Logitech G510s Gaming Keyboard $77 @ EB Games

490

I was after a cheapy keyboard and stumbled across this for $77 at EbGames (was $160, currently $178 at Harvey Norman, but cheapest on staticice is $99)

I'm yet to use it, so can't comment on it, but reviews suggest it's Okay…

They also had a heap of other keyboards + mice on special, nothing of this margin tho..
It looks to be Aus wide, so hopefully someone finds this useful :)

  • The keyboard is ok, my space-bar broke after about a year though

Good price! Need a new keyboard and it's so hard to find one with dedicated media keys.

Too bad none within 2hrs of me :(

Reminds me of the old logitechshop weekly deals, much cheaper quality version of keyboard everyone owned 10 years ago, the mighty g15.

    • +2

What ever happened to them anyway?

      • +2

The G15 v1 was a bit of a problem as it drew way too much power over USB.

I don't know how I'd live without the LCD on my G19.

I use LCDHost and have on the one screen time, weather (current temp and forecast pics), CPU usage both as a percentage and bar graphs and the same with memory. Network activity in a bar graph for up and down and total, volume. FPS, CPU Temp and % and GPU % usage and temp are all numbers but those I can also choose between to graph over time down the bottom so I can see what's happening such as sudden FPS drops. I got rid of email information and though that sounds like it would be crowded it's not.

        • I didn't even know this was a problem until my friend's PC started to BSOD. It wasn't even a cheap PC. Had great hardware at the time for gaming (minus the keyboard)

To see hardware faults in this age is worrying.

I use LCDHost and have on the one screen…

          Wow, how 1990's.

I have a second monitor, it's far better. That way, I can use a decent keyboard for typing.

        • @llama: "On the one screen I have" doesn't mean I only have one monitor and put all that information on it, when talking about the screen on a keyboard. I specified one as you can have as many as you feel like and switch between them with the press of a button. I have two monitors.

When gaming it takes a fraction of a second to see if something has started downloading, my CPU usage is spiking, my frames did drop as I suspected or anything else like that. When I had email included it took the same fraction of a second to see I had one and who it was from.

What do you do to diagnose problems or performance issues while gaming and how long does it take?

Most people don't see an immediate benefit to the extra screen and think it's pointless. I'm just letting them know how great it really is.

Well, derrr… I was also talking about the screen on the keyboard.

I specified one as you can have as many as you feel like and switch between them with the press of a button

Woo Hoo… but it's still totally 1990's to have a LCD screen on a keyboard.

When gaming it takes a fraction of a second to see if something has started downloading, my CPU usage is spiking, my frames did drop as I suspected or anything else like that

Yes, but why? You can tell ALL of those things simply by looking at your monitor.

What do you do to diagnose problems or performance issues while gaming and how long does it take?

Nothing, I prefer to spend money on decent hardware.

Most people don't see an immediate benefit to the extra screen and think it's pointless. I'm just letting them know how great it really is.

I am definitely in the "think it's pointless" group. I think it's silly to continually need to look down at a twee little low-res screen on a keyboard. Also, the fact that you need to look away to something with a different focal distance means that you are wasting time and tiring your eyes.

        • @Rutger:

My detailed reply is removed, since you just removed your whole post.

Anyway, I prefer to use a LCD screen rather than a tiny screen on a Keyboard. There are numerous software packages that can display CPU, Frame rates, etc in real time on either your primary or secondary monitor.

    • I was considering if I should replace my G15 with something like this, but I don't think I'll bother.
G15 has been going strong, especially with the LCD sir real app.

    • SO true. Also it has to be the v1 with the blue lights. V2 with the orange lights is just junk.

      • +1

My v2 orange is still going after nearly 7 years. Ive been looking out for a new one for a backup.

      • +1

yup. my g15 v1 has still be going since 9 years ago.

    • +1

My G15 still going strong…I mostly use the display to show my GPU card stats when tweaking new games.

    • Still using it. The problem is that I spilled some water on the screen part.

After I tried to let it dry, still a bad big waterspot mark. Tried to disambble it and accidently snapped the yellow eletronic thingy that connect the keyboard to the screen + its hard to reassemble the screen part. NEVER again

Good keyboard overall. Totally reccomend the used one

  • 4 stores nationwide bummer.

