I bought a Lumia 640 from that $99 deal last Xmas and decided to try the 30 day trial for Groove music.

I was unaware of the 100GB free OneDrive storage as there was no mention of it. It wasn't until I was about to cancel my 30 day trial, I noticed the extra 100GB in my OneDrive account. Even after cancelling my subscription the 100GB of free storage remains.

  • Must have an active OneDrive account to get the 100GB Storage after Groove Music Subscription

  • If you don't want to be charged $11.99 every month, be sure to cancel your Groove Music subscription before the 30 day trial ends.

Plenty of space to upload your own music collection to OneDrive and play from any device that has Groove Music on it. Loving this feature. Enjoy!!

EDIT:

  • Your 100Gb bonus storage should show in your Onedrive after 48hrs. Be patient

  • Microsoft say in order to keep the 100Gb you will have to keep your Groove subscription active. Once you cancel your groove Sub, your 100Gb will also be gone. I've been lucky enough to keep mine after cancelling. You might also get lucky.

Nice, just pray that M$ won't change their mind and cut this down to 100mb after a while

  • +1

Does it say on your onedrive account storage page when the groove music 100gb expires?

    • +5

There doesn't seem to be an expiry on the the Groove Music Pass Subcription. I got a 100GB Bing bonus from a previous deal which shows an expiry, but the groove deal does not. Even after cancelling Groove I still have the 100GB.

      Here's a pic of my onedrive. http://i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy341/acemedusa/Onedrive_…

      • Cropped out of your picture to the right is a view button, this will take you the subscription info that this storage is linked with, my O365 10TB is shown the same way, and I doubt very much that I get to keep that when my subscription expires :)

        • When I click on the view details it shows that I'm not subscribed anymore yet I still have the storage.

        • @pufffdragon: Not sure? maybe they give you a grace period or the like?

        • +1

@spiritek: I was wondering that too. I will keep my fingers crossed and keep an eye on my account if they remove it. So far so good.

        • @pufffdragon: Out of curiosity how much storage does it say you? (it is listed up the top of this page)

        • @spiritek: Sorry I don't understand. Are you asking how much storage I have or how much storage you recieve?

        • @pufffdragon: Ahhh oops… miss one word and stops making sense :)
It should have read "how much storage does it say you have?"

        • @spiritek: Ha ha, no worries. I have a total of 330GB. That's including the Groove bonus.

It's not the same, but here's an answer about the Office/1TB.One.Drive offer:

What happens to the files I stored in OneDrive if my subscription expires?
If you cancel your subscription or if it expires, you can still access and download all your files by signing in to OneDrive directly using the Microsoft account you used to set up Office 365. You do lose the additional storage that comes with your subscription, so you must save your files elsewhere or buy more OneDrive storage if your OneDrive account exceeds the free storage quota.

It's not as cleanly worded as GoogleDrive, who say you can forever access those files, but never add.

    from the FAQ;

Will I get extra storage space to save my music to OneDrive?
If you are a Groove Music Pass subscriber, you'll get 100 GB of additional storage in OneDrive to save all the music you love.

I assume you get it only while you are a subscriber.

I've had my subscription cancelled for over a week now and I still have the 100GB. Hopefully it stays that way.

Oh great so music is now worth the cost of distribution and 100GB. Pretty high worth stuff. I bet the music artists prefer this to cocaine sniffing fatcats that paid advances for free to them.

    • MSOffice comes with 1TB & 60 Skype minutes… per user… for 5 users! (for a <$10/mth product)
So I get what you're saying, but it's a tiny value-add that's costing them nothing.

  • The link above for groove music link not working. Can someone put the correct link for iPhone or android please

Great deal for both Groove Music subscribers.

    • +3

      Whose the other one?

  • Do you have to provide CC detail to subscribe?

    • +1

I have my PayPal linked to my account so yes you would need some kind of credit card or PayPal account for this.
You do get a reminder email that the trial is coming to an end, but its up to you to cancel if you don't wished to be charged $11.99 after the trial ends.

      • Thanks, have subscribed and wait to see when the 100 GB will appear.

  • +1

Any idea how long it took for your 100gb to be added to your account?

    • +1

I'm not sure on that. I only noticed the 100gb when I was about to cancel the subscription.
Maybe chonghe can update you with that when his comes through.

  • You can place up to 55,000 songs in your OneDrive Music folder and stream that music on any mac, pc, Xbox, android, iOS, or Windows phone. Devices that don't have a native Groove app, like Macs, and non Windows 10 PCs can use the web player instead

I've done all I can but i just cant get this extra 100GB. I've joined Groove. It created a folder in my onedrive account but no extra GB. It hasnt yet uploaded a song to onedrive yet, I can download a song to my computer but no to one drive, I cant find the option to send the song to my onedrive accoutn. I was hoping this might activate the 100GB. Any ideas?

