  • Hold on they just finished their last 20% off DVD & Blu-Ray sale less than 2 weeks ago, now there's another one.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/229066

    And the 20% off sale before that was just over 2 weeks earlier.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/227189

    Struth they must be really desperate for sales if they're having a 20% off DVD & Blu-Ray every 2 weeks.

      Dick Smith marketing department got bought by JBs?

      • Yep probably jumped ship over to the JB ship. First time i've ever seen JB having 20% off blu-ray roughly around every 2 weeks.

        • -3

          Seriously though, people still buy blu rays and DVDs?

        • @p1owz0r:

          I still buy the occasional Blu-Ray, particularly if I'm completing a set of movies etc.
          But I agree it's pretty rare now.

          @p1owz0r:

          I buy blu-ray. There's no way that internet streaming video beats the quality of blu-ray.

        • +1

          @p1owz0r: Blu Ray is still the best quality format available, especially for audio encoding.

        • +1

          @ChiefAJ:

          Yes for sure. I've got hundreds of blu-rays.

        • @p1owz0r: I occasionally buy a 3D Blu-ray when I can't find it to rent and it's been getting progressively harder :-(

        • +3

          @p1owz0r:
          Yes, absolutely. While I do have Netflix, I actually like owning movies. Plus the quality is better, and you get the behind the scenes stuff which I love.

          I don't like my movie collection being based on being subscribed to something…

        • @hollykryten:

          I have all 8 seasons of Dexter on blu-ray. I imported season 7 from America to find it was region locked. For whatever reason I decided to rewatch the entire series recently. Got up to season 7 and forgot I couldn't watch it (never ended up getting a region free player). So I watched it on Netflix. Finished it and Netflix started season 8 automatically. By the time I realised I was watching something I owned on blu-ray, I switched it over. The quality difference was AMAZING. I stream Netflix in 1080p but like you said, nothing beats the quality of the blu-ray.

          @Dagmar:

          Actually, if Australia had the infrastructure, we would easily be able to stream much better quality picture than what blue-ray currently offers. The way the NBN is going though, I dont see that happening anytime soon.

          @mavis30551: Thank the lieberals for that one

        • +2

          @p1owz0r: I love all the downvotes - like obviously there is still a market for optical media, but why are JB in a constant discount cycle? because demand has buckled significantly to the point where they have virtually no competitors, rentals have all but disappeared and they STILL have to discount aggressively to drive sales. It used to be one 20% discount per year.

        • +1

          @ChiefAJ: ^ you can really tell the difference between a proper bluray and one sourced not properly.

        • @mavis30551: Nope its not true regardless of speed streaming audio is the problem.

        • I buy BluRay, activate the ultraviolet code and throw disc in the bin

        • @p1owz0r: Good point. Blu-ray has become a niche format for enthusiasts like Laser discs were. I suspect DVDs are still around because they are just so cheap.

        • @jonathonsunshine: next time you decide to throw the disk in the bin pm me and I will buy it off you

        • +1

          @slimdavy5: was a joke, BluRay rulez

        • +1

          @p1owz0r:
          @ChiefAJ:
          It's pure profit. Disc costs $1 to make and they sell it for $7.

          And they are always on "sale" cause it makes people feel better about buying stuff they don't need.

          Two types of people buy movies at Jb, people who go in looking for that one particular movie they are after and probs don't even look at the cost and then people like me who go in when buy 2 get one free aligns with 20% off and they go in with $32 and hope for the best.

    when will there be 20% off games?

  • As I'm after a decent DAB+ radio for this Aus Day, pretty happy with the prices after 30% off.

  • Star wars complete saga for $79.20: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/movies-tv-shows/movies-tv-shows-on…

    Don't think there are any legal streaming options that would beat that.

    • Not buying Star Wars till they release the original remastered non special editions. Ie, the one they did in the mid 90s where they fixed up the existing special effects work or actually changing anything.

  • JOHN WICK BLURAY HERE I COMMMMMEEEEE

  • Do JB give a full refund for unwanted gifts? Or just offer store credit?
