    They're a rip off…

I checked them out a few weeks back, they were claiming about 30% off.

They were over $300 more expensive for my car and about $100 more expensive for house & contents even after the discounts were applied…

Shop around… Claiming 35% off does not make it a bargain…

They've also stopped giving you flybuys points for the premiums you pay…

I have my car done, They were $300 Cheaper then budget direct.
got home insurance and they were $200 cheaper than ANZ insurance

Just out of curiosity do you sit on ozbargain all day to post comments as soon as someone puts up a bargain? or you're the owner of this site?

    • They were by a long way the cheapest I found on home and contents. For car Bingle was cheaper, but they will always price beat if you show them a lower quote.

      • That's why i said 'shop around'.

I saved around $400 in total from what Coles would have charged.

    • Use their price beat guarantee. They will take an additional $50 off your current annual premium.

      • They will take an additional $50 off your current annual premium.

I saved $300 on the car.

        • Sorry what I meant was apply for the price beat guarantee with the cheaper insurance premium.

I saved $300 on the car

And Coles will reduce the premium by an additional $50.

They were the cheapest home&contents insurance i've found

  • They've also stopped giving you flybuys points for the premiums you pay…

    since when?

I found with car insurance they allowed me to do bullshit price matches. They were a little more expensive than another insurer so I popped in the others price and it auto-beat it. Then I thought "(profanity) it" and put it down by ~20% lower than the lowest competitor and it auto-beat that too.

and there's likely some T&C which should you make a claim, you will have to verify the competitors price they beat as part of the claim process to validate your claim… Could be fun ;)

brb, crashing my car to test insurance policy.

  • You should of course also challange any renewal they send through. I have ended up with cheaper premiums than the previous years with no changes to my policy through challenging anything they send through. Also yeh they will price match pretty much anything at the moment.

If you collect flybuys and shop coles - any insurance policy they will stiill give you bonus fly buys on your coles shopping monthly. But yeh no flybuys on their premium any more.

  • Could not find the coverage details of my current insurer (allianz), but seems that the price from Coles is lower

This may well be a bargain depending on your circumstances, however dealing with the customer service department of Coles Insurance is a nightmare, they are flat out awful, so I'd hate to deal with them if I were to need to make a claim.

dealing with the customer service department of Coles Insurance is a nightmare, they are flat out awful

They called me after I didn't follow up on my online quote.

When they called, they wanted me to provide my personal info to them to verify who I was.
This is after they called me…

So I laughed at them and hung up…

      • omg.. I've just +1 a post by JV! I expect the sky to fall and cats and dogs to move in together in the near future.. at least they can get cheap H&C insurance! :)

35% off is actually misleading - I put a random quote in to get a estimate home and contents insurance premium of $776 which included 15% off for being a flybuys member.

And then when I went back and put in the 35DISCOUNT code, the quote then went to $691 rather $593 if it was true 35% discount (ie 776 / 0.85 x 0.65)

    unless my maths is wrong

    • I think that you'll find in the fine print that the 35% includes the 15% flybuys discount. 'The discount available is a 5% discount in addition to the online (10%), flybuys (5%) and combined (15%) discount. '

      • Yes I probably could have worded my response better but I took off the 15% discount ($776 / 0.85) and then applied the 35% discount (x 0.65) in my calculations

and the number still doesn't match up and hence why I said it was misleading

I never expected the 15% and the 35% discounts to double up

  • They were cheap for me and since I paid with my Coles MasterCard now I'm claiming the price Protection amount.

  • Anyone know a cheap landlord insurance? Budgetdirect is cheap but knowing Ozbargainers you guys will probably find something cheaper

  • Even with the 20% discount, they're $300 more expensive than my current one (about 30%)… and that's without any "specific item" coverage. If I took out "specific items" it'd probably be $500 more expensive!!

Found the same thing for car insurance at least $150 more expensive, even with promo discounts.

    • Who is your current insurer?

    • +1

conversely, last month they were cheaper for me for my home+contents insurance by about the same $2-300

No insurer will be the cheapest for everyone, even those insurers with the same underwriters or part of the same large insurance group differ in their insurance premiums for different people/places

      • Coles Insurance, owned by IAG (who own NRMA, SGIO & SGIC and others).

  • Good deal

  • Coles was cheapest for me compared to RACV and my current one with Westpac. Woolworths is also cheap with $100 gift card offer but their product has less features and I don't trust the insurer. Coles insurance is actually from IAG. Yesterday I got the H&C insurance with them and after calling them and letting them know I got car insurance as well (again cheapest) they gave me an discount which was cheaper than the online quote. I likes the fact that I can tailor my options on the base cover like add accidental damage and portable good in Australia. Today I had web chat with them and told them of this offer. Their suggestion was to use the code and buy an new policy and then let them know and they cancelled the policy O bought yesterday and refunded the money (remember they have 30 day collying off period). Thanks for this deal mate.
