  • They seem to be struggling to sell tickets this year. Feels like I've received way more promotional texts/emails this time around.

It certainly hasn't sold itself. That being said, I am going for the first time in years.

  • The idea of travelling to Byron and going to a festival is just too much for me nowdays. I just wish acts like D'angelo, Kamasi Washington, The Residents, The Decemberists, and Brian Wilson would play in Brisbane.

This years lineup is truly stacked - maybe their best ever. Shame not a single of the acts I wanted to see is playing here.

They all have conditions in their contracts that they can't play in Brisbane. My hot tip is to stay in the scenic relaxed surrounds of Brunswick Heads. Swim in the morning, get boozed at lunch and then take a 10 minute bus into the festival.

It works for Falls and Splendour as well.

      • Unfortunately, by the time my partner and I payed for accom, travel and tickets, we may as well have taken a small overseas trip. I understand they have these conditions, I just wish it wasn't there.

I was going to go this year, but wave after wave of sideshows without Brisbane has made me resentful towards the festival. It seems so well run, and fair to its acts etc. I just wish it wasn't "If you live in Brisbane and want to see xxxxxxx you must go to festival xxxxxx (unlike people in Sydney and Melbourne, who never even need to consider it).

I wish I could see these acts without giving up thousands of dollars and a full week of my life. If there were sideshows in Brisbane I could just go to a gig like normal, not have to plan leave from work, plus a few days recovery, accom, someone to feed pets, and miss out on any family/social time over the holiday weekend.

I'm rambling now. Long story short - I know I'M the one missing out, but so long as Bluesfest (and Splendour, and Falls, and any other Byron Festival) prohibits its acts from playing Brisbane, I will not considering going.

        • Completely agree. But I couldn't miss out on Peak Kendrick.

        • @ellduderino: I didn't think I could miss D'angelo or Kamasi Washington, but, here I am.

  • Saw bob Dylan there one year and thought it was a comedy routine

Bluesfest is a superb festival. It's just really well setup and organised and easy to spend all day there. I sound like an pensioner but am not, just not a 20yr old splendour kid who runs on Mother and vodka. It's nice to have seating!
Plus the bands are always great and seem to give the event the respect it deserves
