          @jv:

          "or 48 bottles of water…"

You can't get 48 bottles of water for $10 with that deal.

      • Normal price is $109

You should mention that then in the title and/or description, otherwise your post reads like SPAM…

    is this like….apple tv but….telstra?

    • +5

It took Balls to say that…

    • -7

Like apple TV, but ZTE rebranded as Telstra - so basically worse than just "Telstra".

      • +5

        It's a lightly customised roku

      • +3

Not a ZTE product. It's a dumbed down and rebranded Roku 2.

        • -1

Are these different to the ones Telstra was advertising a few months back? They did have a ZTE device that was basically the next tbox, though they weren't calling it 'tbox' anymore. Assumed this was it..

  • Bargain of the year.

  • I thought that if you call them you might get it for free anyway?

  • +1

Got this for free with Telstra. It will suffice for now till I get a smart TV. Not a bad unit.

  • +4

Telstra TV is unique in that (AFAIK) it is the only box that has all 5 catchup services plus Netflix, Stan and Presto.

The only downside is you can't directly enter DNS details into the unit, so for anyone with Getflix etc, the DNS details have to be entered at the router level…which may be a non-issue in the near future anyway:

Edit: Oh - and I couldn't see anywhere to enter the promo code after going through to checkout?

    • Don't think it has Ten Play.

      • It does…became available late November 2015 from memory?

        • Really? Might have to download it then.

Bad move by Netflix if they decide to block 'geo dodgers'.

        • @TheOneWhoKnocks:

Yup Ten Play is on there as is a seperate 7Tennis app with 4 streams of all the major live games to choose from. Very cool of 7 to do this.

    • I read somewhere that hulu were much more aggressively targeting 'geo-dodgers' and it was a losing battle as the vpn/dns services would just change their ip addresses, would actively work against hulu/netflix as they are taking food out of their mouths essentially (the dns/vpn's).

  • Got offered one free plus 200gb a month bonus data in a recontract offer email today, might take them up as then I can drop to the 200gb package and save money, the total 400gb a month is more than enough… Plus only option in our area is Telstra anyway.

No link in the email, just says to contact them by phone or chat to activate it.

    • +1

Be careful of the fine print.

I got the same offer today. It actually says you must upgrade to a higher plan for 24 months. I nearly missed it. They are very shifty.

Though, some abuse on the phone may get the deal you want.

      • My one says upgrade to a 'higher value plan' does not have to be a bigger plan, the ones they list in my email are all classed as higher value plans… I am on a 500gb Elite Liberty at the moment and have confirmed I can change to the cheaper 200gb+200gb free higher value plan in the email.

      • Some abuse? Or just some hard negotiating?

As an owner of a Telstra TV, I have to say that I'm very disappointed in it. Made by the developers of the Roku, same functionality but almost double in price.
I'd say just get a Roku and enjoy it

    • +1

Double the price? The roku 2 sells for ~$68 on amazon, which translates to ~99AUD, excluding shipping.

    • Its nowhere near double the price. Do the maths and currency conversion. Landing a Roku3/2 from the US to here (I did this a year ago) will cost you more than $99.

Sure, its not as functional as Telstra have locked away the Roku app store but its a great little unit once you side load PLEX on there.

Edit - Just checked out Ebay, cheapest Roku (2 or 3) posted to Aus is $155+

      • I purchased a Roku 3 for about $58 US (about $86) and I have to say, although I'd have much rather just BUILD a device for streaming it's a good premade system. Much better than the TelstraTV. But all new internet plans come with a TelstraTV as well so it's awesome for something that's free :)

  • I got one when we changed over to Telstra for Foxtel TV in a bundle with my cable modem. Not sure what I am going to use it with, as all my TV's are smart.
    Guess eBay is an option….

  • FYI - You don't need to be a Telstra customer and you certainly dont need to be on their broadband network. I'm with Internode and it works just fine for me.

I signed up using my Telstra ID that I have for my mobile without any issue. I've also heard from people that its possible to get a Telstra ID without a service and that is all you need to activate the box.

NOTE - Streaming Bigmond Movies and Presto will not be quota free unless you're on Bigpond.
