Does TELSTRA credit Me2U extend time

Hi,

I have 2 prepaid TELSTRA sims, both with some credit left.

If I transfer the balance from one to another, will it extend the expiry date?

Thanks

  • It depends on when your service was activated, and when the scheduled expiry of the recipient service is. According to this,

If the recipient service was activated prior to 4 November 2008, and is on a Pre-Paid offer that was available since before that date, then upon receiving a Credit Me2U transfer, the scheduled expiry of the service's recharge credit balance will be deferred by fourteen days.

If the recipient service was activated on or after 4 November 2008, and its recharge credit is scheduled to expire in fourteen days or sooner, then upon receiving a Credit Me2U transfer, the scheduled expiry date of the service's recharge credit balance will be set to fourteen days after the date of the transfer.

So, if the latter scenario applies to your prepaid, best to wait until the 14 day expiry window of the recipient service, before doing the Credit Me2U.

Each successful transfer extends the expiry date of all recharge credit on the recipient SIM to 14 days

    • Wonder which link is correct. The two info conflicts a bit.

Would be good to know from empirical evidence (I was referencing article only, not from personal experience). Anyone out there has done a Credit Me2u to a service that still has more than 14 days expiry, and observed the expiry being extended? For recently activated prepaid starter packs, of course.

      • No they don't - the Whirlpool link merely refers to the pre-2008 position, which the OzB wiki doesn't.

I have done many CMe2U transfers and it occurs exactly as described in the wiki. Recharge credit expiry is extended to 14 days. If greater than 14 days it remains unchanged.

        • Thanks for reply.

So, if the recipient service still has more than 14 days to expiry, the Credit Me2u will NOT extend the expiry? But if less than, then it will extend expiry.

Is this correct? Just want to get the correct picture :-)

@bluesky: Correct. The transfer extends the expiry date to 14 days, not by 14 days. If it's more than 14 days pre-transfer, nothing happens to the expiry date.

        • @magicmoose: Ah, I see now. Thanks very much.

        • @magicmoose:
Activated my sims late 2015 on long life, changed to simplicity,
Whenever I creditme2u 14 days is added. Not what I was expecting.

        • @SmithInOz:
Tried again today and it didn't extend. Sorry for the last post

  • I want to know about the bonus data, do you think if I top up $50 and my last remaining data balance will gets carry over to the new expiry date? Thx!

    • My understanding is that the bonus does not carry over, but the recharge credit will carry over.

This is also covered in the wiki: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/telstra_pre-paid_starter_p…

With the exception of Freedom Plus, only recharge credit will roll over. On Freedom Plus, data allowances and call credit will roll over once only. So Month 1's credit may be used in Month 1 or Month 2, but not Month 3.
