Dear OzBargainers,

We're excited to be back with the same 20% discount, plus 3 extra, limited-edition flavours on top of our existing range:

What on earth is Biltong?

Biltong is an air-dried meat delicacy similar to jerky, made from Aussie beef topside, marinated in our famous spice formula. Low in fat and high in protein, it's the perfect any-time snack.
The Traditional Sliced Biltong is more moist and less tough than jerky. Flavours:

The Biltong/Jerky Snapsticks are a bit more tough. Flavours:

Biltong.com.au is probably Australia's largest online retailer of biltong, trading since 2007.

So, where's the beef?

Simply buy 1 kg or more of any of our incredible meat products (mixing and matching allowed) to get 20% off using the coupon code HAPPY NEW YEAR (enter during checkout)

That means you can buy 1kg of Traditional Biltong ("soft biltong") from $45.59! Usual price $56.99.
The more expensive yet incredibly popular Biltong Snapsticks (with 4 different flavour options) are from $55.99 per kg. Usual price $69.99.
You can mix and match meat products. e.g. 4 x 250g of different meat products.

A shipping discount would be pretty awesome…

    • +10

      Thanks for your feedback.
I feel your pain. Shipping costs are quite horrendous so we actually subsidise our shipping, and cap it at $10.
To give you an idea, to send 1kg by Express Post to Melbourne using a 3kg Express Post Satchel, will cost us $14.06.
Why don't Australia Post offer 1kg satchels? I really wish they would! :)

      • Do they not offer better rates if you were to open an account with them?
Or is there not enough volume through you for them to open one?

        • +1

We do have an account with them, but we get the same rates as the public going to an AusPost branch. We spend over $80,000 per year on Australia Post. I have complained to our account manager and even asked if we can have a face-to-face account manager but it's been no use. :(

        • @biltong2go:

Damn sorry to hear about that service especially with that revenue.

A lot of couriers are too big to fail and their customer service / sales force tend to reflect that.

Might be worth looking into alternate couriers? Even if what I said above was true at least they may be able to beat the satchel rate you're currently on.

          ,,,

          Just placed order also #9821

Thanks again for a great deal (and last deal).

I was going to PM you, but will ask here as it may be helpful to others.

How long should I keep a pack (when its still sealed in the pack/unopened), before storing in a fridge/freezer? (cant recall which).

    Cheers

    • +2

Most of the time, our customers eat the product right away and it's gone within a day or two.
      However if that's not practical:
If it's 'wet' or 'average-dryness' Traditional Biltong then the product should be either frozen, or alternatively kept out of plastic and ideally placed in the fridge (don't use any container). This is to prevent mould. We don't add any nasty preservatives and our products are always made fresh each week.
If the product is 'dry', such as our Snapsticks, the product is a lot more resilient, almost like other jerky, and you have several days before mould may form inside plastic, however we still recommend you keep it out of plastic as soon as practical, and ideally store it in the fridge (don't use any container).
      I hope this helps

1kg of biltong in a day? Ouch!

        • +3

It is possible! Though last time I tried, it ended it a very sore jaw the next day… (But still no regrets!)

  • +2

So much for going on a diet… thanks OP :)

  • Can you order online and pick up (I'm only a few km's away)

    • +2

      Hi Willy,
Pickup is possible, as long as the order is placed online, and we would have to refund your shipping after your order is placed.
The workaround is if you choose 'pay by bank transfer' and transfer the correct amount minus shipping.

Please be sure to add a note (or send a followup email) that you will be collecting your order.

      • Can I do the same (order online and have a shipping refund) at Chatswood please?

  • Couldn't resist a kilo of mixed snapsticks…love these things! :)

Hey OP, any chance of bringing the Chilli Chutney flavour back???

    • +2

We've had a lot of requests lately to bring it back. We'll probably make it our next limited edition flavour again. Thanks for the feedback :)

  • +2

Great prices! Just ordered 6 packs of snapsticks. Hope they're good. First time trying snapsticks.

  • Do you offer samples? Happy to order some original but keen to try some other flavors..

Are you guys gonna make a low sodium version? This is my favourite snack, but the sodium really does kill it (we're talking about litres of water afterwards).

