    What does this even do?
    I found it useless

    Not worth even downloading

allows you to turn off the screen & lock the device :)

Well the power button on most devices takes that cake…

        • +1

In a very niche circumstance (happened to me coincidentally), the power button might break. cough… almost every early-production nexus 5 ever

I ended up using a combination of double-tap to wake and a kernel tweak which turns off the screen with a gesture along the menu bar. The apps like linked above are for those perhaps without root and who like annoying floating things on their apps.

So what is this good for??

      absolutely nothing

Not every deal is useful for all ozbargainers, this is one of those. It is a good to have app if your device's lock/unlock button stops working or doesn't work.

      • Somebody's thinking outside the box…

      • oh hoh, oh
        War huh yeah
        What is it good for?

So im guessing rather than having to turn off the screen, you will press this icon on your home screen. With my s6 edge, I'm always fooling around with my side lock screen button. It's not easy to turn off when face down. Worth a try I suppose?! Thanks OP.

  • There is another similar but much more useful app, we can turn off screen by double tap empty space on screen. But sadly can't double tap to turn on…

    • You need to get yourself an LG :)

      • i had The LG G Pro 2 before.. but lack of custom rom and xda support, and no telstra fequency

        • Have a one of those phones and its pretty good for what it is. the knock knock on off is very very handy. However it only seems to work properly with the default launcher (have tried a few others and knock knock either doesnt work or only works to turn off but not on etc…)

        • @smurfinaus: yeah i think LG pretty much like ios they lock many things

  • Or you could just double tap the notification bar? Anybody with a custom rom should be able to use that and some launchers support it on any app i.e. Nova Launcher…

Yeah, you can lock the screen through a variety of gestures, usually available in any good launcher.

For the technically savvy, can even use Tasker to create their own lockscreen gesture.

I want the opposite, I would like to use touch screen to wake-up the phone rather than pressing physical button all the time..

If you have an LG device I believe they all have double-tap screen to wake, as well as having a 'knock code' where you define 4 quadrants of the display and tap them in sequence to unlock.

If you don't have an LG device, there's a 'KnockOn' app on Play but it apparently drains battery — I guess it's keeping the phone awake to 'listen' to the user touching the screen.

For Nexus 6P users, using the below command in Terminal Emulator on the phone will enable double-tap to wake. However this is not a permanent change and won't survive a reboot.

        echo 1 > /sys/devices/soc.0/f9924000.i2c/i2c-2/2-0070/input/input0/wake_gesture

      • I just got a G4 and the knock code that you can use to wake up the phone as well as unlock it is great. It seems to work most of the time and from what I can tell battery drain while the screen is off is very minimal

      • Thanks mate…a friend of mine needs this, he uses a htc sensation xl and has a damaged power on/off button and apparently no one locally repairs it..hopefully this would give him a solution temporarily.

        cheers

  • I just like the old android 4.3 screen where you could add apps of your choice, drag the icon to launch the program. I want that back.

Maybe I'm stupid but 4.4 stuffed that up. And I bought a buggered android 5 phone on a stock google rom where all it cares about is whether you swipe left or right (utterly irritating).

  • I installed Smart Screen On/Off for my wife's Sony. Great little app. She has a case with a flap. When its closed, it automatically powers off. When its open, it automatically powers on. Its all done without having to bother with pressing any button. The app senses uses the proximity sensor to sense when the flap is open/closed.

    • simple..yet smart I hope this could work for htc too

    • but when playing games and accidentally cover the prox sensor, screen will off :(

Why would you post an iOS app on the Play Store?

  • Not worth it when Power Toggles is free and provides lots more functionality.
