Exetel New ADSL1 Plans - Especially 8Meg Plans!

164

FP-D1 $95.00* 12 Months $65.00 6 GB + $0.50/GB thereafter No Limit = Unlimited
FP-D2 $95.00* 12 Months $75.00 30 GB + $0.50/GB thereafter No Limit = Unlimited

Need I say more? I know a lot of people might say this isn't deal worthy, but if you can't get ADSL2, these plans are terrific.

I am biased to these 8 Meg plans as anything slower isn't for me. But all the lesser speed plans are unlimited aswell.

NICE WORK EXETEL!

  • Cool. I have been waiting for them to bring in something under their $90 plan.

I wish I could get ADSL2+, as there are much much better deals out there - but I can't, so this is as good as it gets for me :)

    Thanks

  • they kind of fail to be honest..

like cool unlimited off peak, but only 6gb peak. for $65

I am all for posting internet plans on ozbargain, but only when they are a bargain.

    • The $75 plan is a good deal. I'm happy for you to point out something better out there that will match or beat 30gb 12pm - 12am, unlimmited 12am - 12pm at 8megs.

    • +1

The $75 plan is unbeaten by any other ISP. AAnet plans that were uploaded the other day are not avaliable to many exchanges. So if it's unbeaten by any other isp, how is it not a bargain?

      Just my 2 cents.

  • iinet Home5 ADSL1 40GB + 40GB 8000k/384k $79.95 shaped ( must use iinet for phone )

But if you download allot your better off with this Exatel plan +1

    • That plan comes close - but don't iiNet also count uploads? Agreed, if you download a lot, Exetel are better.

      • iinet doesn't count uploads with adsl or adsl2 broadband

      • -2

He was referring to AANET not iinet.
""other ISP. AAnet plans that were""<<<<<<

  • Fantastic deal, I'll definitely be churning over to them in the next few weeks. Thanks!

  • This looks like a great deal - I can't get ADSL2+ in my area (besides overpriced Telstra) so I will seriously consider moving to Exetel from Internode.

It will cost me an extra $5 per month but the speed and unlimited downloads 12am - 12pm make it a bargain

    • beware these plan are not trully "unlimited" for off-peak quota, they are generally let you download up to around 86GB then cap you to slower speed when you go over it.

    • It is not "unlimited"
Read the fine details as there will be a 'fair usage' policy stating how much you can actually use before they charge/cap your speed

  • Yeah, the peak download limits are terrible, but the off-peak are fantastic.

A better comparison than iiNet would be aanet: http://aanet.com.au/8000plans.html

    With 8000-Family $ 54.90/mo 50GB + Off-Peak

(Off peak takes half the amount you actually download from your peak quota, so if you only use off peak it's a 100GB limit or if you go half and half it's 25GB peak + 50GB off-peak)

    • although this is NOT available in all ADSL areas - aanet cherry picks the exchanges it makes this available

      • I did not know that. Thanks.

No capped speed = fail plan

    • +2

      how is that a fail?

some people don't want their internet speed to degrade after hitting a limit. And 50c for 1Gb seems very reasonable.

with the 6Gb plan, if you happen to go 6GB on top of that would only be $3!

why are people so closed minded? shrugs

      • +1

i agree jashjash, both plans are great especially the $75 one.

        • +1

i was thinking more along the lines of low to med usage families like mine, who won't use up 30Gb, but will at times go over 6Gb to around 10Gb.

I guess people don't understand that the reason capped-speed plans exist was because other companies were charging RIDICULOUS amounts for extra download.

Exetel doesn't. If you exceed the downloads, you actually get better value during that month!

If you used up 6Gb that works out to be $10.83 per Gb
If you went up to 12Gb it's then $5.66 per Gb!

          • @jashjash: and when you have VOIP, paying the 50c is cheap to keep that alive whereas capped plans kill the VOIP because its too slow to use.

          • +1

@jashjash: So true - dunno why people cant work it out.
Technically the 30gb $75 plan is only a 4gb bonus.
            eg. $65 plan + $10 to make up the $75 plan = 26gb.

