Nagomi visits involve enjoying a home prepared meal in a local's home. The usual price is 3,500 yen.

Eat or cook in a local Japanese home at locations all over Japan. I had a lovely sushi dinner in Sapporo last year and it was great to chat with my hosts as, quite coincidentally, we have the same job.

That's a surprisingly reasonable price for such a thing! even without the discount.

  • What an excellent idea. Could be the next big thing, like Uber.

  • Damn, I'm in Japan now. That looks like fun, but first time available is 1st March.

    • Door knock for a cheap meal?

Nah, just scavenge from the bins outside classy restaurants.

        • You Risto, are a true Ozbargainer. (Tilts hat to you)

  • How was the experience? Considered doing this on our last visit as it seems to be a great way to be able to meet and speak with some locals.

It was really easy to arrange and such a great experience! I love these non-touristy tourist experiences- like selling yams in Taipei or eating dinner in a family home.

The husband claimed to have poor English, but we were able to chat about different things, including what it's like being a teacher in Japan compared to Aus.

I always thought Sukiya was greasy gross crap until I went to one. Damn tasty gyudon for the price, and not that greasy after all :)

        i like Matsuya better though!

  • Is this like one of those rent-a-hoisewife things that started in japan some time ago?
I remember reading about it where it was for people who really miss this house wife experience of welcoming home after work and a good honest home cooked meal.

Is there a guarantee that they are a good cook or you roll the dice and hope they don't suck? =P

IMO there can be much more to a great meal than just the food quality.

      • Yeah but good food is the bare minimum.

  • Would children be accepted?

No, you have to pay with money.

  • I wonder if i can join this group like joining uber. Rock around to my neighbours house and make them a meat pie or sausage roll. I'm in Nagasaki and an apple pie is the best omiage to give, especially with the awesome apples they have here

Its sounds more like airbnb for meals.

  • Going back to Japan in April. This sounds like a fun experience to try.

  • HMmm going in march-april'ish, interesting concept. hvae to leave this tab open to 'explore' what this is next time.

THen again you could probablhy book an air bnb and try and ask them to buy and cook something home made for you if they pay more?

Be interesting if hosts started offering these services to compliment their air bnb's actually :)
