I was in KMart with my kids the other day and we noticed about half the licensed melamine dinner sets they have (bowl, plate and cup) were reduced on clearance.

I got my son a Spiderman set for $5, my daughter a Wiggles set for $5 and a My Little Pony set for $7.

All had been around $19.95 prior to markdown.

The cheapest sets they had were $2.

This isn't in their catalogue or on their web site. It's a clearance sale so once sold out they are gone. Your local store may have lots or none.

We also noticed they have a number of Easter egg sets with cutlery or plate/bowl/cup. Even at unreduced prices some of these were excellent value too as you got a melamine set plus an egg for ~$10.

      Hornsby. But from past experience I think you'll find most Kmarts are clearing particular melamine lines - they seem to have the one design for a year or so, then change it to another.

    Be careful to check underneath to see if they are safe to use in the microwave or dishwasher. Most cheap sets are not and are unsafe if you do.

      I have never seen a melamine set that can be used in the microwave.

      Most withstand the dishwasher OK but patterns fade with washing (in dishwasher or not).

      Agree though understand what you are buying…

        You see it a lot more overseas in Canada and the US the melamine that is dishwasher and microwave safe. I believe it is a different compound, but I'm no expert.