So if you plan on using less than 26gb/month - the cheaper plan is probably for you.

oh and isnt being capped on an adsl1 plan just torture? (64kb)?
on adsl2 a lot of companies are offering 256k cap which is better but paying 50c just to have that worry alleviated is a big convenience.

No votes from me, as experienced highly inappropriate treatment, and very unprofessional customer service through them, especially through its manager.
Exetel is good until you don't have any problem, the day you have a tiny problem, look for another provider, as they will cut you off within 14- 30 days.

    • I have been a long time customer of Exetel. In fact, I signed my dad up as well.

We did have some problems (twice Telstra's fault), but they were fixed in a timely fashion and we are still connected with Exetel and have not had a problem since.

Could their service be improved?? Sure. Do they have some problems?? Of course, all businesses do. But making blatantly untrue remarks like that is not helpful to new customers thinking about joining Exetel.

      • I've heard the same story from lots of users, so I don't see how it is "blatantly untrue".

  • +2

Not going to give you a neg, But i give a BIG NEG to Exetel.

I have been a customer for over 5 years and have just had a problem and it has taken over a month for it to be addressed properly (still in the case as we speak)

I would NOT RECOMMEND Exetel to anyone

    • See im the opposite, been with them for over 3 years and never had any major problems.

I WOULD recommend them to people, its the few who have problems who present this so called negative image.

      • +1

        Exactly.
If you never have a problem with your connection its fine.
BUT… as soon as something goes wrong you are in trouble.
Like i said, i have been a customer for over 5 years and i was told to find another service providor if i was not happy with Exetel

  • How is the Exetel service generally? Do they give you free usenet access?

    • Exetel don't have a usenet feed and their general reputation for service is terrible, much like many of the small budget providers.

      • I have been wuth exetel for 12 months now and couldn't happier. Have logged a couple of enquiries and they get back to me within 30 minutes. Service has never gone down. Session time is always 2+ weeks

        • While it's rarely the worst rated in service, it's also rarely even near the highest rated:

          http://whirlpool.net.au/survey/2009/

I understand plenty of people do fine. But their reputation is middling at best. Terrible was probably a bit over the top though, so fair enough.

    • I have been with Exetel for about 4 years or more, reasonable stability and much faster speed recently. The only big down for me was when telstra unplug my line from the switch station for no reason, and everything down for 3 days including telephone. But that's not exetel's fault.

AND, if you use the lite agent code LITE1288 you will get $15 off your first month!

    • I have my Lite Agent code too, but don't think it's appropriate to post it on here as I will get $30 when my referee sign up with exetel. If I remember correctly, and if they didn't change that, my referee got $25 discount from their first bill.

    • Yes, if you must put your referral code on here at least own up to it!

join this isp at your own risk, abusive and dishonest customer service and legal jargon, should you ever need to call support for something they stuffed up - your deemed as a non profitable customer and as such you are required to discontinue as a customer and they send official letters asking you to find an alternative isp. Has had heaps of complaints to the TIO and Exetel is being closely watched and well known to the TIO and other regularatory authoritys for pushing the boundaries legally in many regards, please do your own research - in 98% of cases people have a very unpleasant experience with them (there is a minority whom find them excellent, but they usually are the ones whom constantly send praise to the company, which takes them off the hook and their service is safe!)

  • I'm with Exetel on a 1500k plan and get around 80-85GB/month offpeak. Will this new 8000k plan still have that same offpeak or more?

    • It's claiming completely unlimited, uncapped (so long as peak isn't capped) off-peak.

  • +3

was with exetel for 6 months. average speeds and terrible service.
speed on the 8mbit during peak was about 300kb. off peak was shaped even more. i could not get more then 250kb.

i have a 8mbit service with iinet on the same phone line with the same equipment. i'm getting about 500-600kb downloads at any time. free steam downloads through 3fl server as it is part of the free zone. iinet has excellent service and reliability.

i would not go back to exetel even if it was free

  • +1

Exetel just email advising that i either move to another plan of get cut off. Seems that my $29.95 a month is "not viable to sustain" and I will be cut off unless i go to a new plan of $49.95 per month.

Never going to recommend these clowns again!
