online, it can be more easily found in store and the right staff member will sell it to you for the 'online only' price of $111.65! Bought it from Bourke St, lovely tall lady who also speaks Spanish was VERY helpful in trying to source the blue and sold me the purple. Better than the HS MV+, can detail differences if anyone's interested.

  • Crumpler Dry Red is out of stock :(
