Can't comment on the GPU as I'm more of an AMD guy. Looking at staticice this is comfortably the cheapest (even cheaper with your favourite cashback site).

Seems to be well liked in the community.

Samsung S32E590C 31.5" Curved LED Monitor $468 Delivered @ Futu Online

Not the cheapest it's ever been (SE had it $10 cheaper a bit back) but a decent panel if you're into curved ones. Other stores retail for about $100 more (give or take). Remember to use your favourite cashback service to make the most of this.

  • Good for SLI since the cooler is blower type.

Does this come with Rise of the Tomb Raider?

    • Pretty sure it does come with rise of tomb raider just go the the gigabyte website already applied myself.

If I could get this, it would be so good for my love. My PC that is.

  • +1

Tempting indeed. I have a 4K monitor, so this would potentially help with fps, although the vram probably isn't sufficient for 4K gaming at higher quality settings I feel.

      I recently upgraded from a 2GB GTX770 to a 4GB GTX970.

I'd say roughly 30% increase in frames everywhere.

HUGE improvement for 4k gaming, though. Mostly from the extra memory, I'd imagine.

I still play most recent games at 1080p, but for older titles, it'll handle 4k nicely. Dirt Rally is really spectacular at 4k - and plays flawlessly on this card.

BTW I paid $509 for this about a month ago, so great deal I reckon!

      • Yes they are great cards all round. Cost/performance still hard to beat. See my comment below, I was actually talking about SLI but stupidly left that bit out as I was typing faster than my brain could handle :). I bought my first 970 about 12-18 months ago for the same price as the card on sale here. Depressing how the currency falling has raised costs… But good to see things back where they were, however fleetingly.

this is not for 4k gaming

if u want 4k go for r9 390 for similar price

      • I should probably have qualified my comment, as I was speaking from point of reference to the first commenter talking about SLI… I have a blower type GTX 970 already and a mATX motherboard, and my original intention was to go SLI for VR (I had an Oculus DK2 and could tell the 970 alone wasn't going to cut it for the CV1). I recently upgraded to a 40" 4K monitor which looks great and the 970 handles the games quite well in 1440p but does struggle with some of the newer ones in 4K. However due to the 3.5 + .5 gb issue that surfaced since I bought my 970 originally, it feels like it's probably not worth my while going SLI as it still has the same VRAM issue. On the other hand, the 980 Ti is sadly prohibitively expensive due to the end of the USD parity party quite some time back :(. Maybe I will check out the AMD range. Last time I had an AMD/ATI was around 2010 with a 5770 card which was great bang for bucks back then.

We're still not ready for 4k gaming yet. I'd wait another generation atleast. I have a 980gtx and wouldn't consider 4k at the stage.

      • Yeah that's a good call. I guess i bought my monitor to be future proofed, and was the only 40" monitor I could find at a reasonable price anyway (I am sitting about 2 metres away from it, not at a desk). I also use it for ps4 which is only going to be 1080p anyway. I'll keep gaming at 1440p on the PC and wait for the next gen of cards to see what Nvidia and AMD both have then.

  • Only 950 and 960 supports HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2.

    • +1

The GTX 970 is HDMI 2.0 compatible which is good enough for most people though.

      • +1

Emphased and meant both not either.

  • +3

Jeez, that's approaching the appropriate price for this card. Not quite itshappening.gif, but close.

  • Is this equivalent to R9 280x OC?

    • The gtx 960 is

    • this is a better card, on par with 290 and 290x

    • The GTX 970 has at least 20% more performance than the R9 280x, if you had to choose between the two go with the GTX 970 I currently own a R9 280x Gigabyte and there is instability, the temps are 40 on idle and amd drivers are outdated. The nvidia pascal gpu is coming so you might see a better price drop or it could remain the same.

      • +1

        3.5gb

        • Well I have 3gb for my gpu and the R9 380 is worse if your going with the 2gb version.

        • -2

@ghasl1: you are comparing a GTX970 againts a 280X which is slower that a 7970 and which costs 50% more.

You need to compare your 970 to the 390.

Funny, curved LEDs and GPUs hardly seem a valentines kind of thing.

    • Great valentine's day gift for 1 of the love in a gamer's life I reckon.

    • I'd love it if my girlfriend bought me either..

    • It is if your love is in 2nd life.

  • Hmm… I think I'll go a 980 for my next card, but that sure is tempting.

  • just scored one! plus $250 cash back from CBA! Niceeeee

    • How?

      • CBA had a promo for their new low-rate credit cards with $250 cashback last month.

  • +2

Sadly 970s only have 3.5Gb of good fast memory and 500mb of slow stuff =\

  • +1

Ordered the "G1" rather than the "OC" model.
It was $463 on the receipt. It's around $530 everywhere else.

  • Can anyone throw in their 2c on whether its worth upgrading to this from a R9 270x, gaming ultra bf4 at 1080?

I'm temped, but I'm also wishful that prices will drop with new cards…. or perhaps the Aussie dollar will recover (lol).

Someone talk me into doing one thing or another?

    • +1

Keep it, wait till the new cards come out this year, the current crop should drop a bit.

      • I like your optimism, and the fact that the solution is to wait and this agrees with my general laziness.

    • I don't think it's worth the upgrade, myself. It's still a good card, but the next gen stuff will be a much bigger leap forward compared to previous generations (HBM memory, 16nm process node), so I say wait and go for one of them instead.

  • +1

Great price for an Overclocked edition , thanks OP

    • No worries mate.

  • I've been putting off upgrading for far too long, pulled the trigger, thanks OP!

  • Still hasn't shipped and cash rewards has not credited anything