    • mine turned up a few days later. awesome, thanks

  • +1

OP, good luck with your 100gig.
If you're lucky, your one-drive will sync smoothly. For my case the sync speed is so low that it's impractical to use it. My 100GB that I got with the purchase of Samsung tab A, is 'unsullied'. In my opinion, it's better to check first before you go for the subscription.

    • Yeah uploading is slow. I've dragged my whole music collection into it so it just runs in the background when I have my PC on.
So far everything is synching perfectly. No issues as yet

I just signed up for the music pass trial and there's no 100GB showing up in OneDrive.

    • +7

Just spoke to Microsoft and they said to wait at least 24hrs before it shows in your Onedrive

      • +2

great job on following up with Microsoft, well done.

*** I just signed up for the music pass trial and there's no 100GB showing up in OneDrive.***

    • Unfortunately I don't know how long it takes to show up in your one drive. Maybe give it a day or two and see how.

I've just signed my wife up to see how it goes.

  • +1

I have a feeling there is a lag between one drive and everyone's subscription to groove.
After signing up it take some time before the 100gb is added and when unsubscribed it may also take some time before the 100gb is removed.

I signed up just in case it is permanent though :) currently have Dropbox box, google drive and one drive now.

  • I Just spoke with the Microsoft online chat and they say give it at least 24 Hrs before the 100gb shows in your OneDrive.

They also said in order keep the 100gb of storage you would need to continue your Groove subscription. There is no grace period and your storage will be cut once you are no longer subscribed.

I may have got lucky, as I still have my 100gb after cancelling almost a week ago. Worth a try I guess. It's free so nothing to lose.

    • I don't believe it's instant.

There would be a grace period (2 weeks give you time to subscribe again) or a check to see if you're subscribed. If not, boom, 100gb gone.

  • Yeah, Spiritek also mentioned about a grace period. I asked the bloke on Microsoft chat and he reckons there is no grace period at all. But they are never 100% so yeah, 100gb could be all gone in another week :(

If you buy a Seagate portable HDD, you get 200GB for 2 years.

  • +2

More than 24 hrs and I haven't got the storage. Anybody facing the same issue?

    • Ditto

    • +1

Yes me too. I signed up for another account yesterday. Did you guys download the groove app and sign into it? I only just did that today. I'm wondering if that's why it isn't showing yet.

      • You mean we could potentially be required to download the app to our phones?

      • Tried that. Downloaded the app, signed in, loaded music. Past 24hrs and still nothing

        • +1

UPDATE - Just checked and the 100GB is in my onedrive account now :) Cheers OP

        • +1

          @iamtezr:
Also have cancelled my subscription to avoid being charged after the trial. Subscription is still valid till 1st of March :)

  • +1

I'm trying it out to see if it makes any difference. I know it shouldn't, because the FAQ say you only have to subscribe to it to get the 100gb.

I will wait another 24hrs and see.

    • +2

Just checked and 100GB is in my drive. Cheers

  • +1

Great to hear guys! I'm glad it all went through.

  • +3

Yep mine also came through this morning.

  • Mine has come through. I haven't checked the desktop website to see if it has an expiry.

    • There's no expiry. I have cancelled my Groove subscription and it will expire on 1st March.

  • I guess it's safe to assume the storage will be removed when the trial period ends? When does/did your trial end OP?

    • +1

The guy I spoke to at Microsoft reckons the 100gb will be removed once your trial has ended. He also said anything you have uploaded will also be removed.

I have a 100gb Bing and enthusiast bonus from previous deals and when they expire I know you can keep what you manage to upload. So if I managed to get 50gb uploaded it will stay there. I just won't be able to add anymore to it. Although I'm told this doesnt apply to this deal, I'm really hoping it does.

In saying that though, I cancelled my groove sub about two weeks ago now and I still have my groove bonus. Some have mentioned there maybe a grace period, but only time will tell I guess.

      • Thank you. I'll wait this one out and see how it goes.

He also said anything you have uploaded will also be removed.

        This worries me.

  • Well canceled the subscription and noticed in the storage under OneDrive as :
Groove Music Pass Subscription 100 GB

So I have the feeling once my 30 days are up, the data storage will go with it.

  • My 100 GB has disappear after the Groove Music Pass expiration.

  • The second subscription I created for my wife disappeared a couple days after the trial ended.

I did get to keep what I uploaded though. Roughly about 20gb of music still in the OneDrive music folder.

  • Mine also disappeared after expiration

  • bloody hell MS took away free GB after expiration