    • +2

It's true that the sodium content is relatively high in biltong / jerky as salt (sodium chloride) is part of the curing process: it draws out moisture and it also kills bacteria and helps preserve the product. The Traditional Biltong is generally lower in salt because it's made thicker (the salt is mostly on the outside). To be honest it's very rare that someone complains about the salt content or sodium levels, but we are working on ways to lower it but nothing to announce yet. Thanks for the feedback.

      • Thanks for the response. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love your biltongs! There are literally people lurking around my desk at work for those too lol From reading off the nutrition information on the site, it appears they all have the same sodium content though (2.2g/100g). Looking forward to your new and improved products. In the meantime, I'll just have to limit my daily allowance :)

Great product and great service. Have been buying from these guys on and off for a few years. Had an issue with the product last time and it was sorted out quickly and without any trouble.

Hi Store Rep: How long does it take for the package to arrive Queensland (Brisbane suburb)? If I order now and it can't arrive before 26th Jan, I'll demand cashback by using Paypal, is that acceptable?

    • +2

It should definitely arrive before January 26th (15 days time), however just in case, please add a note with your deadline (it can be sooner if necessary). Normally the guarantee works a little bit differently: if your package arrives unreasonably late you could just send it back to us within a reasonable timeframe for a refund of whatever you send back (generally you would end up paying for the return shipping). Effectively you are asking for free return shipping if it arrives that late: I would be happy to cover your shipping costs in such a case.
      I hope this helps :)

      • Effectively you are asking for free return shipping if it arrives that late ->

by 26th I will start my travel around half of Australia, eating the biltongs on the way, and will no longer return to Brisbane to live. I will ask the post office if they can return late packages on behalf of me by ordering it to their street address in the first place (I often use their address instead of my street address, part of MyPost service, they also save their postman's effort). They should be able to do that.

        • Don't think i've ever had an order take longer than 1 week to QLD. You should be fine.

        • Hmm I can see that is a different scenario. Thank you for explaining. :)

  • +2

    Ordered 3 Kilo's Thanks Rep.

    You're Biltong is the best.

  • Can I order and pick it up from your Marrickville market stall on the weekend?

    • +1

As long as you place the order online and add a note about collection from Marrickville Market, we can then send it to Marrickville Market for your collection. We would then have to refund your shipping, or if you select that you are paying by "Bank Transfer", transfer the amount less shipping.

  • After I paid with Paypal, I got this error:

Warning: file_get_contents(https://simpshopifyapps.com/shopify-google-trusted-store/storeData.php?shop=biltongtogo.myshopify.com&secret=[masked]&orderId=2389653825): failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! (There are no other on-page information except this error, no site header etc.)

To protect your business I masked the secret parameter in this error message. Since Order ID is 2389653825 I assume your system took my order anyway, but you better check. Invoice ID is c5908600833.1 and paypal transaction ID is 3YW079362H1987021

    • Many thanks for your order.
I can confirm your order has been received and I have forwarded a copy to your email address starting with "w******"
Thank you for reporting the error message to us, sorry about that. It occurs at the very end, after your order is confirmed, where it redirects the user to information about Google Trusted Stores. I will get them to work on that. Thanks

      • I'm told the technical issue has now been resolved.

        • yep.. no error here when placing my order through paypal :)

Rep, a quick question about the "wet" product. With my order i chose only 3x 250g bag of Traditional Sliced Biltong wet, dry and average to try them out.

          Order #59758

Is that safe to be posted Unrefrigerated in a "hot" post office truck (we are having a hot summer in NSW).. if so please change them all to DRY! ..

          thanks

        • +1

          @vid_ghost:
          Many thanks for your order.
It shouldn't be an issue especially because your address is quite local and shipping will be quick after we dispatch it.
          Thanks!

        • @biltong2go:

          Ok, Great thanks.

  • +2

Ordered via PayPal. Went thru OK.

Thanks for the coupon. It reminds me to order more of your biltong!

  • Its not adding shipping to my order if I pay with PayPal. $91.18 for 2 kgs.

    Edit:

I added my address details and completed checkout with shipping added, but as I said above, I was able to press the PayPal logo before I'd entered my address and email, and it did not add shipping.

Might want to fix this Mr Biltong.

    Thanks.