    • I can't seem to find any stores with stock. Which four did you see?

  • +4

    currently $178 at Harvey Norman

dafuq? You could buy a decent mechanical KB for that.

  • I've had the keyboard for a couple of years now and for this price I highly recommend it.

Bit of a long shot, but does anyone know if there is an ergonomic (the curved type) gaming keyboard like this?

  • Love my G15 and G510. Might get this as an additional backup for what is a 9 and 7 year old (and working great still) set of keyboards.

  • +1

I have a G15 and G510. Love both of them and still using both at home.

Last year I bought a G510s for work. Hated it within the first minute and exchanged it on the same day for a mechanical keyboard. The G510s is very mushy compared to its predecessors.

  • Running a Corsair Gaming K70 RGB currently
but it was the G15 that got me started
Still works well 10 years later.. plug it in everynow and then for laptops

    4$ more
    TKL format
Genuine Cherry Mx switches (not rubber dome)
    Minimalistic Look

    • Typing this on the Kogan right now. It's excellent. Also, you can easily remove the plastic cover, thereby eliminating the Kogan logo.

      • +1

you can also use rubbing acetone to remove the logo as well :)

  • I bought a G510 for $25 during Dick Smith's clearance. :D

    • +3

You are three others across Australia.

  • I have a G710+ love it!

    • I do also.

Quite bulky but gets the job done. I 'game' a reasonable amount so it is beneficial in this regard.

      • But your keys are broken and will be starting to fall off soon.

        • Had for over a year. No issues from my end. Normally replace my keyboard after about 12 months anyway.

Perhaps this is more about how you treat your keyboard? Do you like to hit people over the head with it? :P

        • @Rocket6: Pop any of your keys off. In particular Ctrl Alt. Hold them to some light and you will see lots of fractures. The right Alt, which is hardly used was the first to come off on mine. It is a design fault that Logitech admit to. That is, installing the keycaps, breaks them. They also admit they are in breach of various trade practices laws. So if you push it they will offer to replace the keyboard. In my case they are sending me a G910 as there is no point sending me another G710 which still has the design fault. The only catch is I have to cut the G710 cable near the keyboard and send them a photo. I guess so I don't end up with a free broken keyboard.

The keycaps are a slightly different size to standard so generic third part caps are no good. I think there was one seller with caps specifically for the G710. In the USA last year, they finally started sending new caps as spare parts rather than whole keyboards. I have not researched much further, but it was hoped the new keys were different and may fix the issue. The spare part key caps are only available in the USA. I suspect the G910 will be an issue for typing, but I will give it a go, and if no good, I am still entitled to a refund of the original G710. Check it out, it is all over the web.

You query how I treat my keyboard, yet find it normal to replace them every year? The keyboard that the G710 replaced, was an old used NEC microswitched I have been using since pre 1995. My last motherboard upgrade was a bit of a rush and the board I ended up purchasing did not have a PS2 port which I forgot to check for. Hence the need for a new keyboard.

        • @Major Mess: Thanks for your reply.

I am a little spoilt in terms of my PC - I don't break my keyboard, just merely like having a new fresh keyboard every year or so. In saying that, I have had this for about 18 months.

I am interested to read about the issues RE keys. Will suss it out. Whilst I am not particularly worried about mine, I normally stick to the Logitech brand.

  • Looks like original orange G15

    • Still have the original v1 in my garage still a good solid keyboard…. stored alongside my n52 gamepads…

  • hmm i need a new keyboard (using cheap $20 microsft one for years but is now starting to die a little for gaming..). do not really like this specific logitech one though… need to find an alternative!

  • great keyboard if you make the most of the macro (G ) keys , all the newer ones have a row or two less. 18 programmable keys x 3 profiles 54 different keys extra … my current only has 9x3 27

I got a new keyboard so took my old G510 to work , have shortcuts setup for various tasks sure it quickens up a lot and frees up time for some internet browsing :-) no issues at all… new keyboard is mechanical and still not used to typing on it.

  • So has anyone found a place which has it in stock?

  • Not a deal, at this price it must atleast be a g19s. Otherwise get a mechanical.
